Advocates travel to capitol to lobby for arts funding Winter Park Chamber representatives and arts advocates recently traveled to Tallahassee to lobby for arts funding.

After school safety became a top priority in the Florida Legislature last year, state funding for the arts took a dive to fund school safety measures. With arts funding at a low point, a group of local arts advocates are hoping to restore some of that funding back to what it was. “(The arts are) part of the DNA of Winter Park,” said Betsy Gardner Eckbert, president and CEO of the Winter Park Chamber of

Commerce. “It’s just part of who we are. We’ve had these significant collections gifted to us, and it’s part of our DNA. … We know this is what matters for our residents, we know it’s what matters for our school children, we know it matters for our seniors and we know it matters for our guests.” Gardner Eckbert was one of the Chamber of Commerce representatives who joined with advocates of the Winter Park art scene on a trip to Tallahassee on Wednesday, SEE LOCAL PAGE 4
