In winter, the land tells the truth. With leaves down and long views reopened, the underlying structure of Wyelea becomes clear, its contours, hedgerows, and the quiet logic that guides how the place is taking shape.

This season of clarity arrives alongside a moment of pause and gathering. As the year draws to a close and families turn inward for the holidays, work on site continues with purpose. Major infrastructure is in place, construction is advancing, and landscape efforts are moving from planning into execution. The work underway now is defining how homes will belong to the land, how shared spaces will function, and how Wyelea will feel once it is fully lived in.

In this winter edition of The Current, we share updated schedules and development progress as several key components move forward. We also turn our attention to the landscape itself, highlighting a few specific areas that reveal how topography, seasonality, and restraint shape the placement of homes and the experience of daily life at Wyelea, both now, and for many winters to come.

Phase One infrastructure and paving are now complete, marking a significant step forward in the readiness of the first homesites. A new stormwater pond has also been completed, supporting Wyelea’s commitment to sustainable land stewardship.

The landscape buffer behind Homesites 8, 9, and 10 has been installed, with additional plantings scheduled for this winter along Kelmscott Road—west of the main entrance and east of The Post.

Landscape and hardscape installation is planned for the first quarter of 2026. This phase will include irrigation, lighting, trees, shrubs, mulch, sod, cobblestones, and stone walls, along with the installation of permanent signage—bringing layered character and definition to Wyelea’s arrival experience.

Progress at The Commons is steady. Our contractor has completed grading and infrastructure and installed the shot rock building pads. The lake excavation is complete. General contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie, who is also building new amenities at Troubadour, Sweetens Cove, and Bounty Club, will build The Commons.

We expect them to begin construction this winter pending weather and permitting.

Construction of Wyelea’s gatehouse and mailroom, The Post, is underway with completion anticipated in early Summer. The Post will be the home of the Wyelea “greeter” and house our security infrastructure, as well as mailboxes for residents. As part of construction of The Post, areas of cobblestone road surface and cobblestone curb will be installed in addition to extensive landscaping and stone walls.

Across Wyelea, the landscape is shaped through a series of distinct spaces, each with its own character, rhythm, and role in daily life. Some are open and pastoral, others quieter and more enclosed, but all are designed to work with the land rather than against it.

The following areas offer a closer look at a few of these landscapes. Together, they illustrate how paths, plantings, and open ground help define how homes sit within the property, how neighbors connect, and how the land changes with the seasons. These spaces are not destinations alone, but part of the everyday experience of living at Wyelea.

THE POST

The experience of arriving at Wyelea begins not with architecture, but with the land. The Post is approached through pasture, meadow, and hedgerow, an intentional sequence that introduces the character of the place before any building comes into view.

Plantings here are allowed to feel natural and evolving, embracing seasonal change and texture. Stone walls, grasses, and native species establish a sense of permanence rooted in the agrarian history of the region. When the gatehouse finally appears, it feels embedded within this landscape rather than set apart from it.

This arrival sets the tone for everything that follows. It is a quiet first lesson in how Wyelea is shaped, where architecture emerges from the land, and the landscape remains the constant that ties the community together.

THE GREEN

The Green is one of Wyelea’s most legible landscapes, an open, pastoral space shaped by proportion, long views, and restraint. The park acts as a shared clearing within the land, allowing the surrounding homes to orient themselves calmly and confidently.

Subtle changes in grade, framed sightlines, and specimen trees give the space structure without formality. The lawn is generous, creating a sense of openness that feels grounded rather than exposed. Homes nearby are positioned to look across The Green or approach it gradually, reinforcing a relationship that feels settled from the outset.

As the landscape matures, The Green will become a familiar presence in daily life, a place to pass alongside, look toward, or gather near, quietly anchoring the neighborhood and setting the tone for how architecture belongs within the land.

Orchard Park and Hazel Glade introduce a softer, more intimate rhythm to Wyelea’s landscape. These areas are defined less by openness and more by transition, where meadow meets tree line, and where shared space gently overlaps with the private realm of nearby homes.

The orchard establishes a seasonal cadence that will become part of everyday life. Blossoms, fruiting branches, falling leaves, and winter structure mark the passage of time, grounding the landscape in change rather than permanence. Hazel Glade extends this experience through shaded clearings and layered planting, offering moments of pause and enclosure within the broader pastoral setting.

Together, these landscapes create a natural buffer between homes and open land. Instead of hard boundaries, planting and landform provide privacy, softness, and continuity, allowing residents to feel both sheltered and connected to the larger landscape.
