We looked at the costs for an all-inclusive cruise to the Caribbean for a couple catching some winter sun next year, comparing a ten-night cruise with a ten-night holiday to the Caribbean.

Over the coming years there is a lot to look forward to in the world of cruising! From new ships to new ship classes, new destination ports and new itineraries for several cruise lines. Cruising in 2023 and beyond is not to be missed!

New ships for 2023 and beyond

Earlier this year, Royal Caribbean introduced a brand-new class of ship, the Icon Class. This new class will be introduced to the cruise line in January 2024, featuring a number of spaces new to Royal Caribbean such as Thrill Island, Surfside, The Hideaway and Suite Neighbourhoods for all to enjoy. This ship will also visit CocoCay in every sailing, Royal Caribbean’s private island, which is a fantastic addition to any itinerary.

Another new class is MSC Cruises’ World Class, first launching in December 2022 with a winter season in the Arabian Gulf. The new class of ship will be powered by LNG and feature ground-breaking environmental technologies, making the future fleet even more environmentally friendly while offering glamourous cruising that appeals to everybody.

New and unique destinations for 2023 and beyond

A number of new destinations and unique ports of call have also been announced for upcoming years on several cruise line itineraries!

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Prima has introduced a new itinerary route, Southampton to Reykjavík. This itinerary visits ports such as Isafjørdur, Akureyri, Olden and other breath-taking ports of call.

Celebrity Infinity® will commence the 2023/24 winter season in the Mediterranean, alongside itineraries featuring ports in Egypt, Israel, and the Canary Islands. Another Celebrity Cruises ship to offer brandnew sailings is Celebrity Apex® , the second ship in the Celebrity Cruises Edge® series. Sailing from

Southampton in 2024, it will be the first of this class to depart from the UK offering hassle-free cruises to destinations across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, including ports in the Norwegian Fjords and Ibiza.

MSC Cruises will be sailing to Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea with sailings in 2023 & 2024 available on-board MSC Orchestra. Red Sea cruises are a great way to explore some of Northern Africa’s most fascinating sites and ports such as Petra, Jeddah, and Safaga.

Azamara has announced an exciting itinerary visiting unique destinations from Dubai to Singapore. Sailing in November 2023, this itinerary

will call at ports such as Dubai, Mumbai, Colombo and other cultural destinations for the ideal longer duration sailing to somewhere truly unique!

Our experiences!

There were many highlights of this trip including our stay in Vancouver, a trip to get up close and personal to the Hubbard Glacier and whale watching in Juneau. A highlight of my journey was my time on board Rocky Mountaineer, before we travelled everyone told me that GoldLeaf is the only way to experience the Rocky Mountaineer and they were right! Rocky Mountaineer promises that their GoldLeaf service offers passengers “Five-star comfort meets five-star views” and they certainly delivered. We were treated to panoramic views whilst sitting comfortably within the full glass dome windows ensuring no obstructions to the expansive views. The scenery was breath taking and the true scale of the landscape and majesty of the surroundings is difficult to capture on camera but the memories will stay with me forever. Along with choosing from a seasonal menu inspired by the local area, we were served by an excellent team of hosts that shared their knowledge of landmarks and wildlife to ensure that we didn’t miss a thing. Having now returned I can look back on my two days on-board Rocky Mountaineer and reflect on what was a fabulous and unique experience that I would recommend to anyone without hesitation. It surpassed all my expectations and truly was a highlight of my trip of a lifetime.

s the world has opened up more to visitors in the post-pandemic world, we take a look at one of our favourite regions: Australasia. Combined as Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Exotic and tropical in equal parts, but unique in their culture, cuisine and natural beauty.

Australia

After two years of closure, Australia reopened its borders in February 2022 to fully vaccinated travellers. Surges of bookings and peaks in search terms for the region showed a huge interest in people who had been waiting for the news and the region began to rebuild its tourist hotspot label as before.

New Zealand

New Zealand took a while longer to reopen its borders, sharing news in March 2022 that the country had a multi-step plan to begin welcoming travellers as before. Since then, New Zealand has started to welcome all travellers and the region stars in a number of Australasian cruise itineraries in 2023 and beyond.

The South Pacific

The South Pacific was one of the last regions to fully reopen, with the island of Vanuatu – a tiny archipelago off Australia’s Queensland coast – only reopening in summer 2022 after more than two years of closure. The region is amongst some of the most postcardperfect ports seen in cruise itineraries with cruise lines including Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean.

All three of these regions create an ideal exploration of the tropical and exotic, from the cityscapes of Australia to the natural beauty of New Zealand and South Pacific paradise.

This vast mountain range stretches an area over 4,000 sq. miles with dramatic scenery, forests and waterfalls each mile. The rugged landscape is situated just west of Sydney in New South Wales and it’s an impressive natural wonder to explore during a visit here. The range is named Blue Mountains due to the blue haze created by the eucalyptus forests in this World Heritage area.

