Shallow Water Fit

The movements are varied and challenging and designed for everybody to work at their own intensity level. This class can also be done in deep water with slight modifications.

Aqua Fit Mix

A combo class done in shallow and deep water designed to give you a full body workout. Increase your strength and cardiovascular endurance, while improving flexibility and agility.

Aqua Balance

This gentle, low-impact, shallow water class will focus on balance, flexibility and strength.

There will be use of pool equipment to enhance physical literacy.

All Abilities welcome.

Aqua Zumba®

This class blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance and low impact exercises.

Water Works

Low-impact exercises to help increase mobility, dexterity and flexibility of the body.

Focus on proper posture and alignment through full range of motion movements.

This class is great for those with arthritis, osteoporosis or pre/post-surgery.

Deep Water Fit

Condition your body with little to no impact.

This class uses a variety of movements with interval training to challenge your core and strengthen your muscle. Water fit belts provided.

Swim Fit-Length Swimming

For beginners to seasoned swimmers. A workout that includes stroke correction and technique. Workouts are based on the participants and their levels. Drop-in and give it a try.

Aqua X-Fit

Aqua X-Fit Swimming combines bodyweight land movements and is paired with swimming skills and drills. This is a high cardio, low impact workout. Great cross training opportunity for all types of athletes.

Tabata is 4 minutes of high-intensity interval training, alternating between 20 seconds of high intensity followed by 10 seconds of rest for a total of 8 rounds. You set your own level of intensity. These workouts are full body, fast-paced and fun!

Pickleball

A fun racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.

Cardio bursts mixed with strength and endurance moves that allow you to work at your own level using a variety of equipment.

No choreography and easily adaptable for all fitness levels.

Combine the aerobic workout of indoor cycling with strength training and core work to get a perfectly balanced workout. Build endurance in this fun class where you control your own intensity and level.

For beginners to indoor cycling a 30 minute ride will be followed by 20 minutes of stretching, which will enhance your fitness and promote recovery. Work through cycling drills, and then slow it down for a relaxing stretch!

A physical conditioning class that uses Pilates, yoga and functional fitness to improve your strength and ability to use various muscle groups at the same time. Increase your endurance, balance and flexibility in this fun class designed for all abilities.

Learn to Fish Join the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC for one two hour session and learn the basics of freshwater fishing. Camp Volunteer 101 13+ Years

Participants will be introduced to the skills necessary to become a recreation leader through team building activities, group facilitation, and leading games and activities outside and in the pool. Upon completion of this course participants can apply to volunteer and gain valuable hands on experience by working with SEAPARC staff in our 2020 Summer Camps and/or Aquatics department. Basic first aid and personal safety measures are emphasized throughout this workshop.

School Age Programs Fun Kicks Soccer– Ongoing Registration Taekwondo

Pro-D Day Zip & Swim

Keep your soccer feet moving and working on some fun and technical soccer skills this spring. Sessions will include drills and games to develop your skills. Soccer cleats are optional.

From SEAPARC we’ll head to AdrenaLINE Zipline Adventure Tours for a two hour adventure including a 10min ATV ride, 8 ziplines over 100 acres and cross 2 suspension bridges. You’ll experience an exhilarating ride up to 60km/hr as you soar up to 150 feet off the ground on eight scenic ziplines ranging from 150 feet to an unforgettable 1000 feet.

We’ll head back to SEAPARC for lunch and a swim. Minimum 65lbs. Waiver Form must be signed at drop-off by parent/guardian with AdrenaLINE staff.

She Kicks Soccer

Let your kids learn to kick, punch, block and eventually break boards in these fun and dynamic Taekwondo classes with Mijo Martial Arts. Beginning as a white belt, students will have the opportunity to progress through our coloured belt system while learning exciting kicks, (including jumping, flying and spinning kicks), dynamic hand strikes and self-defence all in a supportive, inclusive and structured learning environment led by a 5th degree Master Instructor!

Sign In & Out:

Parents and alternate pick-ups are required to sign-in and out each day. Photo ID is required.

Children 10+ may sign themselves out with written permission, see reception for more details.

Medications, Epi-pens & Inhalers: If your child requires medication during program hours a medication form must be completed before the first day of camp.

Behavioural Expectations:

All children and youth attending recreation programs are expected to behave in a manner which ensures their own safety and the safety of other participants, staff and volunteers in the program. Staff will be responsible for explaining rules and

boundaries for participants, reminding children about appropriate behavior and to encourage positive behavior in their program.

Children are responsible for:

• Staying Safe: following instructions

given by program leaders and being responsible for their actions.

• Being Respectful: respecting other participants and staff, being truthful and honest with others, and caring for the building, equipment, and materials provided.

• Trying Your Best: be open to trying new things and participating.

• Having Fun! Parents will be notified if children and youth are not meeting behavioural expectations or following rules. Children endangering their safety or another person’s safety may be asked to the leave the program and only return when accommodations can be made to ensure the safety of all.

Mental Health First Aid - Youth

Beginner Golf Clinic

This course is intended for adults who interact with youth aged 14-25. This course focuses on the four most common mental health disorders including substance related, mood related, anxiety and trauma related, and psychotic disorders. In addition this course includes instruction about eating disorders and deliberate self-injury. Participants who take this course are well prepared to interact confidently about mental health with the young people in their lives, including at schools, extra-curricular activities, social services, family, friends, and communities.

These clinics are the perfect way to learn the game of golf and have some fun. Strong emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals - proper grip, posture, stance, and rules of the game. On the last day we will play on the course. Golf clubs are available for use if needed.

Swim Lessons Starfish/Duck

Sea Otter (Unparented)

4 Months – 24 Months

Children who are 3 years old or who have never participated in swimming lessons will enter the program here. In this level, swimmers will learn how to submerge, blow bubbles and open their eyes under water.

