The movements are varied and challenging and designed for everybody to work at their own intensity level. This class can also be done in deep water with slight modifications.

Low-impact exercises to help increase mobility, dexterity and flexibility of the body.

Focus on proper posture and alignment through full range of motion movements.

This class is great for those with arthritis, osteoporosis or pre/post-surgery.

Aqua Fit Mix

A combo class done in shallow and deep water designed to give you a full body workout. Increase your strength and cardiovascular endurance, while improving flexibility and agility.

Deep Water Fit

Condition your body with little to no impact.

This class uses a variety of movements with interval training to challenge your core and strengthen your muscles. Water fit belts provided.

Aqua Zumba® *

Drop-in option available for this registered class, see page 23. $12.50 drop-in fee.

Swim Fit- Length Swimming

For beginners to seasoned swimmers. A workout that includes stroke correction and technique. Workouts are based on the participants and their levels. Drop-in and give it a try.

Athletic Step

High/low impact class, includes step, cardio, strength and core exercises. All levels welcome.

HIIT Tabata

Tabata is 4 minutes of high-intensity interval training, alternating between 20 seconds of high intensity followed by 10 seconds of rest for a total of 8 rounds. You set your own level of intensity. These workouts are full body, fast-paced and fun!

Pickleball

A fun racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.

Location: Journey Middle School. Schedule subject to change due to school events.

Mommy & Me Fitness

Each class provides a full body workout: cardio, muscular endurance, postnatal specific core work and flexibility. Women should be 4+ weeks postpartum (6 weeks for caesareans). All fitness levels are welcome.

Power Circuit

Cardio bursts mixed with strength and endurance moves that allow you to work at your own level using a variety of equipment.

No choreography and easily adaptable for all fitness levels.

Slow Flow Yoga

Flow through simple yoga postures with attention to alignment. Kick start your immune system, unravel chronic tension, and engage core support. All levels welcome.

Zumba® in the Circuit

Mix of high energy Latin inspired dance rhythms and strength training for one complete workout.

Zumba® Gold

Improve your cardiovascular health in this modified Zumba® Gold chair class with easy to follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on range of motion and coordination, moving in a chair or wheelchair.

Walk & Roll - FREE

This is a group for any expecting or new parents to get out and get moving. A great way to exercise and meet other new parents too. Our walk leader, Des, will meet you at SEAPARC for the start of each walk. These walks are designed for babies being worn in a carrier or in a stroller. Please leave dogs at home. Last day Oct 25.

Youth Hockey

A program for everyone to play together and practice skating and puck handling skills. A family game will be played on the far end of the ice. Helmets and gloves are required for all participants. It is recommended that youth wear full gear for their own safety.

Parent and Tot $2 Skate

Drop off during Skate Shop Hours for same day pick–up, or drop-off anytime for pick-up within 48hrs.

These sessions provide an excellent opportunity for all members of the community to get active on the ice!

Helmets are strongly recommended for all participants.

11-17 Years

Get together with your friends for drop-in non-contact hockey. Program staff will be on the ice for games and shinny hockey. Goalies play for free. Each session is first come, first served. Full gear required.

Adult Hockey 16+ Years

All Ages

An opportunity for first time skaters to get comfortable on the ice with an adult who is comfortable on skates. We will have a skate instructor on the ice to assist you with teaching the basics of skating. Strollers welcome.

Red Cross Babysitters Course

This program is designed to provide a much needed break from electronic devices and is guaranteed to keep your boys busy, active and entertained!

Learn to care for children of various ages.

Basic first aid and personal safety measures are emphasized throughout this workshop.

Participants will also learn a variety of age appropriate games to give them the tools to be a great babysitter. A training manual is included in the course fee. A Red Cross Babysitters certification card will be provided upon successful completion of the course.

From SEAPARC we’ll head to AdrenaLINE Zipline Adventure Tours for a two hour adventure including a 10min ATV ride, 8 ziplines over 100 acres and cross 2 suspension bridges. You’ll experience an exhilarating ride up to 60km/hr as you soar up to 150 feet off the ground on eight scenic ziplines ranging from 150 feet to an unforgettable 1000 feet. We will then head back to SEAPARC for lunch and an afternoon swim. Minimum 65lbs. Waiver Form must be signed at drop-off by parent/guardian.