Day 15: Ushuaia

In Ushuaia, view a mix of glaciers, forests and sea, all framed by Mount Martial to the west and Mounts Olivia and Cinco Hermanos to the east. Why Iceland has become the perfect ‘in between’ destination

DOften featured on itineraries cruising to or from Southampton and New York, Iceland has been an up-and-coming destination for a while. Situated just off the tip of Greenland and an almostequal distance from Norway and Scotland, Iceland is the ideal place to change flights or dock your cruise ship while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. efined by dramatic landscapes, glaciers and national parks, the region is home to incredible scenery and natural beauty not often seen elsewhere. It’s because of this, and many other factors, that Iceland is now a destination to visit in itself and less of a stopover alltogether.

Known for its volcanic lands and glaciercarved fjords, some of the best things to experience are within the nature of the destination. Soak in the geothermal baths and spas found across the region, the Blue Lagoon being the most famous only 20 minutes from the airport. Or, explore Iceland’s ancient caves with underground adventures available for all ages to explore.

Aside from natural wonders, Iceland also offers great nightlife in Reykjavik, with plenty of pubs and bars to visit. You can also sample Icelandic craft beers, with the first microbrewery only opening here in 2006! There’s also a Michelin-starred restaurant at Dill, which can also be found in the capital.

Alta, Norway

Alta is a quaint town in Norway and is so popular as it is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis (northern lights). During your time here you can visit the Alta Museum for a whole host of artefacts and it is also situated next to the famous rock carvings which have been listed as a World Heritage Site. Dog sledding is a popular attraction here as you are whisked off into the wilderness by a team of huskies or you can take a guided tour in hunt for the northern lights, and be sure to take your camera as this is one moment you will want to capture forever.

Akureyri is a port city in northern Iceland and is a major fishing centre. There are plenty of sights to be seen here with spectacular waterfalls, magnificent mountains and beautiful streams around every turn. During your time here you can take a tour to Lake Myvatn to see flowing waterfalls or visit the botanical gardens for a relaxing stroll amongst a tranquil atmosphere.

Longyearbyen, Norway

Longyearbyen is situated on Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago. A captivating port of call, Longyearbyen boasts a magnificent backdrop of mountain ranges, sparkling blue waters and animals - such as reindeer and polar bears – can often be seen gracing the land. Situated in the Pacific Ocean, around 1,000km from South America, the Galapagos Islands are a mustsee destination for the avid expedition traveller. The whole experience with Celebrity Cruises exceeded all of my expectations. Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent staff and crew, the dining was incredible and all the tours were carried out to perfection with extremely knowledgeable, friendly adventurists and good sized groups. The whole trip from touching down in Quito to being dropped off back at the airport at the end of the trip was seamless and completely taken care of by Celebrity Cruises, you felt like you were in safe hands from start to finish. My personal highlight of the trip was being able to swim with penguins and even managing to capture one of them on video underwater!

Day 1: Fly from the UK to Baltra and embark Celebrity Flora® Today you will meet Celebrity Flora® in Baltra, where naturalist guides will be waiting to transfer you to this extraordinary ship. Baltra is the region’s main airport which served as a military base during the second World War. From here, you will sail to Daphne Island, an important breeding site for blue-footed boobies and home to sea lions, pelicans and tropical birds which you can spot from your ship.

Day 2: Gardner Bay and Punta Suarez

The beach at Gardner Bay, with its sparkling white sand, offers one of the best places to relax and swim in the Galapagos. It’s home to one of the most important colonies of sea lions in the archipelago and is also a nesting site for sea turtles. Sailing onwards, reach Punta Suarez where a colony of sea lions greet you upon arrival. This area is also home to nearly the entire world population of Waved Albatross—though they’re graceful in the air, their clumsy behaviour on land is a sight to see.

Day 3: Cormorant Point and Post Office Bay, Floreana Island

Floreana was the first capital of the Galapagos, and where Charles Darwin met the islands’ Governor. It’s small brackish lagoon is often home to flamingos, stilts, and white-cheeked pintail ducks, and one of its beaches is a highly used nesting site for sea turtles.

Day 4: Moreno Point and Urvina Bay, Isabela Island

Composed of five coalesced volcanoes, Isabela is the largest island in the Galapagos. Along the rocky shores of Moreno Point, shore birds and flamingos wade in the hardened black lava pools. Here, there’s also a chance to see marine iguanas, sea turtles, stingrays and penguins. In Urvina Bay, look out for large land iguanas, finches, and if lucky, a giant tortoise or two!

Day 5: Espinoza Point, Fernandina Island and Vicente Roca Point, Isabela Island

Fernandina is the youngest island in the Galapagos and, as Darwin wrote, it is “covered with immense deluges of black naked lava.” Along with its extraordinary black lava rocks, this point of land hosts the largest colony of marine iguanas in the archipelago. In Vicente Roca Point, the awe-inspiring cliffs, blue waters, and wildlife create a Zodiac ride to remember as you search for sea turtles, penguins, fur seals, the flightless cormorant, marine iguanas and more marine mammals.

Day 6: South Plaza and Dragon Hill, Santa Cruz Island

A small, uplifted island just off the northeast coast of Santa Cruz. The island’s low-lying landscape is covered with colourful saltbush, scrub, and giant prickly pear cactus. A short hike and Zodiac ride provide ample opportunity to observe the beauty and wildlife of the island. Dragon Hill, or “Cerro Dragon” is named after its population of land iguanas, spot them as you explore during one of the excursions including snorkelling, Zodiac rides or hiking.

Day 7: Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island
