With the addition of the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range in 2018, the Mountaineers now have the luxury of shooting their home matches in three venues: the WVU Coliseum, the WVU Shell Building and the WVU Rifle Range. Home to the countryâ€™s most tradition-rich program, the WVU Rifle Range, the teamâ€™s day-to-day shooting venue, is a reflection of the long-term success enjoyed by the 19-time national champion Mountaineers. A unique aspect of the range is the ability for shooters to work simultaneously. Innovative, challenging courses, designed to stimulate creativity and to provoke in-depth discussion, are offered in small class settings. PARENTS CLUB The Mountaineer Parents Club, with 20,000-plus members in 28 clubs, connects parents and families with the student experience. ATHLETICS A member of the Big 12 Conference, WVU competes in 18 intercollegiate varsity sports. ADMISSION AND APPLICATION TIMELINE Admission is based on a combination of high school GPA and ACT or SAT scores. Applications are processed beginning Aug. 15 for admission the following fall. March 1 is the deadline for WV residents to submit PROMISE Scholarship applications. WVU has a rolling admissions policy, and no official application deadline. MAKING GOOD ON A PROMISE PUT IN PLACE UPON HIS HIRING, JON HAMMOND, A NATIVE OF ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND, HAS RETURNED THE WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY RIFLE TEAM TO NATIONAL GLORY, IMPLEMENTING A STRATEGY FOR SUCCESS THAT HAS SEEN SIX NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 10 SEASONS, 10 INDIVIDUAL NCAA TITLES, NINE CONSECUTIVE GREAT AMERICA RIFLE CONFERENCE (GARC) CHAMPIONSHIPS, FIVE UNDEFEATED SEASONS, 141 ALL-AMERICA HONORS AND 13 COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA RECOGNITIONS. ADDITIONALLY, HAMMOND HAS OVERSEEN THE CAREERS OF MULTIPLE OLYMPIANS, INCLUDING 2016 GOLD MEDALISTS GINNY THRASHER AND NICCO CAMPRIANI. 2015-18 SEASONS The Mountaineers enjoyed a strong showing in 2017-18, Hammond’s 12th season at WVU. Nationally, Morgan Phillips became just the second WVU student-athlete to win two straight NCAA smallbore crowns, as she successfully defended her title at the 2018 NCAA National Championships. Phillips was the second Mountaineer under Hammond to win back-to-back NCAA titles and the first since Petra Zublasing (air rifle, 2012-13). The Mountaineers finished second overall at the NCAA Championships at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, with a 4708 aggregate total and claimed first in air rifle, their sixth straight title, with a 2381 total. WVU continued its dominance in the GARC, winning its fifth straight and 11th overall regular-season title, as well as its ninth consecutive championship title, shooting a winning 4699 score at the newly unveiled Bill McKenzie Rifle Range, at the WVU Shell Building. Ginny Thrasher swept the individual championships, winning her second career smallbore title and first career air rifle title, and Elizabeth Gratz was named the GARC Outstanding Senior. At season’s end, five Mountaineers earned 15 All-America honors and 18 All-GARC selections. Gratz repeated as the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner and became the first WVU student-athlete to win two career honors. Additionally, she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team for the second straight season, her third career accolade, and Thrasher was named to the second team for the second consecutive year. Gratz was the fourth Mountaineer in program history to receive a first-team honor and the first to snag two career awards. WVU has had at least one CoSIDA Academic AllAmerica honoree in each of the last nine seasons. The Mountaineers finished the 2017-18 season at 13-0 (9-0 GARC), the team’s third straight undefeated season and fourth unblemished record in five years. Additionally, WVU set the NCAA records for aggregate score (4742) and smallbore score (2356) in a win at Murray State on Nov. 12, 2017. The WVU rifle program was thrust into the spotlight months before the start of the 2016-17 season, as Thrasher (United States), a rising sophomore, and alum Nicco Campriani (Italy) combined for three Gold medals at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Thrasher claimed the first Gold of the Games, winning the women’s 10m air rifle, while Campriani, a 2011 graduate, won gold in the men’s 10m air rifle and 50m 3 positions. Fueled by the summer success, the Mountaineers deftly navigated their season on the strength of four returning letterwinners and three skilled freshmen and claimed their nation-best 19th NCAA National Championship. WVU earned its fifth straight national title with a championship-record 4723 score, shot at Ohio State’s French Field House. The team score was 17 shots better than runner-up TCU.

WVU swept the discipline titles for the third time in four years, finishing with marks of 2336 smallbore and 2387 air rifle. The team’s five-peat was the third in the sport since 1980. Rookies Milica Babic and Phillips won the smallbore and air rifle titles, respectively, marking the second straight season WVU freshmen claimed the individual championships. Six different Mountaineers have claimed NCAA titles under Hammond. Following the championship, five Mountaineers earned a

combined 14 All-America honors, and Phillips was named the NCAA Championships’ Top Performer. The Mountaineers finished the season at 12-0, the program’s second straight undefeated season. The squad then claimed its eighth straight GARC Championship with a 4725 total. Thrasher, the 2017 GARC air rifle champion, was named the GARC Shooter of the Year, while Babic claimed the GARC Rookie of the Year honor. Hammond also was named the GARC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and the fourth time in his career. Gratz led the Mountaineers academically, as she became the first WVU rifle student-athlete to earn the NCAA Elite 90 Award. She also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team, while Thrasher was named to the second team. A combination of senior leadership and rookie skill helped the Mountaineers push their NCAA title streak to four straight with a commanding performance at the 2016 NCAA Championship, as WVU shot 4703 for its 18th title in Akron, Ohio. For only the second time under Hammond, WVU won the NCAA smallbore and air rifle titles, shooting 2338 smallbore and 2365 air rifle. Additionally, Thrasher became the first freshman in NCAA history, and the first since Mountaineer Petra Zublasing did so in 2013, to sweep the individual titles, winning air rifle and smallbore. The Mountaineers also earned 20 All-America honors. WVU’s build-up to the NCAA victory was nothing short of spectacular, as the squad completed an undefeated 12-0 season and won its seventh straight GARC title with a 4702 showing. Thrasher, the GARC Rookie of the Year, captured the conference smallbore title, and Garrett Spurgeon was named the GARC Shooter and Senior of the Year. Additionally, Hammond was named the GARC Coach of the Year for the third time. 2012-15 SEASONS The Mountaineers extended their NCAA title streak to three straight with a comeback victory at the 2015 NCAA Championships, scoring 4702 and winning their nation-best 17th title in Fairbanks, Alaska.

