BROWNFIELD
Finding new ways to support local industries Partnering with our customers to provide flexible and adaptable contracting strategies. Project: Buzzard Phase 2 Customer: CNOOC Location: 96 km north-east of Aberdeen, UK; water depth 96 meters Project requirements: Hook on module for production platform Scope: Worley’s Rosenberg fabrication yard is providing topsides modifications and module fabrication. Our Integrated Solution business has done all of the engineering as well as brownfield project currently being executed as part of a novel consortium of subsea, drilling and topsides services due for completion in 2020. Value: Worley has been providing EPC services to Nexen’s North Sea offshore assets since January 2014. We collaborate to find new ways of working to support the local industry via a flexible contract adapting to variable workloads which has led to savings and efficiencies.

Challenge In 2015, plummeting oil prices made it cost prohibitive to undertake deepwater developments using current designs and methodologies. So our customer decided to challenge the norm and look for an economical way to continue to produce oil in the deepwater.
DESIGN INNOVATIONS
A lightweight, highly efficient design (conceived during the depths of the industry downturn) has now set a new benchmark in the Gulf of Mexico. Customer: Confidential Location: Gulf of Mexico Scope: Engineering and design services, FEED, detailed design

The project will represent a significant contribution to continued growth in the Gulf of Mexico.
Solution In 2018, a final investment decision was announced with forward looking break-even price estimated to be less than USD$35 per barrel for the deepwater development. This is a great achievement from our client and Worley who collaboratively redesigned the project, leading to the reduction of more than 70 per cent from the original concept.
Value delivered Heritage Jacobs ECR, now part of Worley, designed a lightweight, expandable topside that is capital efficient. A conventional approach for topsides would typically have been modular design, requiring multiple lifts during construction and installation. The new design, however, was cheaper to build and install because it only required a single lift. Heritage WorleyParsons and Intecsea were responsible for the design of the hull, hull system and topside main steel. Our teams worked on simplifying the design and reducing the overall weight of the semi-submersible.

It means that what used to take months is now completed in days. Once you have conceptualized your construction project, comparing another concept can be done in less than an hour. You can then see these changes immediately with visualizations in 2D and 3D, schematics, schedule and updated costs.
Building information management and augmented reality enhances field and maintenance activities Our integrated project delivery teams use cutting-edge technology to help maximize the efficiency of their design and construction projects. We have Building Information Management (BIM) and digital technology experts from our Digital group who can connect our customers to the right technology to solve specific problems. We understand the potential of incorporating new technology, such as augmented reality, for collaboration and enhancing field and maintenance activities. Our teams are experienced in as-built validation and asset maintenance. When you choose Worley, you choose the largest global network of industry experts – a powerful combination of tried and tested digital solutions delivered by experts with engineering know-how.

TECHNOLOGY INNOVATIONS
Pseudo Dry Gas concept extends deepwater subsea tie-back lengths beyond 200 km and eliminates the need for expensive topsides.
An alternative to adding more energy into the gas stream with associated high CO2 emissions, is to create a more energy efficient flow for stranded gas fields using Pseudo Dry Gas technology. Our technology addresses the root cause of excessive pressure drop for long distance gas tie backs. A joint industry project study has shown that this technology generates the highest gas recovery rates and economic performance for known stranded gas fields with a high geographical spread. In the North of the Shetland Islands, with a gathering system 200 km long and 1.7 km deep, the technology would yield an additional USD 13 billion (GBP 10 billion) in additional revenue. The saving is compared to the next best alternative solution in the current market and the value is calculated by eliminating the need for expensive subsea and topside processing options.

Low Motion FPSO combining the best features of each type of floating production facility As the frontiers of oil and gas production get harsher and deeper, our model-tested concept reduces motion and addresses the challenges faced by other floating production concepts such as the need for flexible risers, turrets (in the case of FPSOs) and wet trees.
Our Low Motion FPSO (LMFPSO) technology achieves the best of the low motion characteristics of a tension leg platform (TLP) and a semi-submersible to provide a deepwater large topside supporting, dry tree solution that can employ large diameter steel catenary risers (SCRs) and does not require a weather-vaning turret.
Our studies have consistently shown that a CAPEX savings of USD 1 billion can be achieved by eliminating the turret and using larger diameter SCRs in place of multiple smaller diameter flexible risers.
