Biography of Wyatt Mould

Wyatt Mould studied to become a journeyman lineman at Northwest Lineman College (NLC) in Meridian, Idaho. Founded in 1993, NLC is a private vocational technical school that offers programs focused on careers in the power delivery field
After completing his coursework, Wyatt joined the IBEW Mountain States Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training (MSLCAT) Program, which provides structured training for the
electrical construction industry The program blends classroom learning with hands-on field experience, allowing participants to earn while they learn. Through this apprenticeship, he developed skills in live-line work, system troubleshooting, and high-voltage maintenance, while deepening his understanding of electrical theory and safety procedures.
Wyatt worked on power lines across Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Texas for three years, traveling with crews to restore power and expand grid systems. These experiences exposed him to different terrains, weather conditions, and utility infrastructures Whether setting poles in Montana’s plains or repairing storm-damaged lines in Texas, he built teamwork, resilience, and adaptability essential to any lineman.
Training at Northwest Lineman College
At NLC, he completed a 15-week pre-apprentice program combining classroom instruction with practical labs The training covered electrical theory, line construction, power delivery systems, and workplace safety He learned about electrical principles such as voltage, current, and circuits while practicing physical skills like pole climbing, conductor handling, splicing, and correctly using tools and specialty equipment
Safety was a primary focus of his education. He was trained to work safely with high voltages, use insulated tools, practice fall protection, understand lock-out/tag-out procedures, and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) standards
Work as a Lineworker
As a lineman, Wyatt constructed, maintained, and repaired transmission and distribution systems that delivered electricity from generation sources to homes and businesses. His work included overhead and underground systems, transformers, switches, and other power infrastructure
He performed duties such as stringing conductors, splicing wires, inspecting and testing electrical equipment, replacing poles, and restoring power during outages Many of these tasks were done in demanding conditions, including storms and high elevations, requiring strong physical ability and safety awareness
Lineworker Skills
Through his education and field experience, he developed strong technical and diagnostic skills and precision in physical work He became proficient in handling specialized tools and equipment, critical for working safely around high-voltage lines and at elevated heights. His role also required teamwork, problem-solving, and endurance to perform effectively in outdoor environments and under varying conditions
