Our First Prayer Card 1985

IIt is twenty years ago this coming January that we joined Wycliffe and left for Papua New Guinea (PNG) to serve in the task of Bible translation. In this and future issues of our Micheals’ Memoirs we will highlight some of our past work.

However, we first want to update you on the mobilization work we currently are doing in the Midwest.

In the past three months, we have participated in mission conferences at Moody Bible Institute (IL), Trinity Evangelical Divinity Seminary (IL), Dordt College (IA), as well as visiting Wheaton College (IL), Grace University (NE) and Northwestern College (IA).

We made or helped conduct over 30 classroom presentations.

As a result of these efforts, we are now working with over 50 new college students who have expressed an

interest in our work in some way. Some want to be administrators, pilots, teachers, literacy workers or Bible translators.

year 2025, to see Bible translation in progress, through partnership, in every language group that it."" needs it.

To see this vision completed Wycliffe will need more than 4000 new workers in the next 20 years.

We also continue to work on the pilot project that the Vice President of Mobilization asked the Wycliffe North Central Mobilization team to work on. Chuck was asked to head up the pilot project. The pilot project is designed to help Wycliffe find ways to have more people join us in this work, help them move ahead quicker and have an even better experience in the process.

Our pilot O project team met in Orlando and Chicago recently to work out the details of future recruitment work in our region in order to recruit some of the needed 4000 workers.

We see prayer as our biggest resource and so have made prayer an essential part of all our meetings. Please pray with us for these 4000 workers and for this pilot project!

Mobilizat ion and Personal Pr ayer Needs $

Pray for two more couples to join us in our mobilization and recruiting work. Pray for needed mobilization workers in Omaha, NE and Indianapolis, IN. Pray that God would supply the 250 new members needed next year and for the 4000 workers needed in the next 20 years.

Pray for Tom and Judy Coombs as they have now started mobilization work as Area Coordinators for Eastern Michigan. Pray for good contacts with individuals and churches in that area.

•

Pray for Chuck’s recent medical needs. Several months ago he had hernia surgery and other medical conditions. His facial pain has continued for more than a year now. Pray for healing and finances to cover these needs. Pray for an increase in our monthly support.

Pray for Jenny as she considers what to do after graduation.

She is considering mission work and a variety of other occupations. Pray for clear guidance.

Pray for our daughters Maria and Rachel who are both expecting (Maria in December and Rachel in April). Pray for healthy babies and good deliveries.

I t has been over four years since we returned from Papua New Guinea (PNG) and began mobilization work. During our four years here, we have been asked three times to consider returning to PNG. Each time we have prayerfully considered returning, but on each occasion the Lord has prevented us from doing so.

We both would like to return overseas for at least eight more years (two field terms). However, recently Chuck has had a series of medical conditions which have required repeated doctor visits and even a surgery (hernia).

These doctor visits have confirmed to us that for the next year we should remain here in the USA. However, our long

term goal is that the Lord would allow us to return overseas again. Please pray with us for the Lord’s timing in this.

We are open to returning to PNG, but we also are open to going to a new location. We have considered South America since the work is winding down there and it is difficult to recruit for this work. However, we want the Lord to guide our decision both in terms of timing and location. Our daughter Jenny graduates from college in May 2005 and will need our support for a while. So until she settles into a vocation we will wait to make a decision.
