First Lego League Dream Team The Wild Goats, the First Lego League (FLL) Team from St Clements, is hard at work applying their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills to help make our community a better place to live.

The goal of FLL is to inspire kids in engineering and robotics by having them design an innovative project and program robots to complete missions.

This year’s FLL topic is city spaces and the Wild Goats have been meeting every Monday night at coach Jason Jantzi’s

house in St Clements “to help make our community more accessible, sustainable and environmentally friendly” says Tyler MacDonald, one of the team members.

The Wild Goats is made up of eight 10 to 14 year old, budding engineers and scientists. This is their second year in the FLL program. Last year, they won three awards at the Regional Competition and moved on to the Provincials, at which they won the Mechanical Design Award.

Lego provided each team with some Lego and the mission board, upon which their Wild Goat-designed robots will be performing challenges. Additional materials were purchased with donations from Wild Goat sponsors, including Carter Automation, Exotic Wings and Pet Things, and the Paradise & District Lions.

For their innovation project, Brooklyn Alpaugh says “We took a vote and decided to build a sorting machine to help separate recycling items from regular garbage. A lot of people are lazy and don’t sort properly.”

Baden Flags What’s with all of the coloured flags lining the streets in Baden?

There’s a rumor floating around town that it’s prep work for the installation of fibre optic cable for new, high speed internet services under the Southwestern Ontario Fibre Technology (SWIFT) project which was announced in 2017.

Maybe.

According to Wilmot Mayor Les Armstrong, the Region is mapping all of the utilities in town, in anticipation of major work that will be done on Snyder’s Road in 2020. This may be true, but according to the workmen, they are also plotting out the route for fiber optic cable.

If you see a flag on your boulevard, it’s easy to tell what utility is being mapped, as they use a universal colour code.

Communication lines (fiber, Bell, Rogers, et.) are orange, electrical and gas is yellow, sewer is green streetlights are red, natural and water is blue.

Employing a “Pixy” camera which can scan items by colour and shape, combined through wiring and software with a motor, the Wild Goats have built a sorting device which can discern whether an

item is recyclable or not.

When an item is scanned for the first time, the team determines whether it was destined for recycling or the garbage and programs the system accordingly.

Thereafter, when a similar object is scanned with the Pixy camera, it will be recognized and the appropriate instruc-

tion will be sent to a motor which moves the item to recycling or garbage automatically.

The Regional competition will take place at St David Catholic Secondary School on Saturday, November 30th.

Letter from MPP Belinda Karahalios Summer and fall have given us so much to be thankful for and experience in and around our communities.

The Cambridge Fair, one of many Fairs offered in Waterloo Region, celebrated its 180th year. My family – my son especially – had a great time. Like so many did. Thank you to the organizers and all the volunteers for keeping this time-honoured tradition alive year after year.

Another local tradition is the St. George Applefest

in Brant County, which marked 35 years and experienced one of the hottest days this September but that didn’t stop the crowds; it didn’t stop the vendors from selling out of some of their goodies either! I look forward to seeing everyone for the 36th St. George Applefest in 2020.

And, of course, it would not be October in Waterloo Region without Oktoberfest. Since 1969, the region has been enjoying Canada’s greatest Bavarian Festival - the

We Will Remember From September 11th to 16th, 36 members, families and friends of the Algonquin Regiment of Canada travelled overseas to retrace the Route of Liberation in Holland and Belgium during WWII in the autumn and winter of 1944/45. The Algonquin Regiment was part of the 4th Armoured Division of the Canadian Army.

The Battle of the Scheldt raged in Belgium and the Netherlands in the fall of 1944. The Allies had captured the large Belgian port of Antwerp and needed it to deliver vital war materials. The city, however, was almost 80 kilometres away from the open sea and the Scheldt Estuary, which connected the two, was controlled by German forces. Canadians played a leading role in the efforts to open the waterway to Allied shipping.

and Belgium welcomed us warmly and helped us to understand the depth of the impact that the Canadians had made.

The trip was a unique and memorable experience for our group, but was especially meaningful for my wife, Barbara, and several other tour members, to follow in the footsteps of their fathers who served their country.

Barb’s dad, Pvt. James Broomfield, was captured on October 25th, 1944 at Wouwsche Plantage, a small village near Bergen Op Zoom in Holland.

Jimmy survived the POW camp and lived to be 100 years old. He died one week after Rose, his wife of 72 years.

