Client Solutions Anodically Protected Storage Tanks Features and Benefits: ■■ Corrosion Control – Polarization of carbon steel results in creating a protective oxide film between the tank wall and acid by running an anodic current from the immersed cathode.

■■ Hydrogen Control – Hydrogen liberated through general corrosion is immediately drawn to the cathode where it rises to the surface to eliminate contact with the tank, drastically reducing localized hydrogen grooving, hydrogen blistering or damage to manways present in common sulfuric acid storage tanks.

■■ ANOTROL System – Acid storage tanks utilize the same system used on more than 3000 acid cooler installations around the world in a different configuration. Reference electrodes are used to measure anodic potential and the cathodes to supply the required current for the protective film.

Hydrogen Grooving Corrosion Often Seen on Sulfuric Acid Tanks without Anodic Protection

■■ Ease of Service/Installation – All Reference Electrodes/Cathodes are mounted on the roof with the Controller/Power Supply mounted close to the tanks for reduction of wiring runs.

■■ Remote Display Unit [RDU] – this unit displays the anodic status of the system, along with the capability of providing a 4-20 mA output from a level sensing device which includes a visual readout on the screen. This allows for ease of monitoring the overall system and its corrosion protection.

■■ Metallurgy Selection – Typical acid storage tanks are carbon steel; however, due to corrosive service life span is reduced. Chemetics circumvents this problem through anodically protected carbon steel or stainless steel storage tanks.

■■ On Site or Remote Technical Service – Chemetics’ technical service team is available to provide site inspections, maintenance and operator training globally for acid storage tanks.
