On Wednesday, Garry Alexander and Stephen Summers played their game of Senior Singles at Proserpine Bowls Club. Garry proved too consistent for Stephen, winning 26-1. On Saturday Garry Alexander played the next round of the Senior Singles against Bryan Davy. It must have been a great game with Bryan winning this 25-21. Also on Saturday, there was a B Pairs game with Gavin Noonan and Brett Saroglia defeating Peter Lawton (subbing for Bruce Uhe) and Arthur Griffith 19-10. The Championship Triples Competition saw Todd Leys, Nathan Dodds and Scott Hamilton defeat Harry Craig, and Brett and Barry Saroglia 26-14. The Final of the Club Championship Triples saw Todd Leys, Nathan Dodds, and Scott Hamilton defeat Jim Quod, Dale Haack, and Wayne Handley 24 -12. The team for the Pratt Cup has been selected: Singles Wayne Handley; Pairs Michael Kinnear and Grahame Kinnear; Fours Shane Kinnear, Jonathan Bye, Barry Saroglia, and Gavin Milne. Proserpine team plays Northern Beaches in the First Round at Marian with the winner going on to play the winner of Seaforth and Mackay. In Social Play on Wednesday Peter Lawton played double lead. Peter, Alen Sanderson, Sandy Daffara and Jim Quod defeated Peter, Tom Jessop, Mike Harrison, and Arthur Griffith 22-17. On Sunday Alen Sanderson, Mary Hedgelong and Peter Lawton defeated Nick Romanov, Philip Brown and Heather Brown 23-17. Contributed with thanks to Heather Brown Friday, Mackay: Betty Nicole and Helen Ward won the zone Champion of Champions, qualifying for the state finals in Brisbane. The club’s own Manny Isgro won the Men’s singles before teaming up with Shane Spann to win the zone Championship. The pair will join Betty Nicole and Helen Ward in heading to Brisbane for the finals. Tuesday afternoon: 20 players eyed the prize that was destined for John Brown and Wendy Pomeroy. Wednesday: Col Morris team up with Nik Fernbach to win the B Grade pairs final, while the afternoon Social bowls saw 30 bowlers compete for the prize. Skipper Mark Mawson with lead Michael Jacometti were outstanding winners of the day. The Wednesday Night Business House Bowls saw PRD lose their first game, going down to Woolies Allsorts. The Woolies team are now equal leaders with two rounds remaining. Saturday: Morning Scroungers saw first round winners Ladda Purdie, Tony Kelly, Russell Jackson, John Brown, and Peter Barratt playoff with Peter Barratt defeating Tony Kelly in the final. Sunday: Social bowls saw 28 bowlers vying for the prize. Newcomer Pip Heddles teamed up with second Lyn Graham, and Skipper Mark Mawson to win the day. Corey Stroud and Harry Craig from St Catherine’s school competed in the school’s national competition and finished a credible 7th. An amazing achievement for the year 8 students. Wednesday’s competition at Bowen Golf Club was a single stableford with ladies’ winners on a countback Karon McKenzie 39 points, and runner up Lynelle Riley, 39. Men’s winner on a countback was Kurt Gaudry 40 points, runner up Ezra Miller, 40. On Saturday we played the annual NRL footy themed, two ball ambrose sponsored NRL footy themed ambrose winners Denise and Glenn Bianco by Alan Cooper, Dwayne and Jason Bartlett, and Graeme Dalton. Winners were Denise and Glenn Bianco 63.75 nett, second on a countback was Brendan and Riley Malone 64.75 nett, third Brad Graham and Damien Dederer 64.75 nett. Pin shots to Tom Wikander with an OBP, Michael Strickett and Raewyn Glover, Graham Seaborne and Kevin Clark, Grace Nott. Grace Nott also won Best dressed lady and Arthur Fisk won Best dressed Man. Luke Paroz with a gross score of 221 for the 54 holes is this year’s Men’s Club Champion, and Trish McNeill, the ladies Champion with 260. Although not featuring in the placings, last year’s champion, Matt Bower, featured in so far as he eagled hole one on the Saturday, and aced hole nine on the Sunday. The men’s A grade runner-up was Jon Miller, 228, B grade winner Gary Scotford, 255, runner-up Mick Kavanagh 256, and the C grade winner was Rob Smith, 266, from Ben Rayment 280. The ladies’ runner-up was Mel Patullo, 277, B grade winner Anna Winterbourn, 291, from Elspeth Scotford, 292, and Paula McQuat took out the C grade with 330 from Renae Maxwell 348. In the nett event, the A grade winner was Scott Lee, 222 on a count back from Jason Bourke, B Grade Craig Smith 221 on a countback from Paul Gray, and in C grade, Trevor Paroz 219 beat Wayne Fitzgerald into second on 226. The ladies’ nett winner were: A grade Diane Chard, 228, from Mandy Patterson

The weekly 9-hole stableford was won this week by Rhys Bartholomew with 20 points. Clive Burnup and Renae Maxwell were close behind with 19 points, but it was Clive who took the count back for second place. On Friday, Jay Angel was the winner with 21 points and a count back win over Tyson Flavel. Dave Telford was third on a count back with 19 points. The 4 ball better ball played on Sunday saw the Barnards in first place, Dean and Josh came in ahead of Glenn Rees and Rob Lodders in second and Alan Clinch and Dave Wallace in third. 247, the B grade winner was Noelene Spurway 216 from Toni Clauss 228, and C Grade Sherri Meade 238 came in ahead of Rehab Hull with 250. Tuesday’s stableford winner was Ken Ryan from the Parks Golf club with 38 points, followed by Brian Smith and John Grosskreutz on 34. Simon Della Santa took the pin shot.
