Welcome to the 2nd Annual Bull and Select Commercial Bred Female Sale! What a year 2024 has been for the cattle industry, and a huge congratulations to those that have stuck out the lean years. We sure hope this fall’s prices in the calf market and this summer’s cull cow and bull market helped your bottom line! It’s sure encouraging to see, let’s hope it continues for some time.
A quick introduction, we are Diamond R Stock Farm - Brad, Jayne, Larissa and Cade Rutten. We live, eat and breathe cattle. We are true believers in the industry and are committed to trying to produce the best genetics we can within our environment.
As you go through the offering, you will notice we are a multi-breed operation. We were multi-breed when it wasn’t cool 32 years ago! Brad brought his Charolais, Jayne brought her Black Angus and together we were introduced to the Simmental breed. We are especially proud of our commercial herd. The kids have their own commercial herd of Black White-Faced females, and they are fabulous! We haven’t looked back. We are proud of Larissa’s passion in her Black Angus herd, following in the footsteps of her Great-Great Grandfather James Easton. In fact, Jayne’s family is celebrating over 80 + years in the Angus business. Cade is following his dream as an Agricultural Equipment Technician. He enjoys his job at Nelson Motors!
Onto the offering, the bulls speak for themselves! We think there is something for everyone. These bulls are very maternally bred.
The 2 year old bulls …… have NEVER been offered for sale. They are truly held over for this very sale! They will sell with a passed semen test. They have not been hard fed; in fact, they were on a heifer ration all winter and were grassed all summer and fall to allow for natural growth and longevity. Their feet have not been trimmed. The Commercial Bred Heifers are exceptional! It will be hard to watch these ladies go, but we are at our limit for numbers. We would like to welcome 2 guest consignors to the sale this year as well. Cudmore Farms have been customers and friends for years. The bred heifers are from the top of their replacement female pen. Leaning Spruce Stock Farms, from Wawanesa, Manitoba, are also bringing a couple pens. The Shearers are no stranger to the cattle business and love to talk to cows and……corn!!
Please accept this as your invitation to join us on December 16th at the Wawota Drop In Center. Come for some fellowship and a great meal served from Weirs Catering!
We hope to see you there, The Ruttens
Welcome to the Diamond R Stock Farm’s 2nd Annual Bull & Select Commercial Bred Female Sale. We are pleased to be working with the Rutten family again this year to assist them with marketing their top bulls from each of the 3 breeds that their program consists of, as well as a select group of quality bred commercial females, right from the top end of their replacement pens.
Last year, Brad Jayne, Larissa and Cade took a step out of their comfort zone, changing the way they have marketed their bulls in the past, and hosted their first annual bull sale. As with every journey, it begins with a single step forward, and diving right in. They have assembled an offering for their second annual sale that is deeply routed in quality and functionality. Whether are you looking for those tried, tested and true genetics that the Diamond R program has established, for those bulls to incorporate into your program to push your calves performance higher, without sacrificing maternal qualities for those in the business of retaining females, this sale offering has it. The female offering is exciting, and the quality from top to bottom in each pen is consistent, there are no second cuts in these pens. These females are certainly foundation females to build a herd on!
This year, Diamond R has invited a couple of their bull customers, Cudmore Farms & Leaning Spruce Stock Farm, to consign pens of select bred females to the female portion of the sale. Watch for their exciting consignments, some carrying service to Diamond R bulls.
If questions arise as you’re studying the catalogue about any of the lots featured in the offering, please don’t hesitate to call. Stay tuned for videos of the offering, so you can see for yourself how deep the quality of this Diamond R offering is. Any of the sale staff would be happy to assist you if you are needing any help or wish to participate in the sale over the phone. DLMS will broadcast the sale for those wanting to participate online. Of course, if you are in the area, please come and join in on the Diamond R hospitality and the opportunity to visit with fellow livestock enthusiasts. Your interest and support of this top-notch program is greatly appreciated.
Hope to see you sale day,
Jon & Sarah Wright

