Starfish/Duck (4-24 months)

An introductory class for babies and toddlers and their parent or caregiver. To enter this level, children must be able to hold their head up. The goal of this orientation to water class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries, and songs and play in the water. Children will build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active water play. Parent participation is required.

Sea Turtle/Sea Otter/ Salamander (24 Months - 5 Years)

Sunfish/Crocodile/Whale (3-5 Years)

These are transitional levels for preschoolers and their parents. Parents can gradually transfer the preschoolers to the care of the instructor. With Sea turtle, parents should be prepared to go in the water for the first few lessons. For children who are 3 they will enter the program at the Sea Otter level. These levels are designed to develop skills in swimming such as floating and gliding. Water safety and making smart choices around water are highly emphasized. Children will be divided on the first day of lessons into their appropriate level.

SPRING 2014 Level

Swim Kids 1-4 Swim Kids: 1-4 (6+ Years)

These levels provide an orientation to the water and introduce floats and glides with kicks. Increasing distances will build the child’s endurance and improve skills in front and back swims. Front crawl, back glide and shoulder roll for back crawl are further developed, with fast continuous kicking. Diving is introduced, and proper use of a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is explored. Children will be divided on the first day of lessons into their appropriate levels.

Swim Kids: 5-10 (6+ Years)

(45 minute class) In swim Kids 5-10, children build on their previous skills and work on their endurance with their front crawl and back crawl stroke. Whip kick, breast stroke and elementary backstroke are introduced and children will learn about airway and breathing obstructions, and the performance of rescue breathing on children and adults. Endurance will continue to be increased from a 50m to a 500m swim. Children will be divided on the first day of lessons into their appropriate levels.

Super Saver Swim Lessons

These are a great value. Private swim lessons are for up to 2 participants around the same skill level. They run the same amount of session dates that our regular lesson blocks run. Children or adults can focus on specific skill or full levels. Great for those who enjoy the one on one teaching experience. Please note missed lessons cannot be rescheduled.

SEAPARC Staff Profile People may recognize Des from one of her many roles at SEAPARC. Since starting in 2007 Des has worked in the concession, preschool, after school care and summer camps. She is a swim instructor, a life guard, Babysitter Course instructor, For The Girls program leader, SEAPARC bus driver and most recently the Aquatic Program Assistant. Who knows, maybe she will be driving the Zamboni one day! Co-workers describe her as a fun-loving, respectful, responsible super star. Des was born and raised in Sooke and is happy to still be working and living in the community. Des is a proud dog lover, who owns two Dobermans, Odin and Baron. Her favourite movie is Big Fish (good answer for a life guard) and her go to dessert is a DQ Blizzard with Reese Peanut Butter Cups and Cheese Cake Chunks. Des’ favourite SEAPARC summer camp destination is the Pot Holes. Look for Des at your next swim lesson, summer camp or visit to the pool. We are happy Des is part of the SEAPARC team!