WVU won its sixth straight GARC title with a 4709 showing at the conference championships. Spurgeon finished first in air rifle, while Ziva Dvorsak was named the GARC Shooter and Senior of the Year. Gratz was named the GARC Rookie of the Year. The Mountaineers finished the year with 23 All-America honors and 28 All-GARC awards. Hammond was named the Rifle Winter 2015 CaptainU Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Despite the graduation of three-time NCAA Champion Petra Zublasing, the Mountaineers did not skip a beat in 2013-14, as Hammond led the Mountaineers to their second straight National Championship and a perfect 10-0 record. Ranked No. 1 for the majority of the season, there was little doubt WVU would successfully defend its national title, as the team owned a 17-shot lead after the first day of competition, winning its first smallbore title under Hammond with a 2338 score. The Mountaineers secured the NCAA title with a first place, 2367 air rifle score, giving them a two-day total of 4705. Three Mountaineers shot in each discipline final, with Prediger and Spurgeon finishing second in air rifle and smallbore, respectively. Prior to the team’s national title victory, the squad scored its fifth straight GARC championship, shooting 4700. Prediger won the GARC air rifle title, and the Mountaineers claimed 14 All-GARC honors. WVU collected 14 All-America honors, and Hammond was named the Rifle Winter 2014 CaptainU Coach of the Year. Kyanko also was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America Men’s AtLarge Second Team. Hammond rallied his 2012-13 squad around 2012 Olympian Zublasing and a core of young, talented shooters. The Mountaineers navigated a difficult schedule and earned the program’s second National Championship in five years.

Ranked No. 1 nationally throughout the duration of the season, the Mountaineers overcame a one-shot smallbore deficit and a thirdplace finish at the NCAA Championships en route to winning the air rifle team title and bringing the National Championship trophy back to Morgantown for a nation-best 15th time.

championship since 2001, and the second WVU student-athlete to win three career national titles in any sport. Hammond was named the CRCA Coach of the Year, his second career honor. WVU scored 12 NRA All-America honors, including seven combined first-team accolades. WVU also won its fourth straight GARC title. Zublasing was named the GARC Shooter and Senior of the Year, and Spurgeon earned the GARC Rookie of the Year honor. 2009-12 SEASONS Tasked with maintaining the Mountaineers’ level of success with a young team recovering from the loss of seven seniors, Hammond rose to the challenge in 2011-12. Nationally ranked in the top three all year, WVU bounced back from a regular-season loss to Kentucky to grab its third straight GARC title. The Mountaineers, winners of the GARC Sportsmanship Award, also won the air rifle title and were paced by Zublasing, the discipline champion and GARC Shooter of the Year. Additionally, Kyanko was named the GARC Rookie of the Year, and the squad earned 12 All-GARC honors. The team, boasting a 12-2 record, including a 5-1 mark in conference action, advanced to the NCAA Championships for the sixth straight season and placed sixth. Zublasing won the air rifle title, becoming the second Mountaineer to win the discipline title in as many years. As a team, WVU finished second in air rifle and eighth in smallbore. Following the national championships, six Mountaineers earned eight NRA All-America honors, including first team air rifle and smallbore marks for Zublasing, while Hammond was named the NRA Distinguished College Coach for the second time. Leading a team that boasted seven seniors, five of whom comprised his first Mountaineer recruiting class, the 2010-11 season was another championship year for Hammond. Though narrowly edged by GARC rival Kentucky at the 2011 NCAA Rifle Championships, the Mountaineers, ranked No. 1 in the nation throughout the season, won the air rifle team title and finished second overall in smallbore. Additionally, Nicco Campriani won the NCAA air rifle title, the first WVU shooter to earn a national championship since 1997. Campriani also finished second in the smallbore competition. All told, the Mountaineers earned a combined five top-five air rifle and smallbore finishes, and six shooters scored eight NRA All-America honors. Posting an 11-2 overall record and a 5-1 conference mark, the Mountaineers successfully defended their GARC title and also swept the air rifle and smallbore titles. WVU was the first conference team to repeat as champions since Nebraska (2006, ’07). Campriani, the individual air rifle, smallbore and combined score champion, was named the GARC Shooter and Senior of the Year. Hammond coached a talented, upperclass-laden squad to an 11-0 record in 2010, the team’s first undefeated season since 2001, and a GARC regular-season title. The Mountaineers followed their unblemished regular season with a win at the GARC Championships and a sweep of the discipline titles. The victory was the program’s fourth overall and first since 2000. At his first GARC Championships, transfer Campriani won the smallbore, air rifle and combined score titles, and the Mountaineers earned 18 All-GARC honors, including eight first-team awards. Hammond was named the GARC Coach of the Year, his second distinction in three seasons. WVU concluded the 2010 campaign with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships; the Mountaineers, ranked No. 1 in the nation for the majority of the season, finished third in smallbore and fifth in air rifle. WVU placed two in the smallbore finals, and following the championships, seven student-athletes earned 12 All-America honors.

THE EARLY YEARS Hammond made a name for himself in the coaching ranks in 2009, as he took a young, rising WVU squad to the NCAA Championships and returned with the program’s 14th trophy. A season that was built on momentum, WVU went 11-1 overall, earned its first No. 1 CRCA ranking in over a decade, had seven student-athletes earn NRA All-America honors, improved its GARC standing and finished second at the league championship, captured the nation’s air rifle championship and won the aforementioned NCAA title. The Mountaineers’ 2009 national-title run was especially noteworthy given the pressure the team overcame. After a poor smallbore showing on the championships’ first day, WVU found itself in sixth place. Hammond’s team regrouped and put forth a strong air rifle showing, with all four competitors finishing in the top 10. Additionally, Hammond’s squad was strong at the 2009 GARC Championships, as Tommy Santelli finished first overall, second in air rifle and fifth in smallbore. In total, WVU had seven top-10 finishes between the two disciplines. For his efforts all season, Hammond earned his first CRCA Coach of the Year honor.