Using games and activities, they will further develop their assisted floats & glides on their front and back and also experience age appropriate water safety skills.

(Parent Participation Required) This is an introductory class for babies and toddlers, and their parent or caregiver. To enter this level, children must be able to hold their head up. The goal of this class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries and holds in the water. Children and parents will build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active participation.

Sea Turtle (Parent Participation Required) 24-36 Months

This is a transitional level for preschoolers aged 24-36 months and their parents or caregivers. This level parents can gradually transfer their child into full time care of an experienced instructor. Participants and their caregivers work on submersion, jumping into chest deep water with assistance & kicking.

Floats & recovery to a standing position are introduced and practiced. *Children older than 36 months who need parental support in the water will start here.

Child must meet the minimum age requirement by first day of lessons.

Salamander/Sunfish 3-5 Years

In Salamander, unassisted floats and glides are taught. Rollover glides and front swims are introduced through games and songs. The fun includes jumping into chest deep water.

Sunfish pushes the distance of all glides, and floats in deep water are practiced. Learning also focuses on good judgment in, on or around the water.

Crocodile/Whale 3-5 Years

Preschoolers start independent glides and kicking in deep water. Endurance is built though increasing distances for front and back swims as well as maintaining a surface support for 10 seconds. In Whale, focus is on progressions to front crawl. Front glides and front swim are performed for 10m. The basics of diving are introduced.

Swim Lessons No class Aug 3 Level

Level 1/2

This is an entry level for children to gain confidence moving through water.

Rhythmic breathing and head submersion is encouraged and practiced through activities.

Floats with recovery, and glides with and without flutter kick are taught. In level 2, the distance of front glides are increased to 10m.

Rollover glides and front swim is practiced.

Level 3/4

This level focuses on forming safe habits when swimming in deep water. Sitting dives and treading water is introduced. The combination of front glides and side glides is taught as a progression to front crawl. In level 4, endurance is built with a 25m distance swim. Back glides now include a shoulder roll in preparation for back crawl.

Level 5/6

In Level 5 back glides with shoulder rolls are now developed into back crawl. Whip kick on the back and sculling is introduced in this level. Endurance is built through a 50m distance swim. Level 6 focuses on rhythmic breathing for front crawl encouraging a fluent stroke. Whip kick is now elementary backstroke, combining sculling and whip kick into one swim. The distance swim is 75m.

Level 7/8 & 9/10

In these levels, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breast stroke and sidestroke are introduced and practiced.

Endurance is built though 150m – 500m distances swims and different treading water techniques such as eggbeater. There is an emphasis on personal safety as well as the safety as others, including dealing with airway obstructions and hypothermia.

Red Cross Babysitters Course

Our classic summer camp with a SPLASH of everything your camper needs to feel confident when they adventure on their own, on or off the water: Introduction to lifeguarding skills, first aid, water safety & rescue basics. Kids will learn attitudes and skills that could one day save a life. There will be lots of time for forest games, out trips and fun in the pool too! Campers must be comfortable swimming 50m or have completed SK 5.

Learn to care for children of various ages.

Basic first aid and personal safety measures are emphasized throughout this workshop.

Prerequisites: Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, 16 years old. The Lifesaving Society’s NL award is recognized as the standard measure of lifeguard performance in Canada.

NL training prepares lifeguards to prevent incidents and resolve emergencies as needed.

NL is worth two Grade 12 High school credits.

Bronze Medallion/Cross Combination Class 13+ Years

The Lifesaving Society “Bronze Medallion/ Cross Combination” program provides a solid foundation for water safety in B.C. It is also a ‘building block’ towards becoming a lifeguard. In Medallion, candidates learn lifesaving techniques for challenging openwater rescues, develop stroke efficiency, and endurance (500 metre timed swim).

Certification includes CPR-A/AED. In Bronze Cross, candidates learn advanced lifesaving training; including the management of aquatic spinal injuries and preventing loss of life in a variety of aquatic emergencies.

CERTIFICATIONS STANDARD FIRST AID AND CPR C

A requirement for many places of employment, this comprehensive course covers head, spine, bone and joint injuries, poisoning and much more. Both First Aid and CPR C (including AED) are covered in this class, preparing all to leave as certified First Aiders. A written test is required at the end of the second day. Certification is valid for 3 years.

Affordable Recreation Leisure Involvement for Everyone (L.I.F.E.) SEAPARC is pleased to offer the LIFE (Leisure Involvement for Everyone) Program. It is designed to provide no cost and low-cost recreation opportunities for individuals and families on limited incomes.

The LIFE program offers free or reduced fee options for a variety of activities. Membership passes are given to each family member.

Individuals and families who live in Sooke or Juan de Fuca Electoral Area whose combined gross family income per household falls within or below the “Low Income” levels recognized by Statistics Canada may apply.

Free Admission

Children 4 years and under receive free admission at SEAPARC when accompanied by a paying adult or someone 16+ years.

Program Fees

Fees usually allow programs to recover direct costs (i.e. instructors and supplies). If you find it difficult to participate in any program because of financial limitations, please speak with our reception staff.

Withdrawals must be submitted in writing to the Recreation Coordinator 30 days prior to the last day that your child will attend the program.

Minimum registration must be met within 72 hours prior to the start of any program. Please register early to avoid disappointment of cancelled programs.

We require 72 hours notice in order to reschedule a session. Withdrawals within 72 hours notice and missed sessions cannot be rescheduled or refunded.

Any NSF transactions will be subject to a $15 fee.

Holidays/Long Weekends

Most programs are not scheduled to run on statutory holidays or long weekends.

This will be noted on your program registration confirmation.