We visited some sites of the Algonquin Regiment’s Battle Honours and participated in a special commemorative ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the

When you first meet Carter, you will see a vibrant, outgoing and expressive young boy. Full of life, Carter, age 10, tells us he is stronger and able to do things on his own because of KidsAbility, following a serious car accident 2 years ago.

Devastating news for any parent, the surgical team took mom Rebecca aside and regretfully told her that Carter was likely going to be quadriplegic.

He could only move his eyes and his mouth. But after weeks of intensive therapy in hospital to help move his arms and legs, Carter was determined not to go home in a wheelchair. He worked hard to build up his strength and was discharged with only a walker and a referral for KidsAbility.

“I had no idea just how

many services and supports KidsAbility provided to families until we needed them,” says Rebecca. “When you come in, you get a whole team of people. Having all of these services in one place makes it so much easier for families—you are not alone.”

Carter continued to strengthen his muscles through his favourite therapy sessions on the zip line swing chair at the KidsAbility Cambridge site. Experiencing trauma, Carter and his family also received help from the social work team to work through emotions. His

big sister, Charlie, is also someone Carter looks up to in his journey.

Today, Carter is not only walking, he is running, playing the drums and wants to pass the swim test so he can go down the waterslide at his local pool—something that his Recreation Therapist at KidsAbility is helping him to achieve. No doubt, he will continue to conquer his goals and dreams for the future. Look for Carter and his family throughout the region on behalf of KidsAbility this year and into 2020 as they support our fundraising and awareness efforts!

Pet Q &A Q: How often should I go to the vet?

A: The answer to this question depends on the age and health status of your pet. Owners of puppies and kittens should expect a visit every 3-4 weeks until their pet is 16 weeks old. After the flurry of visits during your pet’s first year, annual check-ups are recommended until your pet is a senior. During these appointments we will have the opportunity to update vaccines,

perform screening tests and provide recommendations for a preventive approach to diseases. The age at which your pet becomes a senior varies between dogs and cats as well as between dog breeds. Senior visits are recommended at least twice yearly to ensure we are optimizing health and mobility, monitoring weight and discussing any lifestyle changes required to support an aging body.

LIFESTYLE Living in the townships and tips on just plain living

Echo Echo, a Shepherd-Collie mix born on a Manitoulin Island reserve, managed to make her way to a small town. Quickly realizing she was not suited to “urban life”, Echo’s original owners decided to post an ad in the local paper to find her a more suitable “outdoor” home environment. Echo was adopted

by Tish Smith and her husband Ted, and moved to the family farm. Tish knew in her heart, she and Echo were meant to be together.

Echo was immediately at home with her new family. An outdoor dog to her core, she loved the farm.

When she wasn’t swim-

ming, she was chasing chickens back into their coop, or herding cattle and sheep. In the spring of 2006 the Smiths had a wildlife pond set up on their farm and quickly discovered that Echo didn’t just like to swim, she loved it.

Last July, keen for a “self discovery adventure”, Tish decided to take a five-day canoe trip across lake Huron. Tish describes the decision to take this solo canoeing trip as “inexperienced enough to think I was experienced enough to undertake such an adventure.” To put it into perspective, Lake Huron, the second largest of the Great Lakes and third largest fresh water lake in the world, covers 59,596 square km – nearly the size of West Virginia! And while the Smiths have five large dogs on the farm, Tish chose Echo as her only companion on this canoe trip – perfect for a dog who loves the outdoors and the water.

It was an incredible and beautiful five day trip – the best vacation of Tish’s well-travelled life. But at 6:00 a.m. on July 15, as they headed home, all of that

changed. A massive storm came out of nowhere. The giant waves posed an immediate threat, and the danger of the canoe capsizing was inevitable. Tish tried to put Echo’s life jacket on, but she refused. Instead she sat in the canoe with her head on Tish’s thigh. Tish continuously talked to Echo, who, in turn, safeguarded Tish’s sanity and diminished her fear with a constant reassuring look. Frightened that Echo was not wearing a life jacket (Tish now wore two!), she hadn’t even begun to think about the possibilities of drowning or hypothermia.

After struggling for a couple of hours, the canoe was capsized by a towering wave and knocked Tish and Echo into the extremely cold water. They landed beside each other and watched as their canoe and possessions scattered across the black waves. They spent the next twelve hours struggling together in the water. Echo, the amazing swimmer that she is, didn’t abandon Tish for one moment.

With Echo by her side Tish never felt a sense of

panic or fear, and felt they would eventually swim to shore or be rescued. From the very beginning Echo tucked herself into Tish’s side.

