Visiting Wycombe Abbey

Wycombe Abbey is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of pupils, staff and all visitors.

We welcome visitors to Wycombe Abbey as an essential part of the life and work of the School It is the School’s responsibility to ensure that the safety and welfare of the pupils is not compromised at any time, therefore we ask that all visitors follow the guidelines in this booklet You will be accompanied throughout your visit to the School.

Identification

Please bring some form of photo ID with you as you will be asked to verify your identity upon arrival On arrival at the main entrance to Wycombe Abbey, you will be asked to sign in, either at the Custodians’ Lodge or Main Reception. You will be issued with an ID badge which should be worn visibly whilst on the School site Before you leave, please return to the same location to sign out

Driving on Site

Please observe the speed limit whilst driving on the School site, which is a maximum 20mph, with 5/10mph in certain areas. Please be aware that pedestrians and wildlife have the right of way, and be patient with groups of people Please only park in the marked parking areas or where directed by the Custodians.

Accessibility

Please advise your Wycombe Abbey host in advance of your visit of any accessibility needs.

Toilets

Toilets are designated for either adult or pupil use. Those set aside for adult use are clearly indicated as being for staff and/or visitors We ask that you only use these facilities

Smoking

Pupils are acutely aware of the behaviour of adults on the School site. We ask you to show consideration by not smoking or vaping, especially whilst in view of pupils. There are three designated smoking areas, one at the Estates Office, one in the shelter in the main car park, and one at Daws Hill, which are not visible to pupils.

Photography - Not allowed

A large number of people live on-site at Wycombe Abbey, both in term-time and during the holidays Some areas and buildings are private spaces, so we request that you do not take any photographs unless permission has been sought. Please be sensitive to people’s privacy.

Health and Safety

We take Health and Safety very seriously In the unlikely event that you have an accident whilst on site, however minor, please ensure it is reported to your School contact at the time If you have any concerns about Health and Safety, or you see something that requires remedial action, please contact our Health and Safety representative on 07515063843 The School is subject to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.

Fire

If you hear a fire alarm, please vacate the building you are in immediately and make your way to the muster point - your host will direct you Do not re-enter the building until told it is safe so to do by a member of staff.

First Aid - Medical

In the first instance, please telephone the Custodians on 01494 895580.

Emergency Arrangements eg Lockdown

In the event of the need to go into a lockdown, a tannoy announcement will be made. Your host will direct you where to go and stay with you

Security

A 24-hour security patrol and CCTV operates around the School site Please contact the Custodians on 01494 895580 with any security matters. Vehicles and personal possessions are left on-site at the owner ’ s risk

Contractors

Please appreciate that schools have to work under strict regulations concerning contractors You will be asked to sign in and acknowledge all health and safety arrangements. If you are a contractor working under a supervision arrangement this will be explained to you at the time of agreeing the work Please adhere carefully to the supervision arrangements

Safeguarding and Child Protection

If you have concerns about anything you see or hear regarding pupil safety, the way adults treat pupils or the way pupils treat each other please contact a member of the Safeguarding Team by emailing dsl@wycombeabbey com

Harassment

The School operates a zero-tolerance approach to harassment, sexual harassment and bullying. Any behaviour which may be construed as such will be handled in line with the School’s Anti-Harassment and Anti-Bullying policy and may result in disengagement and/or removal from site.

Many Sat Nav systems will incorrectly direct visitors to the Marlow Hill gate It is recommended that visitors search using: Abbey Way, HP11.

The Main Entrance to the School is on Frances Dove Way All visitors and deliveries should be signposted to this entrance. Staff may use other entry points but must observe the School’s policy on entry using these gates

Driving into the School site:

Please observe the directional road signs and ensure you enter the main gate by turning left from Frances Dove Way. Please do not cross the double white lines in the centre of the road.

Exiting the School site:

Please only turn left out of the main gates and do not attempt to turn right.
