We believe that by joining forces, we can make a significant impact on the lives of cancer patients and their families while providing valuable opportunities for Northlands Shopping Centre and its retailers.
The Cancer Society is the leading provider of cancer support and care to individuals and families affected by cancer in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our organisation is currently transitioning to create a stronger, more effective organisation that can better serve whānau and communities impacted by cancer. By combining resources, expertise, and networks, we can enhance support, services, and advocacy efforts. With the opening of the new Canterbury Cancer Centre, we are in an exciting position to be able to deliver a new suite of services and support.
The new Canterbury Cancer Centre is an advanced facility that aims to provide wrap around care for local families and accommodation for those who need to travel to Christchurch to access cancer treatment.

The Centre will provide a range of services including accommodation for over 9,000 families who are receiving cancer treatment in Christchurch. It will also offer the first of its kind allied cancer service to the Canterbury Community. In addition, the Centre will serve as a collaborative hub for cancer charities and healthcare professionals to work together on improving cancer support and outcomes. We are aiming to create not only a home away from home for these families travelling for cancer treatment, but also a centre for the whole cancer community. Families will travel from all over the South Island to access these FREE services, alleviating the burden of cancer.
While the services we provide to patients are free, they are not free to provide. The Cancer Society is a registered charitable organisation and relies on community donations, bequests, sponsorship, grants, and income from fundraising events to fund the mahi we do. We do not receive direct government funding to provide our services to the community.