As a Registered Nurse, Tish realizes she should have recognized the signs of hypothermia as they set in, but feels now that perhaps it was a good thing that she didn’t. She may have panicked, which wouldn’t bode well for their survival. Tish’s last memory was feeling an extreme euphoria and warmth as her core temperature plummeted, and then she lapsed into unconsciousness. The next thing she remembers was waking up in the Emergency Department.

What happened after losing consciousness has been shared with Tish by police and health care professionals. The partially submerged canoe was found, and the OPP Marine Search and Rescue Team, and the Canadian Air Force Search and Rescue Team from Trenton, Ontario were contacted and dispatched. An initial grid search came up empty, and they weren’t even

4) Make sure to water your arrangement well when it’s finished. Even in the winter cold, greens will need water every once in a while, and when the soil freezes, everything will be held in place.

Outdoors, fresh greens will last until the spring thaw. Indoors, greens typically last 7-10 days and do best when they are kept away from heat sources (if boughs are placed in water they can last 4-6 weeks). When placed indoors, misting your fresh greens regularly will also increase their lifespan.

Fresh wreaths and garlands add a vibrant festive touch to any home, and a large fresh greens arrangement outside your front entrance gives a fantastic first impression. To help make your home stand out all winter long, follow our 4 simple steps to create a dramatic, professional-looking arrangement (mid-November is the perfect time to start): 1) Prepare your pot. If you have a large urn or planter that has been sitting outside all summer,

pull out any plants and top up with extra soil if needed. If you’re using an empty pot, you can either a) fill it with soil or b) place a layer of sand/ stones on the bottom for weight with water-soaked floral foam on top.

2) Select your greens.

Pine, Cedar, and Fir boughs are some of the most common types of greens used in pots, but there are lots of options.

When choosing your greens, think about combining different shades and textures to create even more interest.

certain anyone was actually missing. The Search and Rescue Team then flew in over the tree line and spotted Echo swimming around Tish’s unconscious body. Paramedics jumped into the water, and were able to save both Tish and Echo.

What makes this story even more amazing is that by the time Tish and Echo were found, they were within swimming distance of shore. A dog’s natural instinct is to head for shore, but Echo never left Tish.

Echo was able to retain her own body temperature be-

cause of her thick coat and staying close allowed Tish to absorb some of Echo’s body heat and prevent earlier onset of hypothermia and certain death.

Echo has changed dramatically since their adventure together. She is tremendously attached to Tish and follows here everywhere she goes. In fact, since the incident, Echo has decided she is no longer “a farm dog,” and has moved into the house where she sleeps on Tish’s pillow between her and her husband. Echo is truly Tish’s heroine.

Apple Compote 1. Cut up some apples To make about 3 cups of an all-apple compote, start with four apples, which should be somewhere between 1 1/2 and 2 pounds. I like to use a mix of apple varieties, just like when making pie or crisp since some of them melt down more than others and some are more tart or sweet.

If you’d like to add another fruit to your apple compote, do! Use at least half apples, and then add pears, quince, plums, blueberries, apricots, peaches, plums, raspberries, cranberries, etc. Peel your apples if desired— they’ll break down more without the peel, but it’s totally not necessary to do so. I often peel at least one or two of my apples and leave the rest of the skins on.

Then cut them into cubes about 1-inch in size, and toss them into a pot.

Feel free to double or halve the amount as needed, depending on how much compote you want to end up with.

2. Add water and sweetener For every half pound of fruit, add 2 Tbsp. of water and 1 tsp. of sweetener to the pot. So if you’re starting with 2 pounds, that’s 8 Tbsp.

(1/2 cup) of water and 4 tsp. of sweetener.

Your sweetener can be white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, date syrup, coconut syrup, agave, etc. (The New Englander in me will always love apples with maple syrup.) This measurement of sweetener is just enough to balance the natural tartness of apples and make your compote taste like a treat. But if you’d like to cut back on the sugar or skip it entirely, you can! And if it doesn’t taste sweet enough after the compote is cooked, you can always stir in

3. Add some spices and/or aromatics First up, toss a pinch of salt into your pot. Yes, just a pinch to intensify the flavors and help everything taste better.

Then add something fragrant to infuse into the compote while it cooks. Try a cinnamon stick or two, a few cardamom pods, some star anise, cloves, or a few slices of ginger. Add a splash of vanilla extract

or a vanilla bean, or go for a little bourbon or brandy or sherry or gin if you like. Add a sprig of rosemary or a few strips of lemon or orange zest.

