The Wiltshire Parent Carer Council (WPCC) The WPCC supports families raising a child/young person (0-25 years old) with SEN and/or disabilities. Keep up to date with the latest SEND information and events in Wiltshire by registering with the WPCC and sign up to receive our Weekly Newsletters using the form on page 32.

How to use the Short Breaks Bulletin Activities listed may be for a specific age range or groups of children based on needs.

Some activities are specifically run for children/young people with SEND, but there are also a number of activities that are inclusive of SEND and the organiser has requested that you contact before booking to discuss your child/young person’s needs/requirements to ensure they can be appropriately accommodated.

Most of the activities included will be face-to-face sessions, but there are also some online activities for those who struggle to access these.

You may find QR Codes for certain activities or for our registration form; you may be able to simply open your camera and they will automatically scan, or you may have to download a QR scanning app (for free). Once scanned, they will take you directly to the website link.

7. Summer Reading Challenge – ‘Gadgeteers’ Opening times: Saturday 23rd July to Wednesday 31st August.

Location: Local Wiltshire libraries and online: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ Cost: FREE. Age: Aimed at 4 - 11 year olds.

Who: Don’t have to be able to read well, they can still take part if they listen to stories with their parent/carer or to an audiobook.

Activities: Children are encouraged to read six or more library books during the summer holidays and receive rewards along the way.

8. Wiltshire Music Centre - Zone Club Dates: Saturday 6th August, 10.00am - 2.30pm.

(First Saturday of each month) Age: 16+ year olds.

Activities: Monthly music-making project for young adults, where they can create their own music, lyrics, dance and films, supported by musicians, music therapists & film-makers.

16. Rein & Shine - Pony Day Opening times: Tuesdays: 9th,and 30th August. Fridays: 12th August, 9.30am - 3.00pm.

Who: Led beginners and upwards.

Stable routines with the ponies, riding games in the afternoon.

65. Riding for the Disabled Associations RDA Groups are individual charities and are run by highly qualified instructors and trained volunteers.

Groups vary in size, opening times and in the activities they offer, but all them operate to the same high standards of training, professionalism and care.

All Groups will focus on riding as therapy, but this is not all… as well as riding, many Groups offer a variety of equestrian disciplines including carriage driving, showjumping, vaulting and endurance riding. As well as other skills such as learning to care for the horses.

You may just want to attend your Group and enjoy the activities on offer, but if you’d like to get more involved there’s also always opportunities to volunteer.

Inclusion funding for settings Early Years Inclusion Support Funding is a financial contribution for early years settings towards the inclusion of children aged 0-5 who have a disability or difficulty that creates a barrier to their learning.

The funding is ‘Needs Led’.

An Early Years Inclusion Officer and your setting will discuss any additional support required, in partnership with parents. The funding can be used by the setting for

training, resources or support which is additional to or different from what is normally expected to be provided within your setting. It is neither the expectation nor intention that the additional funding will provide 1-1 continuous support.

TAX FREE CHILD-CARE Tax-Free Childcare is a new UK-wide government scheme to help working parents with the cost of childcare.

It was rolled out to parents from early 2017. ● Eligible parents (both parents will have to be in work, and each expecting to earn at least £115 a week – and not more than £100,000 each year) will be able to open an online childcare account. The money held in these accounts can only be used by parents to pay for registered childcare (Preschools, childminders, day nurseries and school based care that is paid for, such as after-school clubs) • For every £8 parents pay in to their childcare account, the government will pay in an additional £2 up to a maximum of £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for disabled children). Parents will then be able to use the funds to pay for registered childcare - but only if their childcare provider has signed up to the scheme.

• When the scheme was introduced, childcare providers will have been sent a letter inviting them to sign up to Tax-Free Childcare. The letter contains a code, which they’ll need alongside their ten-digit Unique Tax Reference (UTR) number to sign-up. (If they’ve lost the letter, they need to get a new one sent by calling 0300 123 4097).

Children’s Centres 0-5s Children’s centres are places where parents with children aged 0 – 5 years old can share the challenges and joys of parenthood. They offer a range of activities and support services to help you with all aspects of parenting to make sure your child gets the best start in life. Children’s centre services are also provided in a range of venues in local communities so that families can access support close to where they live.

Children’s centre services in Wiltshire are run on behalf of Wiltshire Council by two voluntary organisations: Spurgeons and The Rise Trust.

Services offered from centres include: • General information, advice and support for parents of young children • Information on how to access childcare provided by nurseries or childminders • Easy access to children’s health services, including midwives and health visitors • Support for children with special needs including sensory rooms • Links with Jobcentre Plus, local training providers, further and higher education institutions • Provide support to parents and children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