Intro to Hockey

Learn to Skate

A fun introduction to fundamental hockey and skating skills for children. This is an advanced Learn to Skate Program, geared towards skaters who are able to slowly skate and get up on their own. Skaters will work on Preschool 3 skating skills as well as passing and shooting. Helmet with a face cage, shin pads, and gloves are mandatory.

Arena Programs SEAPARC Leisure Complex is proud to be part of the Greater Victoria Active Communities Learn to Skate Program. This program will ensure consistency in skills learned across the region.

PRESCHOOL (3-5 Years) Participants will be taught basic skating skills including: balancing on two feet, touching toes, walking forwards, marching, and falling down and getting up.

For children who can skate independently. Skills include: gliding, two foot jumps, making snow, and walking backwards. PREREQUISITE PRESCHOOL 1.

Children will learn skills including: v-pushes, one foot gliding, two foot jump while gliding, walking backwards with some glide, two foot quarter-turns on the spot, and stopping. PREREQUISITE PRESCHOOL 2.

Children will learn: two-foot glides on a curve, walking cross cuts, backward sculling, and backwards stopping. PREREQUISITE PRESCHOOL 3.

SCHOOL AGE (6-12 Years) Children who do not have a lot of skating experience will build confidence on the ice. Skills covered include: forwards gliding, marching forward, making snow, falling down and getting up, and walking backwards.

This is an introduction to advanced skating skills, while continuing to focus on and enhance acquired skills.

Candidates learn advance lifesaving training to include management of aquatic spinal injuries and preventing loss of life in a variety of aquatic emergencies. Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for National Lifeguard (NL) and is worth two Grade 11 High school credits. Certification includes CPR-C/AED

This is the first step in the Swim Instructor development program. Step 1 involves three components: stroke and water safety skills screening, online learning (completed at home), and teaching experience.

Components are done sequentially with candidates being assigned a minimum of 8 teaching hours.

SEAPARC Sharks 7-14 Years

This swim and sports club focuses on endurance, stroke correction and aquatic fun and games. Participants will build confidence in the water while having a ton of fun with their friends. The group swims three times a week. Mondays and Wednesdays are dedicated to strokes and endurance while Fridays are spent trying different aquatic activities like snorkeling, water polo, diving and water games.

This is an introductory class for babies and toddlers, and their parent or caregiver. To enter this level, children must be able to hold their head up. The goal of this class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries and holds in the water. Children and parents will build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active participation.

Sea Otter (30 minute lessons)

This is a transitional level for preschoolers aged 24-36 months and their parents or caregivers. This level parents can gradually transfer their child into full time care of an experienced instructor. Participants and their caregivers work on submersion, jumping into chest deep water with assistance & kicking.

Floats & recovery to a standing position are introduced and practiced. *Children older than 36 months who need parental support in the water will start here.

Swim Lessons Child must meet the minimum age requirement by first day of lessons.

Sea Otter (Unparented) 3-5 Years

Children who are 3 years old or who have never participated in swimming lessons will enter the program here. In this level, swimmers will learn how to submerge, blow bubbles and open their eyes under water.

Using games and activities, they will further develop their assisted floats & glides on their front and back and also experience age appropriate water safety skills.

Salamander/Sunfish 3-5 Years

In Salamander, unassisted floats and glides are taught. Rollover glides and front swims are introduced through games and songs. The fun includes jumping into chest deep water.

Sunfish pushes the distance of all glides, and floats in deep water are practiced. Learning also focuses on good judgment in, on or around the water.

Crocodile/Whale 3-5 Years

Preschoolers start independent glides and kicking in deep water. Endurance is built though increasing distances for front and back swims as well as maintaining a surface support for 10 seconds. In Whale, focus is on progressions to front crawl. Front glides and front swim are performed for 10m. The basics of diving are introduced.

This is an entry level for children to gain confidence moving through water.

Rhythmic breathing and head submersion is encouraged and practiced through activities.

Floats with recovery, and glides with and without flutter kick are taught. In level 2, the distance of front glides are increased to 10m.

Rollover glides and front swim is practiced.

Swim Kids 1 (45 minute lessons)

Level 3/4

This level focuses on forming safe habits when swimming in deep water. Sitting dives and treading water is introduced. The combination of front glides and side glides is taught as a progression to front crawl. In level 4, endurance is built with a 25m distance swim. Back glides now include a shoulder roll in preparation for back crawl.