Or a combination of any the above.

Erbhaven Trails With all of the fall colours on glorious display, Wellesley’s newest recreational trail was opened to the public on October 19th.

The eight-acre site, which can be accessed at 1401 Queen Bush Road, directly across from the fire station, was donated to the township by the family of the late Earl E. Erb in 2016 and is a welcome addition to the recreational facilities in the community.

Community members and township employees cleared trees and bush, building the trails under the direction of the Region of Waterloo Arborist, ensuring that all of the work was performed in an ecological manner. By locating the trails along existing tractor trails blazed by Earl Erb, the number of trees that needed cutting was kept to the bare minimum.

With all of the community and township volunteers doing most of the work, the costs were kept at a minimum too!

The woodlot is just part of the land donated by the Erb family. In total, they donated 40 acres to the township, with the adjoining open field area being the site of the future Wellesley Recreation Centre, which is currently in the application process.

Like Schmidt Woods in

Baden, Erbhaven Trails seems destined to become one of the favourite dog-walking and hiking trails in the township.

Thanks to the Erb family for their gracious donation and contribution to the thriving community of Wellesley. Their donation will help improve the lives of Wellesley residents for many decades to come.

Elmira – Ontario is committed to helping seniors keep active, healthy, safe, independent, and socially connected in their own communities. Yet, many seniors face financial and other obstacles in accessing programs and services that will help support their overall health and well-being.

That is why Ontario is investing $14.1 million to support more than 300 Se-

niors Active Living Centre programs in communities across the province, this includes $105,454 in total funding to help seniors stay active in Woolwich and Wellesley townships.

“Supporting our seniors today is about investing in all of our futures. This funding will have a direct and positive impact on seniors in communities across the province by giving them an opportunity

to take part in programs and services that will help keep them active, socially connected, and healthy,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “These programs and services support healthy aging and help seniors to live the quality lives they deserve.”

Organizations receiving funding for the Seniors Active Living Centre Program for 2019/2020 are: • Community Care Concepts (St. Jacobs): $52,727 • Woolwich Seniors Association (Elmira): $52,727 Seniors Active Living Centre programs support over 100,000 seniors across the province, and this funding will provide a variety of programming and activities to help seniors stay active, socially engaged, safe, and healthy. FAITH Faith in something greater than yourself is free, but priceless

| The Healing Journey of Marriage Dear Friend, For Karen and me, the first years of our marriage didn’t represent a journey of healing but a journey of pain. Both of us were wounded as individuals.

Because of those wounds, we could not find agreement. We fought. We didn’t understand each other until God began to heal Karen. Through her, He healed me.

Looking back, I can see the sovereignty of God at work in putting us together—even though we drove each other crazy at first. It turns out that God was doing so much work behind the scenes of our relation-

ship. We just didn’t quite understand it.

Like the tip of an iceberg visible above the water, there’s always much more below the surface of why God puts two people together. Failing to understand what God is doing is what causes the pain.

There are two choices we make when we’re dating and getting married that we need to understand.

First, God wires us to seek a spouse who will be our compatible opposite. This happens subconsciously. Most people approach marriage thinking, “I want to find some-

In Genesis 2:18, God says, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” The word translated “helper” is ezer. It means to supply what is lacking. That’s why God created Eve. He didn’t create another Adam, because Adam didn’t need a second version of himself.

In marriage, you don’t need another you. You need someone who supplies what you are lacking.

That is what happens in

your subconscious: You’re looking for someone who completes you—someone who is compatible.

Compatibility is not based on sameness. It’s based on beliefs, values and character. Karen and I are polar opposites in personality, but we both love Jesus and are heading in the same direction in life.

Although she’d been preparing for the event, she was afraid of doing poorly. Still, she started the race with everyone else. Later, one by one the other runners

For eight years, marriage professor Dr. Harville Hendrix and his wife Ruth LaKelly Hunt researched why couples fight. They came to this conclusion: We are all wounded from our past, and subconsciously look for a spouse who has the best chance of healing us.

We fight because we are unaware of that healing dynamic.

For instance, I’m not wired to feel. My emotions have always been buried far beneath the surface. Karen helped me find them. She helped me walk through the hurts of my past. It was a painful process, but through our

conversations, she helped me identify my wounds and access those emotions.

Karen believed in me and God used her to heal me. I accepted the healing she brought to our marriage. When we allow those subconscious decisions to come into the conscious realm—when we make the decision to accept and heal each other—that’s when marriage becomes a healing journey. That’s how God designed it.

