YOUR TOWN SCOTT APPOINTS FIVE TO COUNCIL Gov. Rick Scott has reappointed two and appointed three to the Florida Concrete Masonry Education Council. Kelly Curtis, 47, of Windermere, is the vice president and general manager of Prestige Concrete Products VCNA. He is reappointed for a term that began Jan. 31 and ends June 30, 2019. Dr. Michael Armbruster, 54, of Winter Garden, is an educator for Orange County Public Schools. He fills a vacant seat, and his term is Jan. 31 through June 30, 2017.

Lee and the 18th U.S. president The Windermere Garden Club is hosting its Annual Crazy Card Party Fundraiser and Luncheon on Thursday, March 9, at Windermere Town Hall, 520 Main St. The event begins at 9:45 a.m. and continues until all raffle and silent auction items are won and card games are completed. CHURCH OFFERS LENTEN EVENTS Windermere Union Church — United Church of Christ, 10710 Park Ridge-Gotha Road, will begin reaching out to the Latin community with Lenten dinners and programs with a Latin flare every Sunday night during Lent, March 5 through April 9. The dinners are potluck and begin at 5:30 p.m. The programs following each Sunday night will explore how the Latino and Hispanic community traditionally celebrate worship through music, song, dance and food.

Group Inc., the Orlando-based owner of the Winter Park-Maitland Observer, announced Feb. 23 the sale of the 28-year-old community weekly newspaper to Sarasota-based Observer Media Group Inc. Also included in the sale were the Winter Park-Mai-
tland Observer’s affiliated publications and websites, including Central Florida Senior magazine. “We are very pleased that our publication will be presided over by such a dedicated and professional group. We wish them much success in their efforts to take our newspaper to new levels of accomplishment,” said Rance Crain, owner and chairman of
Turnstile Media Group. The Observer Media Group is a 23-year-old private company that publishes 11 other newspapers, three magazines and seven websites in Florida — in Sarasota, Plant City, Winter Garden, Windermere, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast and Jacksonville.
