Three Class of 2014 students awarded Leadership Scholarship
Three WVSOM students were recognized for the leadership they have shown during medical school and for demonstrating the ability to serve as a future leader in the osteopathic profession.
Adele Plazak, Eric Schweller and Soham Dave, each from the Class of 2014, were awarded the Cheryl & Michael Adelman WVSOM Leadership Scholarship during this year’s Spring Awards Ceremony that took place in May.
The students said they are honored to be considered student leaders who can help positively represent WVSOM and the osteopathic profession.
“Over the past few years I have been welcomed into the WVSOM family and have aspired to do my personal best — that includes being the best I can be for my peers and our school as an institution,” Plazak said. “I believe in what WVSOM represents, and I am honored to have the Adelman family’s support on and off campus.”
Schweller is also thankful for the opportunity to help move WVSOM forward. because of the continued support from the administration and staff,” he said. “It is an honor to receive such an award as the Cheryl & Michael Adelman Leadership Scholarship, but the true honor is representing the students and collaborating with the administration to create a better WVSOM community.”
Dave said he is humbled by the generosity of WVSOM administrators who he has worked with during the last three years.
“I’ve had the honor to have the opportunity to work with Drs. Mike and Cheryl Adelman. It’s very gracious of them to award students for leadership because they have cultivated an environment that inspires students to get involved and provide input,” he said. “It means a lot to be selected for an award by leaders that I admire and respect.”
As student leaders the scholarship recipients do not expect recognition for their efforts, but they said, it is reassuring.
“It is encouraging to know that our administration and the WVSOM community supports students who challenge their capabilities beyond the academic realm,” Plazak said.
The students are now in their fourth year of medical school.