In only his second year as head coach, Hammond led the 200708 rifle squad to an 8-3 record, a third-place finish at the GARC Championships and a sixth-place standing at the NCAA Championships, the Mountaineers’ first appearance in six seasons. Hammond guided five Mountaineers to NRA smallbore All-America honors that season and also earned individual recognition, as he was named the GARC Coach of the Year and listed as the 2008 NRA Distinguished College Coach. Hammond took over the Mountaineer rifle program upon the retirement of long-time coach Marsha Beasley in 2006. That season, he guided the 2006-07 team to its first winning record (6-4) since 2003. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS A strong proponent for achievement at the range and in the classroom, Hammond’s shooters have proven to be well-rounded student-athletes. Since his arrival in the fall of 2006, 72 Mountaineers have earned a spot on the annual CRCA All-Academic Honor List, including a program-best eight student-athletes in 2015, 2016 and 2018. The Mountaineers also have been well represented on the annual CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Teams, with at least one student-athlete earning an honor in each of the last nine seasons. Gratz became the first Mountaineer to earn two career first-team accolades, as she was named to the Women’s At-Large First Team in 2017 and 2018. Four different Mountaineers have claimed first-team honors. Also in 2018, Thrasher landed on the women’s second team for the second straight year, and Will Anti earned his second career men’s all-district award. Gratz also was honored by the NCAA in her final two seasons, as she won back-to-back NCAA Elite 90 Award honors, the program’s first recognitions. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Responsible for restoring the glory and tradition to the storied WVU rifle program, Hammond has recruited not only elite athletes to compete in the Gold and Blue, but he also has continued to teach and foster his team’s talents so each student-athlete is a stronger competitor upon graduation. Athletic accolades and recognitions go hand-in-hand with such advancements.

ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS In addition to his busy coaching schedule, Hammond competed for more than a decade for the Great Britain National Team. Hammond started shooting when he was nine years old. As a junior, Hammond won both domestic and international honors, highlighted by the 50m rifle prone World Junior Champion title in Barcelona in 1998. Hammond has competed in a wealth of senior international competitions since then, including the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics representing Great Britain. He also has competed in numerous ISSF World Cups throughout the world as well as the last two ISSF World Championships in 2010 and 2014. One of his highlights was representing Scotland at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, where he became the most successful Scottish Athlete in a single Commonwealth Games, winning four medals – two Gold, one Silver and one Bronze. PRIOR TO COACHING AT WVU Hammond earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Leeds while competing for its rifle team. Hammond then journeyed to West Virginia to spend the 2002-03 season competing for the WVU rifle team while working toward his master’s degree in sport management. Hammond returned to Morgantown in 2006 and began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant with the Mountaineers. In addition to his highly successful career as a shooter, Hammond also has volunteered his time to help others. While a member of the Leeds squad, he helped coach beginning shooters and assisted the team with organizational tasks. Hammond also helped initiate Blind Shooting in Scotland with his father. He worked closely with a group from the Grampian Society for the Blind to teach basic rifle techniques. He gave the shooters positional and mental advice and undertook the task of raising funds for all of the equipment, as well as organizing a venue to hold the club’s matches. Hammond is married to the former Lindsay Brooke. They have three sons, Lewis and twins, Archie and Hugh.

The Mountaineers have earned a combined 141 All-America honors, including 69 first-team recognitions, since Hammond became head coach. The 2015 National Champion team earned 23 All-America honors, a program-high under Hammond. Following a four-year drought, five Mountaineers scored five AllAmerica honors in 2008, including first-team recognition for Lafe Kunkel and Brandi Eskew. Hammond’s leadership also propels the Mountaineers toward fruitful futures. Four Mountaineers competed at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, including 2016 NCAA champion Thrasher, who won the first Gold medal of the games with a victory for the United States in the women’s 10m air rifle. Additionally, Campriani pushed his individual Olympic medal count to four with Gold-Medal showings in the men’s 10m air rifle and 50m rifle 3 positions. He previously won Gold in the men’s 50m 3 positions and Silver in the men’s 10m air rifle at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Four Mountaineers competed at the 2014 ISSF World Championships, including a USA Junior Team invite for Spurgeon. Additionally, Bryant Wallizer was invited to train at the US Olympic Training Center immediately following his 2010 graduation.

The entire season is a build up to the 2019 NCAA Championships at the WVU Coliseum, which will be the first national championship in any sport hosted by West Virginia University. As the winningest program in NCAA history, this may be a bit overdue and a highly anticipated event. Knowing that the season can be long, how do you temper the team’s excitement? With the history of this program, to not only host the NCAA Championships but to also be the first final site of an NCAA Championships for West Virginia University is incredibly exciting for our team, our supporters, the WVU Athletic Department and the entire University. I hope this can be a big and great event. Our season will be a lead up to the championships, and our team will need to stay in a bubble as best it can. We’ll need to be conscious of the bubble and keep it smaller and tighter throughout the season. It will be tougher as we get closer to the end of the season, but we’ve had practice. The team is excited, and we hope to have a lot of alumni come back to Morgantown and watch the championships. I think it will be a fantastic way to end the season.

Academically, you lost a great leader in Elizabeth Gratz, the two-time NCAA Elite 90 Award winner. This team always prides itself on its academic success – how do you help the student-athletes find a balance? Will and Ginny are two of our outstanding students, too. Those two have always competed throughout their years. As our senior leaders, they’re going to want to continue to set the example, both through their actions and their expectations for their teammates. They have high academic standards and they’re incredibly smart. They both work very hard, and they put the hours in to do well. They care about their grades, and I think they will set the example and expectation for this team. It’s a great strength for both.