Scripture honors hard work and diligence, a concept often learned through sports or music

or other things that require perseverance and effort.

Proverbs 12:24 says, “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.” And later we read, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty” (14:23). These wise principles—not promises—can help us serve God well.

God’s plan for us always included work. Even before the fall, Adam was to “work [the Garden] and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). And any effort we make should be done “with all [our] heart” (Colossians 3:23). Let’s work in the strength He gives us—and leave the results to Him.

I recently saw an ‘Official Secrets’ interview on YouTube. It’s about Katherine Gun, who bravely released top secret documentation about the US and UK planning to blackmail other nations into supporting the illegal Iraq war. Katherine’s struggle with issues of loyalty to her country, to humanity, to her husband, to her own conscience, made me think about how we

decide to cross a line, and go public for the greater good (sometimes called enlightened self-interest).

Like Gun, who knows her efforts failed, we make big decisions without being able to predict the outcome. Think about getting married. Or deciding to have a child. There are desired outcomes that we pray for, but we really have no idea what will come to be.

With this climate emergency, we have scientists to look to, and other countries and communities that have begun adaptations already. Both provide a godsend in decision-making confidence for each of us. Yes. We know some things that need to be done and we know time is of the essence.

Nevertheless, putting one’s name and address on a petition can seem like a big step.

Bringing the topic up in social/family conversation can be a big step. Calling a councillor to ask for information? Going to a march? Putting up a lawn sign during elections, posting our concern on social media - egad!!

When I went with two others to the 2014 Peoples’ Climate March, I crossed the chicken line within myself. We stayed with relatives in a nearby state; wrote emergency numbers on our arms; took the bus into NYC; stayed to the edges. It was a peaceful and loving event with every age, size, shape, colour of person on attendance. Walkers, babies, wheelchairs. Ransomware’s ability to encrypt entire volumes of data is a nightmare scenario for many infosec pros.

Their only comfort may be the hope their backups are secure and data can be restored, with few side effects.

However, Ontario’s top cybercrime cop warns recent variants also include

the ability to exfiltrate data.

“That’s scary,” Det. Sgt. Vern Crowley, head of the Ontario Provincial Police’s cybercrime investigations team, told infosec pros at the annual security conference of the Ontario division of the Municipal Information Systems Association.

In the last four weeks, Crowley said his unit has responded to an outburst of cyber attacks, including ransomware.

The most recent victim was the city of Woodstock, Ont. Not only is ransomware now stealing corporate data, Crowley said versions like Ryuk also come with the Emotet and Trickbot credentials-stealing malware.

For those who don’t realize, Ryuk in effect works backwards: It first tries to encrypt backups on the network, then servers, and finally endpoints. It also covers its tracks, wiping

Why do we feel exposed when we demonstrate concern for the future of our children? Isn’t that concern perfectly normal? So, what is it that holds us captive within, prevents us from writing letters, speaking to our councillors, getting off our duff and participating with those who are facing this emergency? We must have some deep-seated fears to be willing to abandon our beloved children’s well-being. What do you think holds us back?

Being a committed environmentalist is considered pretty upright these days. My family counts on me to know what’s happening, where and when.

Actually, finally, we have reached the day when my friends value my commitment, history and knowledge. We have good con-

versations, sharing what we know and think.

Our townships could have been like Ireland no plastic bags since 2008; Costa Rica - a grazing ban in mature forests since 1996; like our neighbour Eden Mills, working since 2007 to be Canada’s first carbon-neutral community. Kitchener was the first to test a municipal recycling program in 1981; 38 years later, do you have recycling bins in your township buildings? Some of us don’t.

So how do we get where we want to go? Somehow, we have to commit to rational thought, enlightened self-interest, and ACT NOW. Otherwise, I fear our beloved young ones are headed towards unimaginable horrors.

This makes it more important than ever, Crowley said, to keep logs as long as possible for forensic purposes.

Roughly 80 per cent of ransomware is delivered through email phishing attacks, he said. However, recently his team has also seen criminals access networks through brute force attacks on open remote desktop protocol ports. RDP shouldn’t be open to the internet, Crowley warned.

He insisted two-factor authentication to protect logins is “an absolute must … It will go a long way to

protecting your systems.”

Having off-line backups that can’t be infected is another vital defense, he added.

