Malaysia Airlines looks toward oneworld alliance following AirAsia deal Malaysia Airlines – winners of the World Travel Awards for Asia’s Leading Airline and Asia’s Leading Airline Lounge at the Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony earlier this year – is one of the largest carriers on the continent.

With its subsidiaries, the airline employs 20,000 staff, flying 15.7 million passengers in 2010, serving almost 100 destinations globally in more than 30 countries across Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa and North and South America.

In 2011 In one of the most surprising and exciting developments of the year, Malaysia Airlines put aside a decade of competition with budget carrier AirAsia in favour of closer cooperation.

A share swap, signed by the carriers in August, will reduce competition and cut costs in one of Asia's key economies.

Under the agreement, resources for Malaysian Airline low-cost carrier, Firefly, will be refocused toward a full, regional service, reducing competition for AirAsia.

Looking Forward Malaysia Airlines is expected to start flying as part of oneworld in late 2012 after being elected on board as a member designate of the alliance in June this year.

Under the sponsorship of Qantas, Malaysia Airlines intends to develop bilateral links with a number of oneworld's established partners, building on existing code-share deals with oneworld partners Cathay Pacific and Royal Jordanian.

Incredible India Overview The Ministry of Tourism is the agency responsible for the development and promotion of tourism in India.

It is no co-incidence that Asia Pacific destinations grew by six per cent yearon-year in August 2011, according to recent figures from the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

Arrivals to India grew at five per cent in August as the country welcomed an additional 20,000 visitors when compared to the same period the previous year.

World’s first ceremony to promote Island Tourism World Travel Awards has unveiled a new awards programme to celebrate and reward luxury tourism to island nations.

World Islands Awards will take place on the eve on ITB Berlin 2012, with Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority signed as the official partner. It is the only event of its kind dedicated to recognising Island Tourism around the world.

Through this partnership, Mauritius will spearhead the drive for the promotion of Island Tourism worldwide, as well as ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the luxury tourism map.

The paradise island is currently enjoying a thriving tourism economy under the leadership of Minister of Tourism, HE Nandcoomar Bodha, and Dr Karl Mootoosamy, Director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.

The inaugural ceremony will take place at Hotel Adlon Kempinski, Berlin’s most exclusive five-star hotel, on 6 March 2012.
