Individual Success Fencing Congratulations to Bethan Metcalfe Y10 N8 who on Sunday 15 October competed in the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire County Fencing Union age group Foil Championships. Bethan fenced in the U16 category and won a bronze medal!

Gymnastics Congratulations to Lara Thornton Y9 A7 who has qualified for the British Championships!

Only 15 out of 72 girls qualified, Lara placed 5th overall, achieving silver on the bars and bronze on the beam. The Championships will be held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool in the spring. Well done Lara, and the best of luck for the Championships!

Hockey Lucy Young Y12 P6 has been selected by her Hockey Performance Centre for a place on the AASE Programme 2017/18. This programme is led and delivered by England Hockey in partnership with Loughborough College, it provides a structured training and development route for high potential hockey players. Lucy will attend four camps throughout the year and are held at Lillishall National Sports Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity for Lucy and we wish her the very best of luck!

Team Success Cross Country Wycombe Phoenix Harriers – Cross Country Races for Schools

Saturday 7 October was a fantastic day for running, especially if you are a WHS girl! Emily Gillespie Y9 N5 started us off in the U15 race, covering the mileage as part of her training with WHS coaches Alan Hewson and Helen Hinde from Bucks Speed Demons. She secured a commendable 7th place finish with a smile! We couldn't be more proud of her WPH debut for WHS! The U13 Team secured 3rd place overall with top performances from Keshni Manek Y8 B6 in 4th, Alisha Ramzan Y8 B7 in 14th and Bessie Chalmers in 15th. Anouska Modray-Lane Y7 C5, Sophie Falconer Y7 N8 and Mia Walden Y7 N9 finished 19th, 20th and 21st places respectively and Maya Dunkin Y8 P2 crossed the line with the biggest smile of the day in 24th. A lovely, sunny race with commendable early season performances; well done to all.

ESAA Cross Country Cup

On Wednesday 7 October the WHS cross country team travelled back to hosts The Cottesloe School in Wing for the first round of this year’s country cup. A great day was had by all in good conditions . Well done to all involved!

Football

The U13 football team had their first game against Bohunt School in Wokingham in the second round of the ESFA. They missed out on a place in the third round having lost 4-1. The WHS girls put in an exceptional performance against the Bohunt who had a record of 6 unbeaten matches to their name! WHS’s goal was the first Bohunt have conceded all season! We are very much looking forward to starting the league. Well done girls!

The U14 team also lost in the second round of the ESFA against St Crispins School in Wokingham. It was a tough game, finishing with 3-3, the teams had to battle it out in extra time! St Crispins put in two late goals taking the final score to 5-3. What an exciting match, well done!

The U15 team are currently taking part in the football district league. So far they have played in four matches with a record of; 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Watch this space!

Cross country club: Wednesday lunchtimes for everyone! Supported by coaches Alan Hewson and Helen Hinde from Bucks Speed Demons.

Netball It has been a fantastic start to the netball season for the Year 7 teams! On Wednesday 20 September the A and B teams competed in the seeding rally at great Marlow School. Out of 9 teams the A team placed 2nd and the B team placed 5th overall. The teams are now taking part in the district league and both the Year 7 and Year Swimming 8 teams are unbeaten! Keep up the good work League Results girls!

On Wednesday 11 October the round of the Buckinghamshire Schools Swimming League took place at Wycombe Abbey. The WHS team U16 Hockey On Tuesday 17 October the U16 team took part in produced some excellent results, the Junior team placed 3rd, the Inter tem placed 4th with Megan the National Schools County Finals at Stowe Daley setting league records in the 100m IM and School. The team played some exceptional 50m Breaststroke, and the Senior team did not hockey against strong opposition. In their first match against BHS they ran out a comfortable 4-0 disappoint placing 1st overall! League records win, their second match against RLS proved to be were set by Lucy Wheeler Y12 N4 in 100m IM and more of a challenge as the team were down 2-0 at 50m Butterfly and India Crawshaw Y12 A8 in the half time, however turned it around in the second 50m Breaststroke. Well done to all of the swimmers, a great start to the year! The second half to win 4-3! The team showed their strength throughout the final game against Stowe and drew league round takes place on Wednesday 15 2-2. Overall this meant that on goal difference the November.

U16 team finished top of the table and have qualified for the National Schools Regional Finals.

Congratulations to the whole team, a fantastic achievement and credit to their talents.

ESSA East and South East Regional Results

Shortly after the team’s first match, on Thursday 5 October, the WHS Squash Team played against Tring School, winning with a very impressive On Friday 13 October the WHS Junior, Inter and victory! The team left the school site feeling Senior swimming teams competed in the ESSA determined and ready to play their best. Arriving in East and South East Regional Rounds. plenty of time the girls began warming up against The junior team just missed out on podium finishes each other to prepare for the tough matches ahead of them. First on court was Lily Cassap, achieving 4th place in both the Freestyle and Medley Relay, being in such a competitive region who won with a great score of 3-0. Followed by we hope this is enough to send them through the Emily Akehurst Y10 B9, securing another straight forward 3-0. With Kassia Goosen Y9 A2, Emma National Finals in November, the full list of qualifying teams will be published later this week. Bassett Y9 A4 and Rachel Brown Y10 T1 to follow all winning with a 3-0 outcome.

The inter team placed 27th in the Freestyle relay and 24th in the Medley relay, all the girls swam exceptionally against some tough competition!

The senior team put in an outstanding performance! They took silver in the Medley relay and gold in the Freestyle relay! The senior team have qualified for the National Championships on Saturday 8 November held at the London Aquatic Centre. Well done girls!

Play Your Part Update The ‘Play Your Part’ for Sport Campaign was launched in September 2015 to raise funds for an all-weather pitch with floodlights. The £725k cost for the pitch has come from donations to the Future Fund, fundraising events, corporate sponsorship and a pledge from the Garfield Weston Foundation. We are extremely excited and patiently waiting to get onto our brand new allweather pitch. Weather permitting, we hope to have the our pitch available in January 2018. U15 Squash The U15 squash team played their first match against Benenden at the start of the year.

Unfortunately WHS narrowly missed out on winning with an overall score of 8-10, but the girls went down with a fight! Three team members ahd never played in a competitive match and performed exceptionally! Lilly Cassap Y9 N6, was awarded with player of the match for showing significant improvement throughout her game.
