The Winter Garden Fire Rescue and Winter Garden Police Department and Safe Kids Orange County is sponsoring a free child safety-seat checkpoint from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, at fire station 22, 13521 Foxcrest Blvd., in Winter Garden. On-site certified technicians will educate caregivers about proper car-seat installation. Parents and caregivers can have their seats checked to make sure they meet current safety standards and that they are installed correctly or to find out what type of safety seats are required for different ages and sizes of children. Turnstile Media Group Inc., the Orlando-based owner of the Winter Park-Maitland Observer, announced Feb. 23 the sale of the 28-year-old community weekly newspaper to Sarasotabased Observer Media Group Inc. Also included in the sale were the Winter Park-Maitland Observer’s affiliated publications and websites, including Central Florida Senior magazine. “We are very pleased that our publication will be presided over by such a dedicated and professional group. We wish them much success in their efforts to take our newspaper to new levels of accomplishment,” said Rance Crain, owner and chairman of Turnstile Media Group. The Observer Media Group is a 23-year-old private company

Gov. Rick Scott has reappointed two and appointed three to the Florida Concrete Masonry Education Council. Kelly Curtis, 47, of Windermere, is the vice president and general manager of Prestige Concrete Products VCNA. He is reappointed for a term that began Jan. 31 and ends June 30, 2019. Dr. Michael Armbruster, 54, of Winter Garden, is an educator for Orange County Public Schools. He fills a vacant seat, and his term is Jan. 31 through June 30, 2017. The other three include Darryl Fales, 46, of Estero; Jay Snyder, 56, of Orlando; and Robert Carlton, 43, of St. Augustine.
