We all have friends that are alike or different from each other. My friend Nicole and Amy are also friends. Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more different than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and two inches with medium brown wavy hair that is shoulder length. Nicole's personality is super shy and, quiet when it comes to new people or people she rarely talks to. However, when it comes to people she likes and enjoys talking to, she is a social butterfly. Amy was never in any a team sport. However, she plays tennis with her cousins for fun. Amy is really sociable and blunt at the same time. I remember a time during lunch there was a table across from us were talking super loud and she shout "shut up". Amy is not afraid to speak her mind while Nicole is more shy and quiet. Nicole cannot stand watching gory, horror and supernatural movie. For example, during summer, our friend, Julie, invited Nicole, Amy, and Iwatch Green Inferno. Nicole did not want to come along due to the fact that when she watched the trailer of that movie she found it super gory and disgusting. What does a story about a very religious, Puritan man who goes into the woods to see a witch party and a story about a con man who steals a girl's fake leg have to do in common? This may seem like an odd and unusual question, but these short stories by Flannery O'Connor and Nathaniel Hawthorne are similar. The short stories of Good Country People andYoung Goodman Brownare different in their plots, but are alike in the personalities and flaws of the characters; both stories having characters who are hypocritical and manipulative. Good Country People by Flannery O'Connor is a story with a lot of ironic elements in it. These are mostly found in the way that the characters depict themselves in contrast of how they truly are. For example, Mrs. Hopewell says that she has no bad qualities of her own, but she is a constant liar is an how she happened to hire the Freemans in the first place and how they were a godsend to her and how she had them for four years. The reason for keeping them for so long was because they were not trash" (O'Connor 247). Mrs. Hopewell is not the only hypocrite in this story; Manley Pointer is also incredibly hypocritical, fake, and manipulative. Comparison and contrast is when you compare two alternatives in order to decide which one is better by finding the differences or similarities between them. In comparison you will find the differences between two or more things, and in contrast you will find the similarities. Depending on what type of paper you are writing, many times the subject will be chosen for you. However, in other situations you have to choose your own; when choosing the subjects keep in mind that they need to have obvious differences or similarities.

'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' and 'The Red Convertible' 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' by Ambrose Bierce and 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Erdrich both recount sorrowful tales of men during times of war. The stories differ in that 'An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge' is a story written in reverse, where the readers do not truly know the plot until the end– whereas 'The Red Convertible' is just a man recounting the story of his long lost brother. However despite their differences, both of the stories continue to build up hope in the reader only to find nothing but a sorrowful story at the end.

The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what he had seen overseas.

Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior, illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. But he was such a loner now that I didn't know how to take it."

When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright colored clothes he used to dawn instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The quote from the middle of the story, speaking about the television, and how Henry just sat "in front of it, watching it, and that was the only time he
