MICHEALS’ MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS September 2007 PROGRESS WITH RECRUITS We would like you to meet Maria del Mar Perez. Maria is our first Wycliffe member from Puerto Rico’s new recruitment efforts. Maria recently attended Wycliffe’s Training Camp in Orlando, Florida where we caught up with her. We are praying that Maria will be just the first of many new members from Puerto Rico. Maria will be serving as an administrative assistant in the Wycliffe Americas office in Costa Rica. After a few years in Costa Rica, she hopes to return to the USA and assist us with Hispanic recruitment!

ISAAC HEADS TO GERMANY TO SERVE WITH WYCLIFFE! Many of you know that our daughter Maria, son-inlaw Josh and our two grandsons (Ryan & Kody) are serving with Wycliffe in the Kandern, Germany office which assists our teams working from the West Eurasia office. Some of you know that our son Isaac recently heard about an opening at the Black Forest Academy there which supports the educational needs of not only Wycliffe children whose parents are working in this area of the world, but also children from other missions. A few months ago Isaac joined Wycliffe and has been raising his support to be a high school teacher there. In late August he received enough funds to leave the USA and so he is currently teaching AP European History and Worldview classes. He intends to stay there for several years, although he will need to raise some additional funds to continue to teach at the school following his first year.

Chuck & Maria at Training Camp

In August 2004 Barb and I hosted the Total It Up (TIU) program in West Chicago. Today two of these participants are now working with Wycliffe and one more is moving toward membership.

We want to thank all of you for your support and prayers for Isaac. Many of you support our work and now also support our children’s work in Bible translation. We give praise to the Lord for our children and for your generous support that keeps our family working toward completing the Bible translation task. The task is not yet complete, but progress continues to be made. So far this fiscal year, our recruitment efforts are up 13% over last year and we now have had 184 new people join Wycliffe just this year!!! We give thanks to the Lord!!!

Total It Ups Are Now Paying Membership Dividends!

In August 2004 Sandra Claypool attended the TIU we hosted in Chicago. In Oct October 2005 we reported orted to to you that she began her herer linguistic/translation studies and was in the process of applying applying for membership ship with with Wycliffe. In June 2007 June 2007 we we received a note from her telling us that her studies were complete and that she recently left for Northeast Africa to begin her anthropology studies in anticipation of assisting others in Bible translation projects. Meanwhile, Julie Barr who also attended that same TIU recently reported to us that she returned from her sociolinguistic survey work in northeastern Cambodia where she studied the Kachok language to determine their need for the Scriptures.

www.thetruthproject.org The Truth Project: This FOTF partnership could help us in recruiting since this program is designed to combat the growing problem of a lack of a Biblical worldview among Christians in the USA. According to the pollster George Barna, only 9% of people who say they are born again hold to a Biblical worldview. This lack of a Biblical worldview in the church, combined with postmodernism which attacks the concept of Truth and the importance of God’s Word, means we have a shrinking pool from which to recruit new members. Pray that we will have wisdom as we pursue this partnership with FOTF. Pray we will also know how to promote this program with new recruits.

The Kachok people do not have a Bible in their language, although other language communities around them do. However, many cannot read or understand these other languages. The Kachok people are anxious to received God’s Word in their own language. Pray that Bible translators can be found to meet this need!

The Traveling Team: We recently entered into a partnership with The Traveling Team. The Traveling Team is a group of committed Christians who promote missions. Our partnership will now mean they will also be promoting Bible translation on college campuses. Our partnership with their Team # 5 will take them to the following campuses this fall: Weber State Univ., Univ. of Utah, Idaho State Univ., Boise State Univ., Univ. of Idaho, Utah State Univ., Central Washington Univ., Eastern Washington Univ., Washington State Univ., Univ. of Washington, Univ. of Oregon, Western Oregon Univ., Oregon State Univ. and the Univ. of Nevada-Reno.

ORLANDO UPDATE This year, Chuck’s Recruitment Ministries department is looking to build partnerships with other Christian organizations. We know that with our current recruitment team we will not be able to meet sufficient numbers of qualified people to meet our 7000 new member recruitment goal. Therefore, we need others agencies to help introduce our work to more people and so we are praying that we enter into the right partnerships. In pursuit of new partnerships, we recently visited the headquarters of Focus On The Family (FOTF) in Colorado Springs, CO to investigate a possible Wycliffe partnership with their program, The Truth Project.

We have not been able to get on these campuses before so please pray that these new efforts will put us in contact with many new potential recruits. OUR ADDRESS
