A few contracts are all that are left to sign before a new boutique hotel in downtown Winter Garden is officially on the way. At the June 27 City Commission meeting, Winter Garden officials voted to approve the sale of the downtown property at 8 N. Highland Ave. to WGH Property LLC for $1.2 million. “I think we’ve had six public meetings,” City Manager Mike Bollhoefer said. “We’ve gone over this quite a bit. H H H H H H H H HH CAR SHOW HOSTS BACKPACK DRIVE The Winter Garden Police Department received 75 backpacks filled with school supplies. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffles at the quarterly Cruz N’ Car Show in Winter Garden were used to purchase the backpacks and supplies, which cost about $1,500. “Giving to our kids shows them the community cares and sets them up for a better school year ahead,” said Jennifer Johnston, DJ with WJBJ Cruisin’ with the Classics. The backpacks will be distributed through the department’s programs.
