MICHEALS MEMOIRS October 2005 PAPUA NEW GUINEA TO RECEIVE NEW WORKERS! RECRUITMENT UPDATE

While it has been over five years since we came back from Papua New Guinea (PNG) we still stay very connected to Wycliffe’s work going on there. Since it has been more than five years you may also wonder how what we now do with Wycliffe impacts the Bible translation work going on in PNG. In this newsletter we hope to show how your partnership with us is still making on impact around the world and especially PNG. About four years ago, we had an opportunity to meet Johanna. She had recently graduated from a college in Minnesota, Magna Cum Laude. We invited her to attend Trans Scan (a one day Bible translation workshop) in

Chicago, IL. At that course she spoke with us about her interest in Bible translation. We shared with her our work in Papua New Guinea and soon after attending our translation recruiting course she decided to join Wycliffe. Since that time, Johanna attended our Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (GIAL) school in Dallas, TX and studied linguistics and Bible translation. While at GIAL she met CJ who was also interested in service with Wycliffe and soon the two were married.

ORLANDO UPDATE Today, God has given Chuck the opportunity to not only effect the lives of a handful of students, but in his role as Vice President of Mobilization for Wycliffe USA he now has the opportunity to provide leadership to hundreds of Wycliffe recruiters in the States. His job is to help set vision and direction for our U.S.A. recruitment work. His travels have taken him recently to Lancaster, PA, Albuquerque, NM and Waxhaw, NC to meet with recruitment team members and his future travels this fall will bring him to Okalahoma, California and Pennsylvania.

C.J. CJ is a skilled warehouse and construction person and Johanna is a skilled linguist/translator. So, they headed to our JAARS Center in Waxhaw, NC for a period of two years where CJ kept up the JAARS facility and Joanne worked as an editor of a translation publication. Recently we received news that they are needed in these areas in Papua New Guinea! They wrote us to say thanks for informing and challenging them to consider Bible translation work.

Barb is now serving part time in Mobilization with Wycliffe working with contacts from a new web portal that people age 20 – 40 are beginning to use to access opportunities for service with Wycliffe. The Mission Next web site is being developed in cooperation with the Finishers mission agency. Mission Next is being developed so that Christians can fill out a personal profile online and then a computer match will be made based on profiles that Wycliffe has developed for our 2900 current job openings. Chuck’s Mobilization department is providing leadership in the development of this site and Barb will be primary point of contact for people filling out the profile.
