1911 - On March 19, 1911, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the rst time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. On that day, over a million men and women took to the streets for a series of demands.

In the beginning, Women’s Day was a political event, but over time it lost its real meaning, becoming simply an opportunity for men to express their love for the women around them, in a way similar to Valentine’s Day.

International Working Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a day of global importance that celebrates the rights obtained by women in economic, political and social terms.
How did it all begin?
1908 - On March 8, 15,000 women marched in New York, demanding shorter working days, better wages, the right to vote, and an end to child labour. eir slogan was: “Bread and Roses”, bread symbolizing economic security and roses, an improvement in the quality of their lives. is revolt for women’s rights was soon assimilated by the Socialist Movement. In May of the same year, the Socialist Party of America decided that the last Sunday of February would become National Women’s Day.

In Romania, the celebration of March 8 is intertwined with the local tradition of Martisor, the celebration of the beginning of spring. It is celebrated by many symbolically as Mother’s Day, this being a reminiscence of the communist ideology.

On this day, in Italy, women receive mimosas from men. is custom is like that in Russia and Albania, where in addition to mimosas, the ladies also receive chocolate.