Together with Dusty Rose Cattle, we purchased some embryos at New Years Resolution. Being a Natural Law out of the famous Werner Black Angel cow was exciting. We knew he would have an impact and that he did! Gomez was the Senior Bull Calf Champion at Manitoba Ag Ex in 2019. Performance is his name of the game; however, his females really shine. They are beautifully designed, and you will notice bulls in this sale that are out of Gomez daughters! Brad believes the Gomez females are some of the best females we have ever produced here so far! However, his sons are balanced individuals that will sire those great females and eye appealing steers! The kids used Gomez on their Black White-Faced females with excellent results! We unfortunately lost this great herdsire this spring due to a breeding injury. He will be utilized in our small AI program for years to come!
WKJ Jeter 4J was an in-dam purchase from Edwards Angus at the Harvest Classic in Moose Jaw. Brad purchased his dam, and we haven’t stopped hearing about it since! Right Larissa? All jokes aside, at 74 lbs at birth, Jeter wasted no time, man did he grow! He is a son of the popular Musgrave 316 Colossal 137. His dam, 392G, is a great little cow and produces attractive calves with lots of rib shape and calving ease. There is longevity in this pedigree! Jeter 4J ranks in the TOP 20% Calving Ease, TOP 40% Birthweight, TOP 15 % Weaning Weight and TOP 10% Yearling Weight! We sold half interest to Leaning Spruce Stock Farms (the Shearers). Jeter has bred in 2 herds every year and he maintains his body condition, regardless of the time of year! Jeter is the service sire to some of the sale heifers.
In the search for a Simmental heifer bull, it led us to Korona! Darnell Fornwald checked him out for us and highly recommended this calving ease specialist. His birthweight was 74 lbs, with an adjusted weaning weight of 909 lbs, which puts him in the Top 2% for Calving Ease and Top 3% Birthweight! He calved heifers flawlessly along with some selected cows. The bull calves seem to have some grow and the heifer calves look great! We were confident to use him on heifers again. Some of the sale heifers will be carrying early service to Korona! We lost this bull after breeding season due to injury!
Krush was purchased from Double F Cattle Co for $16,000. Jayne found this true curve bender when we were looking for a great cross for the Gomez females. He boasts a 69 lb birthweight, a 914 lb adjusted weaning weight and a 1,623 lb adjusted yearling weight. He ranks in the TOP 15% for Calving Ease, Top 20% Birthweight, Top 2% Weaning Weight and TOP 1% Yearling Weight in the breed! Those are some pretty nice numbers if you follow EPDs. We utilize EPDs as a guide only, however these numbers have proven themselves in his first calf crop. The heifer calves are truly exciting, and the bull calves can speak for themselves! His pedigree combines some of the great Hamilton Farms breeding, RoyMac breeding and the famed Toner Atalanta cow family.
ZSL Tillman 127H was the high selling bull at the Spring Lake Bull Sale at $35,000. We were fortunate to purchase the shared walking rights on this gentle giant! Tillman has an exceptional foot and it carries onto his offspring. The length he adds to his calves is second to none! We have bred Tillman to purebred cows and commercial cows. The pay weight on those steers was exceptional, as high as 824lbs. His females are exciting, having calved some. They look to have a long future ahead of them!
Delco 262J was the high selling bull at Palmer Charolais for $20,500. He was purchased for his Duty-Free pedigree and his very complete phenotype! Delco is so easy to be around and work with, and that means a lot around here! Duty-Free cattle have taken the Charolais world by storm with their performance and do ability! Delco ranks TOP 10% Weaning Weight and in the TOP 2% Yearling Weight in the breed. Although few in numbers, we are anxiously awaiting calving out his daughters this upcoming calving season!

His pedigree didn’t hurt either. His dam hails from the Epponia cow family, a family that Jayne’s family has had for 50+ years. Jayne is proud to have brought this family back to our herd! This bull has a red gene, so it might be fun on some red females.
WKJ Mandate 25M is another Krush son. He will be in the pen of bulls at Agribition. 25M is so complete and soft in his makeup! He has a hardworking Gomez dam that just knocks it out of the park, with her last calf sold last year to Cudmore Farms! This guy is so quiet, he is a pleasure to be around!

RUT Blk Motto 1M was an in-dam purchase from Tri K, via the Camrose Classic Sale. Taylor Richards found this red bred for us and thought she would ft right in. We are quite high on this calf and think he could work on purebred heifers, or the most discriminating of commercial heifers. This calf boasts an amazing hip structure and loads of hair! He is homo polled and 100K tested.

Diamond R Loyal 119L is another Delco son. This guy catches your eye in the pen. He is complete and sound. Loyal is all meat and potatoes!! Take a long look here! There’s lots of power in a nice package. His mother goes back to a purchase at the Belmont dispersal many years ago. The Scarlet cow family here is a favourite!
We are proud to present to you probably the deepest set of females we have ever raised!
We take a lot of time and effort in the selection of herdsires. We look for a bull with loads of maternal in his pedigree. As we do not AI a bunch, when we purchase a bull, he gets used, and if his daughters meet our criteria… he gets used a lot! The females on offer represent our commercial base and a lot of our purebred genetics. As you will see, we believe in hybrid vigour! This year you will also see some comments on the pens, we are that proud of these girls!
Heifers were preg checked on July 30th (1 group) and August 9th (2nd group)
Preg Checked by Head for The Hills Vet Services Confirmed in calf at time of preg check
Red DKF Racer 39H, a.k.a GITCH, was purchased after attending a Saskatchewan Angus tour in the summer of 2019. We were so impressed that day with the display at DKF Angus, we knew our next Red Angus heifer bull was coming from there. This bull is as phenotypically correct as you can make them. A bonus was to see Final Answer in the pedigree, making his females the keeper kind! He is very easy to work with, which is a must here! He calved heifers very successfully the last 3 calving seasons and the best part is they grow!!
