Set up the pins and start a new game, because Aloma Bowl is here to stay. Winter Park bowlers breathed a sigh of relief as Aloma Bowl owners announced recently that they would not be closing the location — a welcome turn of events for many residents who feared the bowling alley property would be sold and turned into a hardware store. The Great Duck Derby will make its return at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Mead Botanical Garden, 1500 S. Denning Drive, Winter Park. Come out for a day of fun family activities featuring the most famous rubber duck races. Adopt a race duck for $5 or get a $20 Five-Duck Quack Pack. Admission, parking and other activities are free. Along with the races, activities include duckoration, bounce house, face painting, hayrides, silly sing-along, Central Florida Zoo Animal Encounters, fire truck exploration, and hikes along the creek and throughout the garden. Rollins professor resigns following controversy Rollins College professor Areej Zufari left her position at the Winter Park college. TIM FREED STAFF WRITER
A Rollins College professor tied to an alleged dispute between her and a student has resigned from the college. Professor Areej Zufari left her position at Rollins College recently, Communications Manager Jo Marie Hebeler said. “Professor Areej Zufari has made a personal decision to not continue teaching the rest of the semester,” she said.
