AT WINDWARD SCHOOL

THEATER MUSIC DANCE VISUAL AND MEDIA ARTS

As head of the art department at Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles, Sister Corita Kent’s (1918–1986) zen-like approach to teaching and art-making coupled the immediate thrust of pop art with timeless, universal philosophies. Producing some of the most exciting graphic prints ever made in the 20th century, her populist messages transformed the medium of serigraph into potent commentaries on poverty, racism, injustice, and love. Always energetic, forever evolving, Corita’s work sparked a generation of students and colleagues to look (and think) deeply during America’s turbulent times. This exhibition offers a brief survey of her serigraphs made between 1966-1982.
