At the WVSOM Alumni Association’s meeting and luncheon in January, Mark Yost, D.O., a member of the association’s board, presented Andrea Nazar, D.O., with the 2024 Honorary Alumni award. A WVSOM faculty member since 1991, she is chair of the school’s Department of Clinical Sciences.

Heather Phillips, D.O., of WVSOM’s Class of 2003, praised Nazar for her compassion and wisdom.

“For decades, Dr. Nazar has poured her heart and soul into WVSOM, and her dedication has not gone unnoticed. Her passion for medicine and medical education is second to none, and we are fortunate to have her as one of our most cherished assets,” Phillips said. “She has impacted thousands of students and, in turn, thousands of patients under their care.”

Nazar also has been recognized in the WVSOM community for work in medical education and nationally for her work as a preceptor. In 2018, Nazar received WVSOM’s President’s Outstanding Faculty Award, presented to a faculty member for excellence in teaching and commitment to osteopathic medical education. In 2020, she was selected to receive a Master Preceptor Award by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

“I am truly honored to be recognized as an honorary WVSOM alumni. It has been a privilege to be part of the medical education of so many students and the experience, which is still happening, is so rewarding. I am grateful to all for this gift,” she said.

As an honorary alumni, Nazar received an engraved brick that will be placed into the Alumni Brick Walk in front of the main building.
