Queen Mary 2 Returns Cunard’s flagship vessel, Queen Mary 2, is one of the world’s best-loved ships.

After years of careful planning and extensive research, she has undergone a brand new remastering of unparalleled scale. Queen Mary 2 returned home to Southampton dock on 23rd June 2016 after her 25-day refit, which involved more than one million man hours.

Both the ship’s interior and exterior have undergone a huge transformation. The £90million full-scale redesign has made Queen Mary 2 even better and more luxurious than ever before. The exterior has been fully repainted and significant technical enhancements have been made. The inside has received huge renovations throughout, from the accommodations to the bars & restaurants.

Since her launch in March 2003 as the largest (with a gross tonnage of 148,528), longest (at 1,132 ft) and most expensive (costing roughly £550 million) commercial ship of her time, Queen Mary 2 has unsurprisingly been a host to many famous faces and royalty, including a christening from Queen Elizabeth II in 2004. In the same year, this ship acted as a floating hotel for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, with guests including former US President George H.W. Bush. The ship’s exterior was designed to resemble historic liners, in order to reflect Cunard’s traditional values. The exterior also needed more robust steel in order for the ship to endure the rougher Atlantic seas for its transatlantic voyages.

Queen Mary 2’s huge restoration has created plentiful new amenities which truly demonstrate Cunard’s traditional and sophisticated style. When you step on-board you will be amazed by the refinement of each and every room. During the ship’s extensive refurbishment an additional 50 new cabins have been added, including 15 specifically for single travellers. As well as additional rooms, there has been a complete redesign and refurbishment of the Queens Grill and Princess Grill suites.

The Queens Grill suites are the ship’s largest and command the most incredible ocean views. These stunningly luxurious suites also provide additional space to relax, giving you access to the exclusive Grills Lounge, private deck and restaurant. The Princess Grill suites emit style and elegance.
