The Urban Marsh
The Urban Marsh is a project to create a ecological community center along the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. Due to its urban context, a major goal of The Urban Marsh was to connect its occupants to the nature which has been developed over. To do so it reintroduced green space and natural topography into the site, as well as introducing boat launches to encourage a personal connection with the water.

Restoring the Site
The Gowanus Canal is one of the most contaminated sites in the US. Because of this, The Urban Marsh was designed around remediation the site, as well as preventing future contamination.

High Tide 2100:
- Low Estimate (15" SLR)
- Mid Estimate (36" SLR)
- High Estimate (75" SLR)
The Gowanus Canal is in a low-lying part of Brooklyn. Because of this the site is prone to flooding, and is at risk of being underwater by 2100. Thus a project on this site must consider how flood conditions will affect the area, including the depositing of hazardous contaminates carried in the water of the canal.

Reintroduction of topography was important to The Urban Marsh, as it bridges the terrestrial and aquatic realms, as well as the natural and man-made. Topography allows for the water to invade the site as the tide changes, and flooding conditions arise, increasing the amount of water which will be absorbed and filtered by the green space. This also holds the additional benefit of creating a visual indication of the waterline, as flooding and sealevel rise will mean that obviously increasing portions of the green space will be submerged.

Rostra
Rostra is a theater in Jersey City, NJ, at the exit of the Grove St PATH Station. Rostra utilizes the inclusivity of public stages and a fully accessible design in order to confer onto the public the percieved importance granted by Roman Architecture.
The full Eastern facade of Rostra is made of stairs and ADA accessable ramps, culminating in a public stage. In doing so Rostra reinforces the idea that it is a building which is for the public, rather than against them.
Galleggiante, floating in Italian, is a project to create a museum dedicated to the artist Canaletto on the Sacca de la Misericordia Marina on the northern edge of Venice Italy. Just as Canaletto’s paintings used architecture as a background for his celebrations of Venetian daily life, Galleggiante seeks to lift itself off of the ground to make room for the public. This maintains the use of the site as a marina, while introducing a number of gathering spaces for public use. In doing so Galleggiante seeks to celebrate the people of Venice, and their life on the water.

Freedom of Movement
Freedom of Movement is a library on Roosevelt Island to commemorate President Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms Speach. In his speach, FDR urged for the American people to overcome their fear to join the war against the Nazis, and create a more just world. To commemorate this, Freedom of Movement represents in its form the fear and want of the time being overcome by the hope for freedom. This is mirrored in its materiality, where the series of concrete cores are split and divided by the occupant’s desire to move through it.
