MISSION: SUPPORT
David Worley
Asheville native David Worley, partner and president of Worley, Woodbery and Associates CPA firm, recently virtually visited with staff at the Wortham Center to share a bit about himself for the February eZine issue. Having served on the Wortham Center’s board of directors, David has been a longtime enthusiast and supporter of the arts, showing love to our organization and also other nonprofits in the Asheville area. David and his wife, Dianne, have been sponsors of the Wortham for many years on both an individual and corporate level.

What’s one thing that someone might be surprised to know about you?
Not only am I a native of Asheville, but also my ancestors first settled in Sandy Mush around 1795, which was the year Asheville was incorporated.
What is on your bucket list?
Travel is an obvious interest, especially in connection with art and history. So, St. Petersburg, Athens, Rome, Paris, Norway and Australia would rank high on my post-COVID-19 list.
If you could have lunch with one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I would love to have lunch with my grandparents. In our youth, we miss so much in understanding our elders and knowing more of their story — yet their history, their values, make up who we are. Unfortunately, we do not understand this missed opportunity until after they are gone.
Where do you like to go when you eat out and why? What is your favorite food there?
Friends and good conversation make for the best eating out experiences. I like Chestnut, Benne on Eagle, Limones, all near to the theater. And in a throwback to high school days, I occasionally pick up at Little Pigs; their basic barbecue still delights!
What do you like to do when you are not working?
I enjoy history, crafts and museums, exploring the outdoors, and many local events and activities, especially those such as basketball at UNCA, a real gem of a university here in Asheville.
What is your best piece of advice that you could share?
Be honest, fair and sincere — and if you are blessed with gifts or talent, these are to be shared, not hoarded.
What fuels your passion to support the Wortham Center?
Arts feeds the soul and elevates our humanity. The Wortham brings “big city” programs to our community, and I especially appreciate the mission to expose our young people to the performing arts.
