OPEN26 marks the reopening of Worthing Museum with a free, much-loved communityexhibition celebrating local artists, communities and the Sussex environment.
Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this year’s OPEN focuses on Sustainability, reflecting the museum’s major transformation during its yearlong closure. Artists were invited to submit work for this special exhibition, which is part of our programme of reopening events.
BURPHAM BIG DIG EXHIBITION
Worthing Museum partnered with the Worthing Archaeological Society and residents of Burpham parish to undertake a major series of excavations in 2024 and 2025.
Over thirty test pits were dug in private gardens, with over 15,000 artefacts recovered. This exhibition tells the story of both Burpham and Wepgam villages from the Stone Age, through to today, alongside maps, historic finds and photographs showcasing a community coming together in search of their local heritage.