This season, you will travel to TCU in the fall and to Kentucky, the reigning NCAA champion, in the spring. Those are always two of your tougher matches. How will those matches in tougher environments help the team prepare for the postseason? Those matches will challenge this team, and that’s something we’re always hoping to do. We want to shoot against the best teams, and we want to put our team in challenging, difficult situations. Shooting against two of the best teams on the road will push this squad. What types of leadership qualities will seniors Will Anti and Ginny Thrasher bring to the team this year, and what are your expectations for them? I think they will both play an important leadership role, as seniors always do. Will is our team captain, and I think he has really matured and grown over the last few years. He has a great relationship with his teammates, and they really respect him. I think he’s going to be able to motivate them and challenge them. I expect him to put his own imprint on this team. Ginny also is going to play an important role. She really sets a great example in how she competes and trains. Her commitment to everything she does is second-tonone. The two of them together is a great leadership combination. I think they’ll be able to work well together. I think Ginny has a lot to offer the younger team members – she will support them while also pushing the upperclassmen. Senior captain WILL ANTI

Seven student-athletes return for the team this season – what did they learn last year, and how will the way the season ended impact their outlook in 2018-19? As a team, we learned a lot last year. We had some really great matches, and we had some struggles. I think everyone had personal challenges, too. We learned perseverance and how to put things in perspective, as well as patience, too. Everyone wants success immediately, and you should learn how to manage expectations when things don’t go your way. We’re an older team this season. We have a good core of upperclassmen. We had a wonderful season last year – we had a lot of success and saw a lot of improvement. We dealt with disappointment at the end, and we had to deal with a lot of different emotions, but I think it all will work in our benefit this year. We will still take things day-by-day and week-by-week. We want to slowly improve and not get ahead of ourselves. We want to do it in a fun way with a good group. We had a great team spirit last year, and we look to carry that on this year. Morgan Phillips is the two-time reigning NCAA smallbore champion. How does she take all the success she has earned in-stride? I think Morgan does a really good job of keeping her feet on the ground. She does really well with her ego – whether it’s a good match or a bad match, she doesn’t let the result impact her or her ego. She’s able to move on easily.

Like everyone, Morgan is competitive, wants to do well and works hard. She’s found a good place, mentally, and can deal with it. She is in a groove, and as she grows and matures, she’s learning a lot more about herself and how to deal with everything. This team is comprised of world-class shooters – Olympic Gold medalists, National Champions and more. Everyone is competitive, too. How does this competitiveness fuel the team’s success? It helps, but only if managed. We stress that the team comes first, and you have to support your teammates. Absolutely, they’re competitive. A lot of the women on this team will compete against each other at national and international matches. Ginny and Morgan have lined up against each other in finals for so many years, and (sophomore) Sarah (Osborn) is about to join them at a lot of national finals. Internationally, (junior) Milica (Babic) is doing great, too. We’re OK with this team’s competitiveness – you have to have that fire. It’s OK to want to beat one of your teammates because it gives you motivation and drive. You have to be able to accept your teammate’s success, too, and be happy after the fact. They’re all competitors – that’s why they’re here – and they also should continue to support each other. We have to embrace the competitiveness. You need step away from it at moments, too. It’s not easy but very doable.

Freshman Jared Eddy joins the team this fall. What role do you see him taking with the team this year? I’m excited for Jared to join us this season. He has a lot of enthusiasm, and his work ethic and passion for the sport are great. I think he’s really looking forward to being able to train every day and to compete alongside quality competitors. Like a lot of high schoolers, college opens a lot of opportunities, and I know Jared is enthusiastic about this type of environment. He’ll be very motivated. Jared comes into a great situation as a freshman. There aren’t any expectations for him – the first year will be a development year and a chance for me to assess and get to know him. He’s a blank canvas with a lot of potential. That’s exciting for a coaching staff; equally, I think he is as excited and motivated to work. Jared will add a lot to this team. The team unveiled the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range in February 2018. What advantages does the range bring the team, and how does this program continue to grow and evolve? I think we always need to strive for improvements and see where we can make things better. The mobile range was a massive step forward, and we could host an awesome GARC Championships because of it. I always think there are still improvements to make to the mobile range, and that will continue to evolve. We also are making improvements to the WVU Rifle Range, too – we’re putting in new targets to match the mobile range. There are always facility upgrades to be made. When you talk about evolving and improving, a lot of that is placed on myself and (graduate assistant) Soren (Butler). We are constantly looking for new things to work on and new things for a team focus. This team changes every season. Everyone is a year older. We must continue to learn as coaches – new ways to motivate, coach and learn ourselves. It’s an on-going process.

MORGAN PHILLIPS

Many of the Mountaineers competed on the national and international scene over the summer. How does this experience help the student-athletes grow and develop? The international competitions give these studentathletes great experiences and are wonderful learning opportunities. I know everyone who shot over the summer gained a lot of confidence, too. Specifically, I think Morgan made a name for herself this summer and proved she can shoot with some of the sport’s elite. Equally, Sarah came on strong this summer and really improved. She was doing a lot of great work and a lot of hard work throughout her freshman season; I just think it took some time for all of that to click into place. She competed well with her age group on a world level, and that should give her a great deal of confidence and the knowledge that all the hard work she’s put in has been beneficial. That’s what we focus on – the outcome and the process, and not so much the immediate results. The team will experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip this season, as you will spend two weeks training in South Africa in late December, early January. How did this experience arise, and what benefits will this trip provide? I’ve been wanting to take the team on a foreign tour for many years now. This is a wonderful experience that sets this program apart from many others. This will be an amazing experience for these student-athletes and will help with our mid-season training. We have a few international student-athletes on our team this year, and I think this trip to South Africa will be unique and special for everyone. I have been to South Africa and have a little knowledge about what we are getting into, and I know this will be a really unique trip we’ll remember always.

Raymond Prior enters his ninth season as a performance consultant with the West Virginia University rifle team. A peak performance professional, Prior provides mental training services for the Mountaineers designed to help the team and its members build mindsets that promote more confident and consistent performances and a richer enjoyment of performance. The author of Bullseye Mind: Mental Toughness for Sport Shooting, Prior also works with coaches and athletes at the Professional, Olympic, NCAA, amateur and youth sports levels. His clients also include non-sport performers including Grammy winners, Oscar winners and Emmy winners in cinema, television and music. A native of Sandia Park, New Mexico, Prior earned his Ph.D in sport & exercise psychology and an M.A. in community counseling at West Virginia University in 2014 and 2013, respectively. He also earned a master’s degree in exercise & sport sciences from Ithaca College in (2011). A former member of the United States National Soccer Development Team, Prior played collegiately at the University of New Mexico and earned bachelor degrees in communication & journalism and psychology.

