CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids or chemical compounds, found in marijuana and hemp. You are probably already familiar with THC, which is another compound found in the cannabis plant, but unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. Most people have heard an earful about the health benefits of CBD — its effects on stress-response, inflammation, immunity, pain, mood and more, but the question of how and why CBD works, o p e n s a window onto a vast & complex system that science is still making sense of. CBD's actions within the brain and body are quite complicated. It is very likely that the beneficial effects of CBD operate through diverse biological pathways, rather than by a single action. Research is ongoing to fully understand the mechanisms by which CBD relieves ailments such as seizures. CBD directly interacts with several proteins in the body and central nervous system, a few of which are components of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD has an affinity for both the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Our

bodies have several other receptor proteins that participate in the endocannabinoid system, such as GPR3, GPR6, TRPV1 and TRPV2 for example. CBD binds to all of these and its anti-inflammatory and painrelieving effects may occur through these pathways. CBD has some other very important roles outside the ECS. For instance, CBD mildly activates one of the brain's predominant serotonin receptors which may ex p l a i n i t s supposed effects on depression and anxiety. CBD has been shown to significantly reduce inflammation which in turn could reduce pain. IMPORTANT TO TAKE NOTE: If you are taking medication, check with your physician before using a CBD product. Not all CBD products are created equally. Before purchasing a CBD product ask the manufacturer for their 3 rd party test certificate to ensure purity and quality. Written by Dean TrollipBIO NATURALS

ELEMENTS FOR GOOD HEALTH Let us start right at the beginning - 13.8 billion years ago, give or take a few million years. There was an immensely violent and unimaginably beautiful explosion and it lasted for less than one second. Then everything looked like nothing and it would continue to look this way for quite some time. You see the first atoms only formed hundreds of thousands of years later and the first stars only millions of years after that and it is in these ancient stars, most far larger than our own sun, that many of the elements of which we are made, originally formed. Fast forward to 1873 and medical doctor Wilhelm Heinrich SchĂźĂ&#x;ler (1821-1898) publishes the results of his experiments in a German homeopathic journal. In human cells that were reduced to ash, he repeatedly observed the same twelve mineral compounds and realized that all twelve of these 'tissue salts', as they would become known, were essential for optimal wellbeing.

2 Calc Phos (Calcium Phosphate) is the most abundant tissue salt in the body. It assists with the digestion and assimilation of food and is vitally important for the building of all new cells. 3 Calc Sulph (Calcium Sulphate) is a blood purifying tissue salt that helps the liver to remove decaying organic products from the blood stream. 4 Ferrum Phos (Iron Phosphate) is known as the first-aid salt. As an oxygen carrier and antiinflammatory, it supports the immune system and assists in reducing pain, fever, bruising and bleeding. 5 Kali Mur (Potassium Chloride) conditions the blood and mucous membranes and can be considered the ear, nose, throat and lung specialist of the salts. It is often required after using Ferrum Phos to clear the effects of infections. 6 Kali Phos (Potassium Phosphate) is a nerve tonic and de-stress salt. It promotes wellbeing and vitality and assists in concentration and study.

These twelve tissue salts consist of eleven elements all together. Some such as Iron, Calcium and Magnesium are well known individually as essential components of blood, bones and muscle respectively. Others such as Potassium, Oxygen, Chlorine, Silicon, Fluorine, Phosphorus, Sulphur and Sodium prove their worth especially in combination.

The twelve tissue salts are as follows: 1 Calc Fluor (Calcium Fluoride) maintains and restores the elasticity of the connective tissues including the skin, the circulatory, musculoskeletal and digestive systems and strengthens tooth enamel.

7 Kali Sulph (Potassium Sulphate) is a skin, hair and nail conditioner and tissue oxygenator. It should also be used after Ferrum Phos and Kali Mur to clear the last stage of an infection. 8 Mag Phos (Magnesium Phosphate) is a tension and spasmodic pain reliever. It eases headaches and cramps, promotes healthy muscle growth and promotes strong bones and teeth. 9 Nat Mur (Sodium Chloride) is a water distributor, responsible for hydrating the cells and tissues. It reduces swelling and eases insect bites, burns and sunburn. 10 Nat Phos (Sodium Phosphate) is an acid neutralizer, assists in maintaining the pH balance of the body and supports the function of the WUEC Page 6

11 Nat Sulph (Sodium Phosphate) is a liver tonic as well as a fluid and toxin eliminator. It supports the function of the colon, biliary tract and lymphatic systems and is indicated for hangovers and morning sickness. 12 Silicea (Silicon dioxide) strengthens, cleanses and conditions the connective tissues. It helps to maintain healthy skin, hair and nails and assists the body to remove foreign material that the body naturally would seek to eliminate. The tissue salts are present in our food, or should be, when grown organically in mineral-rich soils. Modern agricultural practices rob soils of these life-sustaining minerals and leave them full of chemical fertilizers instead. It is then most often necessary for one to supplement with the individual tissue salts or combinations thereof. The numbers and names of the tissue salts are universal and can easily be found at your local health shop.

