Bruce “B.J.” Haggins Jr. is more than just a mugshot. B.J. is the 16-year-old who will help a neighbor with raking or mowing chores. Plans are moving forward for a proposal for a 60-room hotel in downtown Winter Garden after the city’s Planning and Zoning Board recommended approval for the rezoning of the potential property Monday, June 3. The proposed spot for the new boutique hotel is 8 N. Highland

Ave., across from City Hall. Currently, it is home to a single-story, masonry building constructed in 1964 and occupied by Creative Veteran Productions, a digital media production company. The proposal is to sell the property to development company JA Hospitality LLC, which plans to build a three-story, SEE HOTEL PAGE 4

YOUR TOWN DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK SALE The historic district in downtown Winter Garden will offer something for everyone from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Rain or shine, participating merchants will be open and offering a variety of sales and specials, and there will be raffles and live music throughout the day. At the Centennial Plaza gazebo, Mud Rooster will perform at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and Spayed Koolie takes the stage from 3:30 to 7 p.m. The Winter Garden Art Association is hosting a free children’s art project at the SoBo Art Gallery until 5 p.m. Participants can create their own take-home masterpiece.