A native of Casselton, North Dakota, Soren Butler enters his second season as a graduate assistant. With Butler’s help in 2017-18, the Mountaineers finished second at the NCAA Championships with a 4708 score and also won the air rifle title with a 2381 total. Additionally, Morgan Phillips won her second straight NCAA smallbore title, becoming just the second WVU student-athlete to win back-to-back smallbore championships. WVU claimed its fifth straight Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) regular-season crown and won its ninth straight GARC Championship. Ginny Thrasher swept the GARC individual titles, pushing her career title count to three, and Elizabeth Gratz was named the GARC Outstanding Senior. The Mountaineers finished the 2017-18 season at 13-0 (9-0 GARC), the team’s third straight undefeated season and fourth unblemished record in five years. Additionally, WVU set the NCAA records for aggregate score (4742) and smallbore score (2356) in a win at Murray State on Nov. 12, 2017. A four-year letterwinner at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Butler was a two-time NRA All-American with the Nanooks. He shot at the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Championships, where he finished tied for eighth overall in smallbore (582) and air rifle (592). Butler also claimed the Patriot Rifle Conference smallbore title championship as a senior, shooting a career-high 589 at the championships. The 2016-17 team co-captain and MVP, he won the Nanooks’ Joe Tremarello Sportsmanship Award in consecutive seasons (2015-16 and 2016-17). He finished his collegiate shooting career with highs of 594 air rifle and 589 smallbore. Butler is working toward a master’s degree in sport management. He earned his Masters of Business Administration M.B.A from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in May 2017. Butler earned his bachelor’s degree in general business in May 2016.

A COLISEUM CHAMPIONSHIP

For the first time in program history, the nation-best 19time NCAA National Champion WVU rifle team will host the NCAA Championships. The two-day competition will take place March 8-9, at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Coliseum. The rifle program is the first WVU team to host a national final in school history. The Mountaineers have won six NCAA titles under 13year coach Jon Hammond, including five straight from 2013-17. WVU finished second in 2018 with a 4708 total. The Mountaineers claimed their sixth consecutive air rifle National Championship with a winning 2381 total. Additionally, Morgan Phillips won her second individual smallbore title in as many years with a 459.4 showing in the final.

CORE RETURNS

Seven letter winners return for the Mountaineers this season: seniors Will Anti and Ginny Thrasher, juniors Milica Babic and Morgan Phillips and sophomores Noah Barker, David Koenders and Sarah Osborn.

Combined, this group owns two team NCAA National Championships, five individual NCAA titles, three Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) regular-season titles and three GARC Championships titles. Thrasher, Babic, Phillips and Koenders combined for 12 All-America honors last season.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP

A pair of seniors will guide the Mountaineers this season in team captain Will Anti and Ginny Thrasher. Not only solid competitors on the range, the duo also sets the standard academically. Thrasher is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honoree, while Anti has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in each of the last two seasons. Thrasher, the 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist in womenâ€™s 10m air rifle, paced the Mountaineers in both disciplines last year with season averages of 586 smallbore and 596.6 air rifle. She also swept the GARC individual titles.

EDDY JOINS MOUNTAINEERS

Columbus, Georgia, native Jared Eddy, a two-time Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) National Championship participant, joins the Mountaineers for the 2018-19 season. Eddy most recently finished eighth in the junior men’s 50m rifle 3-positions at the 2018 USA Shooting National Championships. He also placed 24th in the overall competition and finished second in the High Collegiate B category with a 2280 mark. In the junior men’s air rifle competition, Eddy finished 16th and also placed second in the High Collegiate B category. A two-time captain of the Columbus High rifle team, Eddy finished second at the 2018 Georgia State Championships.

LUCKY NO. 13

C oach Jon Hammond returns for his 13th season with the Mountaineers in 2018-19. A former Mountaineer student-athlete and a two-time Olympian, Hammond has returned the WVU rifle program to national glory. Under his guidance, the Mountaineers have won six national championships in 10 seasons, 10 individual NCAA titles and nine consecutive GARC Championships. Additionally, the program has produced five undefeated seasons, 141 All-Americans and 13 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.

CHALLENGING PATH

The Mountaineers’ 2018-19 schedule features six of the team’s seven opponents from the 2018 NCAA National Championships, including matches at Kentucky, the reigning National Champion, and thirdplace finisher TCU. The schedule also features eight home matches, including the 2019 NCAA National Championships set for March 8-9, at the WVU Coliseum. All home matches will be held at the WVU Rifle Range or at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building or the WVU Coliseum. WVU opens its season and the defense of its five straight GARC titles at Akron on Sept. 29. The Zips will host the GARC Championships on Feb. 23-24. The Mountaineers’ fall schedule is highlighted by two, three-way matches at the WVU Coliseum on Oct. 20-21. WVU will face Ohio State and Murray State on Saturday, Oct. 20, and Nebraska and Air Force on Sunday, Oct. 21.

The West Virginia University rifle team finished its 2017-18 season placing second at the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships, held on March 9-10 inside The Citadel’s McAlister Field House in Charleston, South Carolina. After an undefeated regular season (13-0, 8-0 GARC), the rifle team claimed the program’s ninth straight Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) title with an aggregate total of 4699 on Feb. 25, at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building. Although the Mountaineers didn’t capture the NCAA Championship title, the 2017-18 season was still among the program’s most successful. “The team really moved forward, and we had a great season. We really want to make sure that our season is not defined by one day at NCAA,” Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond said. “We want to look at all the positives and all the great things that we did do this season and take those and move forward.”

MOUNTAINEERS FINISH SECOND

The top-ranked WVU rifle team delivered a championship-worthy performance at the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships with an aggregate score of 4708, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Kentucky.