The large variety of trees, the veld landscape as well as the Kwelera River, all create unique habitats that a large variety of birds call home. We are truly fortunate in having these varied habitats close by to each other, as it makes bird watching so much easier for the enthusiast and weekend birdwatcher alike. Bird watching is

an easy activity to do and can be done from the comfort of your own home, you do not need to venture far. Encourage birds into your garden, by planting flowers to attract sunbirds, create water features for bathing and drinking. Put up a bird feeder with wild bird seed and enjoy the bird action that you now have attracted into your own garden. Some birds will even take care of those pesky little snails. These are few of the birds that call Areena home and can be quite possibly seen in your own gardens or surrounds. So why not start a check list of your own and see how many birds you can identify. Areena has a great variety of weavers that call our palm trees home and are prolific nest builders. Sometimes stripping the palm leaves bear in order to weave their intricate nests. We are lucky to have both the Pied Kingfisher, which is the black and white Pied variety of kingfisher, for those of you who are not birders, as well as the Giant Kingfisher, which as his Kingfisher name suggests is much larger than the smaller variety. Both of these kingfishers are fantastic birds to watch, darting into the river and the dams to catch a fish they have spotted from above. Not to mention the majestic Fish Eagle, which is often seen circling high above the river, with that unmistakable call he makes. Our wild fig trees are home to the African Green Pigeon and every fruiting season are found in flocks, enjoying the fruits of the tree. They have some neighbours who also enjoy the trees, the Black Collared Barbet with their little red faces and black collars, can be heard building nests in the trunk of the trees. The Burchells Coucal, is also a resident at Areena, his distinct call is normally the signal to look out for this bird Village which is more often heard than seen. Another bird with a Weaver distinctive call is the Scops Owl, this small little owl is a treat to spot in the daytime, as they are strictly nocturnal. WUEC Page 13

I have always been mesmerized by the magical aromatic bubbles that transport us to another world of sheer indulgence, pampering and deep relaxation. Those beautiful fragrant soap bubbles that wash away all our troubles and worries and leave us feeling clean, refreshed and rejuvenated. My soap making journey

to me as the magical bubbles. High quality sustainably sourced and where possible local ingredients were of the utmost importance. There are so many so-called natural soaps on the market that are full of synthetic fragrance and colorants. Just because a soap is hand crafted does not mean it contains natural ingredients. My passion and vision were to create a beautiful bar of soap that ticked all the boxes. My first attempt was a success and I will never forget the sheer joy of feeling those magical bubbles and inhaling the amazing aroma of the essential oils. I eventually had what I have been looking for, right here in my own hands. For me soaping is my meditation, a world where nothing but delicious raw ingredients exist, it's a dance of fusing together what Mother Nature has so abundantly blessed us with, to create something that not only cleanses but brings much enjoyment. I have come a long way since that first bar of soap and I am still experimenting and expanding my soap range.

started six years ago and what an amazing journey it has been. It seemed only natural to try my hand at soap next, as I had been making a range of natural skin and bath products up to then. Soap making was a huge leap for me and a rather scary one too at the time, you see, I love bubbles and I cannot use a bar of soap that doesn't lather. My experience situated in Gonubie with natural soap that I so lovingly purchased whenever I could find it, was almost always a disappointing one with All Natural Products near to no bubbles. My journey started Made with Mother Nature s Abundance and lots of Love with extensive research into ingredients, the chemistry behind soap making and of Handcrafted natural soaps are available from course nature's vast pantry of botanicals, Lime Fusion and Sivana clays and essential oils. This happens all too often in the workplace. Many employers write the employee off their books as “absconded - terminated”. If the employee comes back after a while, they tell him/her they no longer have a job. This is where things start to fall apart for the employer because they are under the false impression that they have a solid case against an absconding employee who goes to the CCMA. 6 BENEFITS OF A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP Here are 6 reasons why you should call it an early night.

1.Sleep Helps the Body Repair Itself. Sleep is a time to relax, but it's also a time during which the body is hard at work repairing damage caused by stress, ultraviolet rays, and other harmful exposure. Your cells produce more protein while you are sleeping. These protein molecules form the building blocks for cells, allowing them to repair the damage.

2 .Sleep May Reduce Your Risk of Depression. Sleep impacts many of the chemicals in your body, including serotonin. People with serotonin deficiencies are more likely to suffer from depression. Ensure to get the right amount of sleep: between 7 - 9 hrs. WUEC Page 26

3.Sleep Reduces Stress. When your body is sleep deficient, it goes into a state of stress. The body's functions go into fight or flight, which causes highblood pressure and the production of stress hormones. High blood pressure increases your risk for heart attack and stroke, and the stress hormones make it more difficult to fall asleep.

4.Sleep Reduces Inflammation. Increased stress hormones caused by lack of sleep raises the level of 3 inflammation in your body. ďťż This creates a greater risk for heart-related conditions, as well as cancer and diabetes. Inflammation is thought to cause the body to deteriorate as we age.

5.Sleep Makes You More Alert. A good night's sleep makes you feel energized and alert the next day. Being engaged and active increases your chances for another good night's sleep. When you wake up feeling refreshed, use that energy to get out into the daylight, do active things, and be engaged with your world. You'll sleep better the next night and increase your daily energy level.

consolidation. During sleep, your body may be resting, but your brain is busy consolidating your day, making connections between sensory input, events, feelings, and memories. Deep sleep is a very important time for your brain to make memories and links, and getting more quality sleep will help you remember and process things better.
