MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS October 2019 Update
Dear Friends and Family, In our last newsletter we noted that Chuck has been asked to get involved in recruiting educators for our Wycliffe Missionary Kids (MKs). When he said yes, he did not know the serious need we have to recruit teachers, school administrators and other school staff for our MKs. We are now at a critical time and our need to find educators is urgent. You might say we are at a crisis stage.
MK Education Crisis You may be wondering why trying to recruit 130 educators is a crisis. Well, that isn’t the crisis, but it will be hard. The crisis is that last year Wycliffe worldwide had 50 educators leave the field and we recruited only 12 new ones! Many have left after teaching for a decade or more and have had to return home due to care for aging parents, children who are now in college and need support and sometimes for health reasons. That combined with the fact that the year before we lost an additional 50 educators and only had 15 new ones join that year, leaves us with around 200 educators serving with a need to recruit 130+ more. So, this is a call to prayer and to action and we need your help!!!

Wycliffe has over 2,700 MKs scattered around the world. To meet their educational needs, a large number of MK schools have been set up in all corners of the globe to meet that need. Today we have learned that Wycliffe has 35 such MK schools and the number of educators needed in these MK schools for the 2020/2021 school year is 130+ and that number is growing.

Global Education & Care Orientation
Promoting Our Need For Educators
(GECO) In order to help prepare educators who apply to serve with Wycliffe at one of the 35 MK schools, an orientation course (GECO) is held each summer. It is required training for every educator serving with Wycliffe, but the event is open to anyone thinking of serving, even if they don’t apply to Wycliffe. This is the first year this event has been promoted online.
One of the first things Chuck did when asked to help oversee our educational recruitment work was to get a promotional card produced that can be handed out to interested people. Wycliffe’s media department went to work and now you can order these cards to hand out to your friends.

We need your help to promote this week long event (www.wycliffe.org/geco). While there is a cost to the event, any educator who attends one of the ACSI Educator Job Fairs noted and signs up for GECO will receive a discount if they apply by a certain date. Details concerning the discount will be given out at the event!

If a person attends one of the ACSI Job Fairs, registers to attend GECO and then applies to serve with Wycliffe and becomes a member before coming to GECO will be able to attend the GECO course for free! That is a $600 discount!!!
