P R E SCHO O L 10 Month Licensed Preschool 3-4 Years
This preschool program is all about learning through play; encouraging children to develop independence, learning to solve problems, exploring the world around them, and nurturing their natural desire to learn. Every month we create a fun theme that guides the various daily activities. Each day, rain or shine, the children will venture outside to our outdoor play space or nearby trails to explore, run, and play. Upon returning inside, the children will enjoy snack time, activity centres, arts & crafts, circle and story time. Throughout the year, the preschool program will go on a variety of field trips and participate in special activities such as swimming and skating. Parent participation for these outings and special activities is greatly appreciated.
Our ECE certified staff provide a fun and safe environment for your little one to grow and develop their cognitive, physical, and social skills at their own pace. *Child must be appropriate age by the first day of class.
Starfish/Duck
4 months – 24 months
This is an introductory class for babies and toddlers, and their parent or caregiver. To enter this level, children must be able to hold their head up. The goal of this class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries and holds in the water. Children and parents will build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active participation.
Salamander/Sunfish 3-5 years
In Salamander, unassisted floats and glides are taught. Rollover glides and front swims are introduced through games and songs. The fun includes jumping into chest deep water. Sunfish pushes the distance of all glides, and floats in deep water are practiced. Learning also focuses on good judgment in, on or around the water.
Starfish /Duck (30 minute lessons)
Sea Turtle/ Sea Otter (30 minute lessons)
Sea Turtle/Sea Otter 2-5 years
Sea Turtle is a transitional level for preschoolers aged 24 – 36 months and either their parents or caregivers. Parents can gradually transfer their preschooler into the care of an experienced instructor where they will develop skills in swimming and water safety. Floats and recovery to a standing position are introduced and practiced. In Sea Otter, front glides are performed with assistance.
Salamander/ Sunfish (30 minute lessons)
Crocodile/Whale 3-5 years
Preschoolers start independent glides and kicking in deep water. Endurance is built though increasing distances for front and back swims as well as maintaining a surface support for 10 seconds. In Whale, focus is on progressions to front crawl. Front glides and front swim are performed for 10m. The basics of diving are introduced.

T
he Sooke Bike Park and Hike and Bike Connector Trail are now open and ready for use at SEAPARC. The new bike park and trail create an opportunity for people to be active and foster a connection with nature in our community. The project was made possible through a $75,000 grant from the CRD through the Active Transportation Innovative Infrastructure Funding Program with SEAPARC, the District of Sooke and the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area as participants. SEAPARC committed additional funding. The Bike Park will provide access to a wide variety
28
of biking terrain for users of all skill levels including a pump track, a circular hard-dirt surface with hills and dirt jumps. The bike park is designed to entertain and challenge all levels of riders. The Hike and Bike Connector Trail is a user friendly, upgraded trail that stretches from the end of Throup Road (by the Sooke Skate Park) to SEAPARC and the Bike Park. This trail allows users from local schools and neighborhoods to walk or bike to and from SEAPARC without having to do so along a busy road.
Active Families, Healthy Communities
T
he Sooke Bike Park is a community driven project, and thus day to day tasks will be handled by volunteers. If you are interested in being part of the volunteer bike park crew please visit SEAPARC to fill out a volunteer application. Any major changes to the park will be overseen by SEAPARC management and performed by professional bike park designers. Please respect Bike Park and Trail closures. Please respect rules and signage posted.