Level 5/6

In Level 5 back glides with shoulder rolls are now developed into back crawl. Whip kick on the back and sculling is introduced in this level. Endurance is built through a 50m distance swim. Level 6 focuses on rhythmic breathing for front crawl encouraging a fluent stroke. Whip kick is now elementary backstroke, combining sculling and whip kick into one swim. The distance swim is 75m.

Level 7/8 & 9/10

In these levels, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breast stroke and sidestroke are introduced and practiced.

Endurance is built though 150m – 500m distances swims and different treading water techniques such as eggbeater. There is an emphasis on personal safety as well as the safety as others, including dealing with airway obstructions and hypothermia.

1. Custom Private Lessons

Our most flexible option! You will work with a Program Supervisor to determine dates and times that work for you. You can also request your instructor. Progress cards are issued when 5 or more lessons are booked. We require 72 hours’ notice in order to reschedule a session. Withdrawals within 72 hours’ notice and missed lessons cannot be rescheduled or refunded, however please feel free to send a sibling, cousin or friend in place of the registered participant. All lessons must be booked within a single season. These lessons are based on staff and schedule availability.

HEALTHY LIVING

Participants will learn how to avoid food borne illnesses through food safety techniques in the kitchen, such as the causes of foodborne illnesses and developing a sense of food safety culture. Upon successfully passing the final quiz, participants will receive a BC recognized certificate from VIHA, valid for 5 years.

Lean Team Fitness Program

Using a basic approach to fitness, we will encourage the development of strength and stamina with medium-to-high intensity, core-focused, full-body workouts. You will use a variety of equipment including dumbbells, bands, stability balls, kettlebells, and your own body to activate every muscle in your body. Be prepared to see what you can do! Quick exercise modifications allow all fitness levels to participate, from beginner to advanced. Drop-ins welcome!

Food Chi Fermentation Workshop

Nature's Chef would like to sow some seeds with you, tips and tricks on how to preserve the autumn abundance. This is a hands on workshop in the EMCS kitchen. Make your own sauerkraut and natural soda using local-wild ingredients with the guide of your own personal chef. Sauerkraut is a great way to extend your fall harvest, from the farm to wild foraged ingredients. Soda is a wonderful method to maximize fruits, herbs, roots and even medicinal mushrooms! Both of these methods bring you a healthy gut flora that helps to strengthen your immune system throughout the winter cold/flu season. They also bring amazing flavours to the dining table to wow your guests!

The Sooke Makerspace provides an open and safe space, education, training, and mentoring for the purposes of enabling community members to design, create, invent, tinker, explore, discover and make works that would not be possible with the resources generally available to individuals working alone. It is part workshop, part science/computer/ electronics/ tech lab and part arts and craft room.

Some of the tools and equipment includes: various hand & power tools, ShopBot Desktop CNC, Prusa 3D Printer, Sawtop Table Saw, Planer, Jointer, Drill Press, Band Saw, Sewing Machines, and more! There is a dedicated textiles room available and a robotics room in the works.

The LIFE program offers free or reduced fee options for a variety of activities. Membership passes are given to each family member.

Individuals and families who live in Sooke or Juan de Fuca Electoral Area whose combined gross family income per household falls within or below the “Low Income” levels recognized by Statistics Canada may apply.

(Ages 7-13) The Transition Group practice 3x a week and offers a more intensive training regime than Pre-Competitive while building on the skills learnt in Pre-Comp. (Ages 9-14)

Program Withdrawals

In order to receive a full refund/credit, requests must be received at least 72 hours prior to the program start date.

Requests received after this time will not be accepted. Exceptions may be made for medical, relocation or other extenuating circumstances and the refund/credit will be issued on a pro-rated basis at the sole discretion of SEAPARC Leisure Complex.

Supporting documentation, i.e. medical note, may be required. A $5 administration fee will apply to all refund requests.

Withdrawals must be submitted in writing to the Recreation Coordinator 30 days prior to the last day that your child will attend the program.

Minimum registration must be met within 72 hours prior to the start of any program. Please register early to avoid disappointment of cancelled programs.

Active Families, Healthy Communities

We require 72 hours notice in order to reschedule a session. Withdrawals within 72 hours notice and missed sessions cannot be rescheduled or refunded.

Any NSF transactions will be subject to a $15 fee.

Holidays/Long Weekends

Most programs are not scheduled to run on statutory holidays or long weekends.

This will be noted on your program registration receipt.