Crowley also urged organizations to report all cyber incidents to local police – after all, it’s a crime — and not simply by saying ‘We’ve been hit by a virus.’ For investigative and data collection purposes police need to know what happened and what systems were affected. (For example, it may impact the ability to pay employees.)

Crowley doesn’t like when organizations pay ransoms, because it only rewards criminals.

However, he admitted

that if a firm doesn’t have a clean backup and free decryption keys aren’t available from security vendors it will have its back to the wall.

One problem, he said, is that there are still companies and municipalities that don’t believe they’ll be hit – they think ‘I’m too small.’

However, in an interview Crowley shied away from blaming management. The problem, he said, is hackers are creating sophisticated malware and phishing attacks that some people fall for.

“You could have the strongest IT at the end of the day people are your weakest link.”

Ontario’s government is giving teachers and students the tools to learn about the agri-food sector.

On October 30, Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, announced that Ontario is helping youth learn about the agri-food sector and encouraging them to pursue exciting agriculture careers.

Over the next year, Ontario will provide up to $400,000 to AgScape, an organization that delivers curriculum-linked learning materials and programming in classrooms across the province. Students will learn about food production, the links between food, farming and health, and how to get involved and build a successful career in the agri-food industry.

“When students learn the ABCs of the agri-food industry, they’ll quickly realize that it’s so much more than cows and plows - it’s a driving force for innovation and economic growth in our province,” said Minister Hardeman.

“Giving teachers and students the tools to learn about agri-food will help shape our next generation of leaders and achievers.

With our government’s investment in AgScape, we can be assured that our future is in good hands as Ontario’s agriculture sector competes on the world stage.”

Article author Nicole Fisher cites an aging and decreasing population base as the primary reason for fewer services and resources. This is a narrative that applies in Canada

and we will no doubt be continuing a discussion around options for better delivery.

As the presidential nomination process continues, it will be highly intriguing to observe the distance Sanders can carry his message of health care reform.

Canadian voters might observe our own system and realize it is not as defective as we often believe.

Each year, thousands of people across the province get sick with the flu, which puts extra pressure on hospitals and the health care system. The flu shot provides the best defence and is a proven way to reduce emergency department visits and wait times to help end hallway health care.

Today, Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and

Minister of Health, was at Rexall Pharmacy at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto to get the flu shot.

“Every Ontarian can join our efforts to put an end to hallway health care by getting their flu shot,” said Elliott. “In fact, getting your flu shot is an important part of keeping all Ontarians healthy and out of hospital, while reducing the strain on our emergency departments. The flu shot will be available across the province to protect you and your family.”

The free flu shot is especially important for

young children, pregnant women and people 65 years and older who are at high risk of flu-related complications. It will be available at family doctor and nurse practitioner offices, public health units and participating pharmacies for anyone five years of age or older.

For children between six months and four years old, the shot can be administered by a doctor or nurse practitioner.

Several health care leaders joined Elliott in encouraging Ontarians to get their free flu shot.

“Minister Elliott set an excellent example for Ontarians today by getting the flu shot,” said Sandra Hanna, Interim CEO of the Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada. “The vaccine remains the single most effective way to protect against influenza and its complications.

Pharmacists in 4,500 communities across the province are ready to deliver the flu shot in a convenient, accessible way.”

“The flu shot is safe and is your best defence to protect you, your loved

ones and your community,” said Dr. Sohail Gandhi, President of the Ontario Medical Association. “While the flu is common, it can also be serious and cause many complications. The flu kills an estimated 3,500 Canadians every year and puts more than 12,000 in the hospital.”

“Nurse practitioners are proud to play such an important role in administering flu shots across Ontario,” said Dawn Tymianski, Chief Executive Officer of the Nurse Practitioner’s Association of Ontario (NPAO). “It is a proven way to increase both personal and public health and NPAO applauds efforts by the government to increase awareness and access.”

“Since 2012, Ontarians have increasingly demonstrated their preference to getting their flu shot from their community pharmacist, with more than 1.2 million pharmacy immunizations last year alone,” said Justin Bates, CEO of the Ontario Pharmacists Association.

This Jane Austen adaptation stars many big names like Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, who all prove their place within this Victorian style feature. Beautifully cast, each actor brings their characters to life, adding intricate layers and humanizeing them to full effect.

This is a story about marriage, finding the right per-

Sense and Sensibility shows timelessness and charm as we follow three sisters, Eleanor, Maryanne and Margaret, while they deal with having been left nothing in their stepfather’s will but a small weekly allowance, and the places they must live and the people they end up meeting.
