HELPFUL HINTS Refund Policy

Waitlists Work!

In order to receive a full refund, requests must be received 72 hours prior to the program start date. Exceptions may be made for medical, relocation or other extenuating circumstances at the sole discretion of SEAPARC Leisure Complex. A $5 administration fee will apply to all approved refund requests with less than 72 hours notice.

Have you ever tried to register for a program with no space available? Adding your name to a waitlist allows us to create new programs when possible and notify you when spaces become available.

Program Cancellations Unfortunately, some programs may be cancelled. Reasons for cancellations may include low enrollment, availability of facilities, availability of instructors, or inclement weather.

Refunds will be issued for programs cancelled by SEAPARC Leisure Complex.

Licensed Preschool Registration A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a spot in the 10 month licensed preschool program. Withdrawals must be submitted in writing to the Recreation Program Coordinator 30 days prior to the last day your child will attend the program.

Missed Classes Classes missed by participants due to illness, vacation, or other special events will not be refunded or rescheduled.

Holidays/Long Weekends Most programs are not scheduled to run on statutory holidays or long weekends. This will be noted on your registration confirmation.

Affordable Recreation LIFE (Leisure Involvement for Everyone) is designed to provide free and low cost recreation opportunities through the SEAPARC Leisure Complex for individuals and families on limited income.

Individuals who live in Sooke or Juan de Fuca Electoral Area whose combined gross family income falls within or below the low income levels as recognized by Statistics Canada may apply. Application forms available at SEAPARC.

The SEAPARC Leisure Assistance Pass is for people with disabilities, of all ages, who require the assistance of a support person when engaging in leisure activities. Upon presentation of the pass at a participating venue, one support person will be given free or reduced admission; facilitating participation, while ensuring the person with a disability does not pay double for their admission.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a national charitable program that provides financial assistance for children and youth (ages 4-18) to participate in more than 70 activities related to physical activity.

Kidsport provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees so that all kids aged 18 and under in Greater Victoria can play a season of sport. The Greater Victoria chapter accepts applications and administers grants of up to $600 per child/year, for children and youth who live in any of the communities of the Capital Regional District. FITNESS & WELLNESS Teen Weight Room Orientation Ages 13-15 This will provide you with an introduction on how to safely use a recreation centre weight room. Arena Programs EARLY YEARS Ages 3 to 5 SEAPARC Leisure Complex is proud to be part of the Greater Victoria Active Communities Learn to Skate Program. This program will ensure consistency in skills learned across the region.

Preschool 1 Skaters will be taught basic skating skills including: balancing on two feet, touching toes, walking forwards, marching, and falling down and getting up.

Preschool 2 Skaters will learn skills including: gliding, two foot jumps, making snow, and walking backwards. This class is for children who can skate independently.

Prerequisite: Preschool 1

Preschool 3 Skaters will learn skills including: v-pushes, one foot gliding, two foot jump while gliding, walking backwards with some glide, two foot quarterturns on the spot, and stopping.

Prerequisite: Preschool 2

Helmets and gloves are required for all skaters on the ice for lessons.

A limited number of helmets and skates are available, fee included in the lessons.

Preschool 4 Skaters will learn skills including: two-foot glide on a curve, walking cross cuts, backward sculling, and backwards stopping.

Arena Programs SCHOOL AGE Ages 5 to 12 Learn to Skate - Level 1

Learn to Skate - Level 4

Children who do not have a lot of skating experience will build confidence on the ice. Skills will include: marching forwards, forwards gliding, making snow, falling down and getting up, and walking backwards.

Skaters will learn skills including: two foot stop, forwards cross cuts, turning forwards to backwards and backwards to forwards, and two foot jump in a glide backwards.

Prerequisite: Level 3

Learn to Skate - Level 5

Learn to Skate - Level 2 Skaters will learn skills including: forward sculling, one foot forward glides, stopping, walking backwards with some glide, and two foot half turns on the spot.

Prerequisite: Level 1 or Preschool 3

Skaters will learn skills including: backwards Mohawk turn, two foot stop in both directions, one foot jump gliding forwards, fast backwards start and fast forward start from back stop.

Prerequisite: Level 4

Learn to Skate - Level 3

Learn to Skate - Level 6

Skaters will learn skills including: one foot glides on a curve, forwards walking cross cuts, backwards skating and sculling, two foot backwards glide to one foot and snow plow stop.

Prerequisite: Level 2 or Preschool 4

This is an introduction to advanced skating skills, while continuing to focus on and enhance acquired skills. Skaters can request specific skills they would like to focus on with unstructured practice time with instructor supervision.

Red Cross Babysitter’s Course Ages 11+

Bronze Medallion

Learn to care for children of various ages. Basic first aid and personal safety measures are emphasized throughout this workshop. Participants will also learn a variety of age appropriate games to give them the tools to be a great babysitter. A training manual is included in the course fee. A Red Cross Babysitters certification card will be provided upon successful completion of the course.

The Bronze Medallion award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principals, candidates learn lifesaving techniques for challenging open-water rescues, develop stroke efficiency, and endurance (400 metre timed swim). Includes: Lifesaving manual, pocket mask and whistle. May register if aged 12 and successfully completed Bronze Star.

Swimmers receive an orientation to water and the pool area and work on floats, glides and kicking. Swimmers build their endurance by working on the 5m front swim. They learn about deep-water activities and proper use of a lifejacket/ Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Fitness activities include the 10m flutter kick and a 10m distance swim.

In these levels front swims are increased to 15m/25m, back crawl will focus on arm position and roll, safe boating and safety on ice is introduced. Front dive and treading water is practiced and endurance swims are built up to 50m/75m.

These levels work on all of the swimming strokes and increasing a swimmers endurance up to 500m swim. Whip kick, is introduced in level 7. In level 8, swimmers learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, the performance of choking rescues on children and adults, and standing shallow dives. Treading water and fitness skills are practiced. In level 10, there is a final assessment of the strokes for technique and distance.

Swim Kids 3/4 There is an introduction to diving and teaching swimmers to make wise choices about where and when to swim. In level 4, front crawl is introduced and back swim with shoulder roll. Endurance swims are 15m/25m.