On the first day of competition, the Mountaineers trailed Kentucky with a 2327 smallbore score, 18 shots short of first place. On day two, WVU claimed its sixth straight air rifle national title with a 2381 total but fell short of achieving the overall championship title. The Mountaineers finished in second place with an aggregate score of 4708, nine points behind the Wildcats’ 4717 aggregate score. Senior Elizabeth Gratz, junior Ginny Thrasher, sophomores Morgan Phillips and Milica Babic and redshirt-freshman David Koenders made up the counting team for WVU at the championship. Phillips entered the smallbore final in eighth place, shooting a 584 total. She fought to defend her 2017 NCAA smallbore title and succeeded with a final score of 459.4. She placed 10th in the air rifle discipline with a 592 finish. Gratz placed 22nd overall in smallbore with a 579 mark. In air rifle, she was the eighth student-athlete to make the final with a score of 594 and finished second with a 247.3 score. Thrasher tied for a 10th-place finish in smallbore with a 582 mark. In the air rifle final, Thrasher placed third with a 226.4 score after qualifying with a 597 mark.

Babic also tied for 10th place in smallbore with a 582 score. She entered the air rifle final in first place with a score of 598 and finished sixth with a 163.8 final mark. Koenders placed 36th with a smallbore score of 575. He finished 13th overall in air rifle with a 591 total.

MOUNTAINEERS RECOGNIZED WITH ALL-AMERICA HONORS Five from the WVU rifle team earned a combined 15 All-America honors after competing at the 2018 NCAA National Championships.

Thrasher collected three first-team honors as she was named to the NRA All-America Air Rifle and Smallbore First Teams, as well as the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Combined Score First Team. Thrasher has earned nine career All-America honors and eight first-team accolades. Another Mountaineer also received three first-team honors, as Babic was named to the NRA All-America Air Rifle and Smallbore First Teams, as well as the CRCA Combined Score First Team. Babic owns six career All-America honors and four first-team accolades. Gratz rounded out her final year as a Mountaineer with three All-America awards. She was named to the NRA Air Rifle First Team, the NRA Smallbore Second Team and the CRCA Combined Score Third Team. Gratz finished her career with 12 All-America honors and five first-team accolades. Phillips added three awards to her AllAmerica count. She was named to the NRA Smallbore First Team, the NRA Air Rifle Second Team and the CRCA Combined Score Second Team. Phillips has earned two career first-team accolades. Koenders finished his first season as a Mountaineer with three All-America awards as he was named to the NRA Air Rifle and Smallbore First Teams, as well as the CRCA Combined Score Second Team.

WVU CLAIMS 2018 GARC CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN

After an undefeated regular season, the Mountaineers defended their conference title at the 2018 GARC Championship, held Feb. 24-25, at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building. The team started the championship on top with a 14-point lead, shooting a smallbore score of 2333. On the final day of competition, the Mountaineers shot an air rifle score of 2366, pushing their aggregate score to 4699 to capture the program’s ninth straight GARC title.

During the championship, six Mountaineers counted toward the team’s scores. Thrasher, Phillips, Gratz and Koenders counted in both disciplines, while sophomore Sarah Osborn counted toward WVU’s smallbore score, and junior Will Anti counted toward the team’s air rifle total.

Thrasher claimed her second career GARC smallbore title on the first day of competition with a 454.8 mark. The next day, Thrasher earned her second straight air rifle title with a 250.7 final score. Combined, she has claimed four GARC titles in three seasons. Phillips finished second in the smallbore discipline with a 453.9 score and placed second in air rifle with a final score of 247.7. Gratz shot a 396.4 mark and placed seventh in smallbore and finished 14th overall in air rifle with a 590 mark. Koenders placed 10th in smallbore with a 579 total, and he came in 21st place in air rifle with a 588 total. Anti placed 19th in the smallbore discipline with a 576 score, and he finished 16th in air rifle with a 589 score. Osborn tied for 21st in smallbore with a 575 total, and with her air rifle final’s score of 182.4, she finished fifth overall. In the smallbore discipline, redshirt-freshman Noah Barker shot 569 and sophomore Jack Anderson shot 565. In air rifle, Barker shot a 589 mark in and Anderson shot a 579. On the eve of the competition, WVU hosted the GARC Championship Banquet at Touchdown Terrace inside Milan Puskar Stadium. Gratz was named the GARC Outstanding Senior, an award that celebrates one senior in the conference who has excelled throughout his or her undergraduate experience. In addition to the Outstanding Senior honor, she also was named the Mountaineers’ GARC Scholar Athlete for the fourth straight year. Of the 10 combined All-GARC Smallbore and Air Rifle First Team honors, eight were claimed by the Mountaineers. Thrasher, Babic and Koenders were named to both teams. Phillips was named to the smallbore first team, and Gratz was named to the air rifle first team. Gratz also was named to the All-GARC Smallbore Second Team, while Phillips landed on the All-GARC Air Rifle Second Team. Additionally, Anti and Osborn were named to the All-GARC Air Rifle Honorable Mention Team.

On Sept. 30, WVU set its first NCAA record of the season against Ohio State with its 2390 air rifle score. The Mountaineers’ air rifle total bested the team’s previous national record of 2388, shot on Jan. 17, 2016. The Mountaineers shot an NCAA air rifle record for the second time this season on Oct. 21 against Ole Miss with their score of 2392, which was two shots better than their record shot on Sept. 30. Closing their fall slate in a dominant manner, the Mountaineers shot an NCAA record aggregate score 4742 in a win over Murray State on Nov. 12, inside the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky. The Mountaineers bested their own national record of 4740, previously shot in a win over Akron on Jan. 17, 2016. WVU also shot an NCAA record smallbore score 2356 against the Racers. “To break all three team records throughout the year and not all on one day, but on different occasions, makes our team average probably the highest average that we’ve had throughout a season,” Hammond added.

STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY

One of the highlights of the 2017-18 season was the unveiling of the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range. In early 2017, the WVU rifle team and the Mountaineer Athletic Club launched the WVU Mobile Rifle Range project. Various loyal Mountaineer supporters stepped up to contribute to this project, including Mountaineer legend Bill McKenzie. Known for his game-winning field goal kick against Pitt in the Mountaineers’ 17-14 victory on Nov. 8, 1975, McKenzie donated $100,000 toward the mobile range project to ensure the rifle team’s future success. This project came to life when the Mountaineers competed at the range for the first time during their match against Kentucky on Feb. 11. That same day, the rifle team earned the 2018 GARC regular-season title with a 4720-4693 victory. The Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range includes 20 3D electronic target systems, featuring

crossfire detection and zero consumables of paper or rubber bands. The range also features 20 bullet catchers and surrounding walls, which will create a safe range area, allowing for competition in any arena. A fan favorite, the range also includes large projector screens that provide shot-by-shot coverage. The range allows the Mountaineers to host large-scale events, such as the 2019 NCAA National Championships, and will help the team simulate championship experiences to better prepare the student-athletes.

FOUR YEARS OF DEDICATION

Gratz helped guide the Mountaineers with her role as the team captain during her final year in the program. After four years on the WVU rifle team, she ended her career with multiple prestigious honors. With her 4.0 grade point average (GPA), she earned the sport of rifle’s top academic honor for the second straight season, as she was named the Elite 90 Award winner for NCAA Division 1 Rifle. On the last day of the NCAA Championships, her skills were showcased as she placed second in the air rifle final with a 247.3 score. “It was really special to receive the award. I didn’t really know I was going to get it so it felt pretty cool,” Gratz said.

A SPECIAL VISIT

The WVU rifle team joined 18 collegiate teams at NCAA Champions Day at the White House on Nov. 17, 2017, in Washington, D.C. This was the Mountaineers’ second trip to the White House in four years and a celebration of their nation-best 19th NCAA National Championship achieved during the 2016-17 season. The Mountaineers enjoyed an extensive tour of the White House before meeting with President Donald Trump and Secretary of Education Betsy Devos. “I was delighted for the team members to experience something like NCAA Champions Day, as it’s a rare, unique opportunity,” said Hammond.

RECORD-BREAKING SEASON

Throughout the Mountaineers’ successful year, they set multiple team records with their undeniable work ethic and championship attitude. Two of the teams’ best competitors, Gratz and Thrasher, helped pace the team with their high averages and their accomplishment of a perfect mark. Thrasher shot a perfect 600 air rifle score on Nov. 5, 2017, against Army West Point, becoming the second Mountaineer on the team to achieve the mark. The first individual was Gratz, who shot the perfect score at Kentucky on Feb. 11, 2017.

Dr. E. Gordon Gee is one of America’s most prominent higher education leaders, having served as president of some of the most prestigious public and private universities for more than three decades. When he returned to lead West Virginia University in 2014 as the institution’s 24th president, it was a homecoming of sorts. He was first named WVU president in 1981 at age 36 – at the time, among the youngest persons to ever serve as a university president. He led West Virginia University until 1985 when he went on to presidencies at the University of Colorado (1985-90), Brown University (1998-2000) and Vanderbilt University (2001-07). He served as president of The Ohio State University from 1990-97 and again from 2007-13. On his return to the Morgantown campus, he said, “This is not a job to me; it is a calling.” His leadership style bears that out as he works tirelessly to advance the University’s land-grant mission and open doors to the American dream. In one of his latest addresses to the University community, he noted that for 150 years, the institution has been a polar star guiding West Virginians toward a brighter tomorrow. He said, “That is why, in this milestone year, we recommit our University to living the values that drive our work. Serving our students and our state is not just our duty — it is our passion.” Gee has built a special relationship with the students as well as the state’s citizens, making it a point to visit students where they live, learn and socialize – and visiting all 55 West Virginia counties during his inaugural year – and at least half in subsequent years. Born in Vernal, Utah, Gee graduated from the University of Utah with an honors degree in history and earned his J.D. and Ed.D. degrees from Columbia University. He clerked under Chief Justice David T. Lewis of the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals before being named a judicial fellow and staff assistant to the U.S. Supreme Court. In this role, he worked for Chief Justice Warren Burger on administrative and legal problems of the Court and federal judiciary. Gee returned to Utah as an associate professor and associate dean in the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, and was granted full professorship in 1978. One year later, he became dean of the WVU College of Law, and, in 1981, was named WVU’s 19th president. Gee has served on several education-governance organizations and committees, including the Big 12 Conference Council of Presidents, the Business Higher Education Forum and the American Association of Universities. He is past chair of the American Council on Education’s Commission on Higher Education Attainment and formerly served as co-chair of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ Energy Advisory Committee. In 2009, King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia invited him to join its international advisory board. In 2009, Time magazine named him one of the top 10 university presidents in the United States. Gee is currently serving as chair of the Big 12 Board of Directors Executive Committee and is a member of Forward 50, an initiative working toward student equity, success and outcomes. Last summer, working with Department of Commerce and Marshall University officials, he was instrumental in establishing the West Virginia Forward initiative to bring together state and local leaders in providing a blueprint for alignment and focus on solutions for a united and prosperous West Virginia. It quickly developed into a larger effort with policymakers, experts and government officials working together to formulate results-driven policy to help strengthen and diversify all regions of the state. Active in many national professional and service organizations, he is on the executive committee of the National 4-H Council Board of Trustees as well as on the Board of Trustees of the Royal University for Women in Bahrain, with which West Virginia University has a long-standing academic partnership. A recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, he is an executive board member of Boy Scouts of America. He has also served on the boards for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Limited Brands. In 2011, Gee began serving as secretary on the Board of Directors of Ohio’s economic development program, JobsOhio. In 2011-12, Governor John Kasich asked him to chair the Ohio Higher Education Capital Funding Collaborative and the Ohio Higher Education Funding Commission. In December 2012, he began serving on the Columbus Education Commission.

Gee has received many honorary degrees, awards, fellowships and recognitions over the years. He is a fellow of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest science organization. In 1994, Gee received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Utah, as well as from Teachers College of Columbia University. In 2013, he received the ACE Council of Fellows/Fidelity Investments Mentor Award and the Outstanding Academic Leader of the Year Award on behalf of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He is the co-author of over a dozen books, including his two most recent, “Leading Colleges and Universities” and “Land-Grant Universities for the Future.” He has also authored many papers and articles on law and education. Gee is engaged to Laurie Erickson, leader of the Erickson Foundation. Gee’s daughter, Rebekah, is Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health. In addition to that role, she is a practicing gynecologist and Gratis Faculty at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Rebekah Gee is married to David Patrón and they have five children.

DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS SHANE LYONS ASSOCIATE VICE-PRESIDENT

In his fourth year as the director of athletics at West Virginia University, Shane Lyons has a clear vision for his athletic program. It’s a vision that focuses on the betterment of more than 500 student-athletes and the day-to-day needs that will help them succeed in the classroom and in competition. His open lines of communications have made him a popular role model for WVU athletes, and his honest, fair and caring approach has energized an entire department. Whether it’s regularly scheduled meetings with the student-athletes or his open-door office policy, Lyons has his finger on the pulse of his student-athletes, coaches and staff. His endless energy is devoted to his facilities master plan that will keep West Virginia a strong Power 5 institution and position his department for growth and continued success. Lyons’ facilities master plan isn’t about keeping up with the Joneses, it’s about taking what his department has, improving it and making it complete for the student-athlete. From training, nutrition, medical and competitiveness, Lyons’ vision is for future success, building winning programs and enhancing the overall WVU student-athlete experience. Lyons is about results, and he has already left a great deal of accomplishments in his rear view mirror. He spearheaded and finished more than $100 million in fan enhancements to Milan Puskar Stadium and the WVU Coliseum, broke ground on a $45 million aquatic and track center in Morgantown, completed phase two of Coliseum renovations, bringing the arena up to current ADA seating code, and for the first-time ever, introduced a second video board to Milan Puskar Stadium to provide information and improve fan entertainment. Overseeing 18 varsity sports, a self-sustaining department budget of more than $93 million and 250 employees, Lyons’ leadership has also guided WVU to unparalleled success in the classroom as the department recorded an impressive overall 3.2 GPA in 2018. And, with the student-athlete in mind, he has implemented a Clinical and Sport Psychology unit with a full-time director and professional interns, added specialized learning assistants to the Student-Athlete Development unit and entered into a partnership with WVU Medicine’s Neuroscience Department to assist in the training and recovery of student-athletes, all emphasizing his overall commitment to the well-being and performance student-athletes. Ask him and he’ll tell you it’s not his department, but West Virginia’s department, and he can tell you his vision to improve it not only for the coming year, but for three, five, seven and 10 years down the road. He cares and the proof lies in what he has already accomplished in three years. Additionally, his work with WVU President E. Gordon Gee’s senior leadership team, as well as the Big 12 Conference and other national committees, has brought additional respect and positive exposure to his department and the University. He currently serves on the Big 12 Administration Committee, Finance and Budget Committee and the Game Management and Officiating Subcommittee. In 2018, he chaired the overall athletic directors committee for the Big 12, was named again to the NCAA Division I Council and will serve as chair of the NCAA Division I Football Oversite Committee. He is also on the board of directors for Mylan Park in Morgantown. Lyons came to West Virginia after spending three years as the deputy director of athletics and chief operating officer at Alabama where he worked closely on day-to-day strategic leadership and direction of the Crimson Tide Athletic program. During his time at Alabama, his responsibilities included oversight of a $120 million budget, management of the day-to-day operations of the department and oversight of the Crimson Tide’s 21 sports teams. In addition, he played a pivotal role in a historic renegotiation of Alabama’s multimedia rights agreement that started in 2014 and was involved in several significant capital projects totaling more than $85 million. The Crimson Tide won seven national titles in five different sports during his time there – two in football, two in men’s golf, one in women’s golf, one in gymnastics and one in softball. He also played a critical role in the hiring of four Alabama head coaches. Prior to joining the Alabama staff in November 2011, Lyons spent 10 years as an associate commissioner at the Atlantic Coast Conference. At the ACC, Lyons focused on conference-wide compliance and academic initiatives, providing direct assistance to the conference’s presidents, chancellors and athletics directors in matters dealing with NCAA regulatory matters. In addition, he served as the ACC’s human resource manager and was responsible for the administration, negotiation and mediation of the employee benefits program and managing the conference’s organizational policies and procedures. He was part of the senior administrative team for ACC events, including the football championship game, the men’s basketball tournament and men’s and women’s NCAA basketball events. Prior to working at the ACC, Lyons served as associate athletics director for compliance at Big 12 member Texas Tech from 1998 to 2001. During that time, Lyons assumed responsibility for the leadership, administration and implementation of a

comprehensive NCAA compliance program with emphasis toward rules education and extensive monitoring systems. He also served as oversight administrator for several of the Red Raiders’ athletic teams and had financial and operational supervision of the strength and conditioning, nutritional and sports medicine units. Before joining Texas Tech, Lyons worked at the NCAA for almost 10 years as a senior membership services representative, where he was responsible for the oversight and coordination of rules and interpretations for the 25 membership service representatives and was the staff liaison to various NCAA standing committees. Lyons began his career in college athletics in July 1988 as assistant commissioner of the Big South Conference. With the Big South, he was in charge of conference-wide compliance and championships. A native of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and a graduate of Parkersburg High, Lyons was a standout basketball player for the Big Reds. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sport management from WVU in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Lyons, the University’s 12th athletic director, and his wife, Emily, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, have two children: Cameron and Brooke. Cameron is a member of Terry Bowden’s football team at Akron and Brooke plays volleyball at Morgantown High School. DIRECTIONS TO THE WVU RIFLE RANGE FROM INTERSTATE 79 (NORTH AND SOUTH) »» Take the Star City/WVU exit (155) and follow signs to Morgantown »» Cross the Star City bridge and proceed up Monongahela Boulevard toward the Coliseum. »» The WVU Natatorium is located on the right next to the WVU Coliseum. »» The approximate distance from I-79 to the Coliseum is 1.5 miles FROM INTERSTATE 68 (EAST AND WEST) »» Take the Pierpont Road/Airport exit (7) »» Follow signs to the stadium. At the second traffic light off the interstate, turn left and travel up Easton Hill. »» Count two more traffic lights and turn right onto Route 705 and stay on this highway as it becomes Chestnut Ridge Road (through two more traffic lights). »» To proceed to the Coliseum, go through the second light on 705 and two more traffic lights.
