MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS April 2016 Update

Chuck and Barb at the conference

Dear Friends and Family, Many of you know that in March we took a trip to Germany on behalf of Wycliffe to attend a conference for educators. This conference was for teachers and administrators from various schools set up for missionary kids (MK). We represented Wycliffe since we recruit teachers and administrators for many of these schools. The conference was both encouraging and enlightening as it not only put us in contact with the staff who handle recruits who come to these schools, but it also pointed out areas where we need to improve in our recruitment work. Much of our time was spent manning a table for Wycliffe which conference attendees visited. Some of our time was also spent attending educational workshops and the main sessions of the conference so we could learn more about education for missionary children. Chuck was also pleased to be able to do a workshop on recruitment for a dozen schools. He was also able to have one-on-one sessions with several schools to help them specifically in their recruitment efforts.

One of the great joys we had at the conference was spending time with two of our children, their wives and four of our grandchildren. Our son Isaac and his wife Suzanne are Wycliffe teachers at Black Forest Academy (MK school) in Kandern, Germany were the conference was held. We hung out with them at the conference where Suzanne presented at three workshops. We also stayed with them for few nights at their home.

Our daughter Maria Mishler and husband Josh also work for Wycliffe and serve in Kandern, Germany. We stayed with Maria and our four grandchildren for a number of days as Josh was traveling to do member care for our translation teams. At the end of our time in Germany, Josh returned and we enjoyed time with the whole family there! We praise the Lord for a successful conference and being able to spend time with our family!

News Flash: After doing research, Wycliffe recently found that the ministry budget for its missionary staff needed to be adjusted to meet the rising demands of healthcare, retirement and other expenses. This means that for the first time in a number of years, the monthly amount we need to raise has increased, creating a funding shortfall. Pray for increases and new partners to join us. Some have asked too how our efforts to save money to replace our aging van is going. We have raised roughly 80% of our need and still lack around $2,000. We hope to raise sufficient funds this spring to get a newer vehicle so we can take a trip this fall to visit supporters and churches. Pray for this need. FOR SUPPORTING US FINANCIALLY BY MAIL

Recruitment Update Your continued support of our work continues to bear fruit. So far, Chuck has helped 10 people join Wycliffe this year and 7 more are in application. Chuck continues to work with 75 people who are expressing interest in working with Wycliffe. Barb has helped 2 people leave for their internships and is helping an additional 8 people with their applications. Pray that many more will apply soon.
