The WSA Global Congress Vienna recognises the part that digital innovation plays in creating sustainable social change and impact world-wide. It demonstrates the richness and diversity of best-practice solutions from all over the world. The WSA Global Congress featured the 40 global winners in the 8 WSA categories, the WSA Young Innovators and connected them with international thought-leaders, ICT experts and local stakeholders to enable a sustainable and transformative knowledge transfer. Digital technologies are one of the main drivers for the United Nations agenda towards the Sustainable Development Goals towards the review in 2030. In Vienna, WSA and its congress participants presented best practices and shared experience how social innovation and entrepreneurship can be encouraged and play a key role to have a sustainable impact on society. VIENNA 2018

WSA PATRON STATEMENTS GETACHEW ENGIDA, Deputy Director-General, UNESCO Young people under the age of 30 have unprecedented opportunities to engage their imagination toward building Knowledge Societies, by addressing development challenges through widely accessible digital solutions such as apps, social media, as well as blockchain applications, the Internet of Things, robotics and artificial intelligence. Amidst the grave challenges facing humankind, we must find hope in all the young women and men who are applying their creativity toward local and global digital solutions to build a world of the future that will be more at peace and as one. We must urge the young innovators at the World Summit Awards to continue forward in their lives to help build a greener and more sustainable planet whose mission is to leave no one behind.

LI YONG, UNIDO Director General Today, the world has the largest youth population ever, with 1.8 billion young women and men across the planet. In many countries, young people face obstacles in engaging in productive activities leaving them vulnerable to social economic exclusion. Youth unemployment rates are significantly higher in most, if not all geographic regions. However, young people want to be actively involved in their communities and are ever more interested in making choices based on their ethical values. Many young people are actively seeking novel solutions to societal problems, acting as agents of innovation and change. To foster such development, international organizations, such as UNIDO, are helping countries to work towards increasing youth employability and providing them with the necessary tools to create and develop innovative and sustainable enterprises, ultimately empowering them to improve their livelihoods. Together, we can support our youth by building an enabling environment for the full realization of their capabilities.

DR. MICHAEL HÄUPL, Mayor and Governor of Vienna Vienna has been among the world’s most innovative cities for generations. Its strong welfare system, social housing for almost two thirds of the population, and the drinking water supply from the nearby mountains have worked reliably for decades thanks to sustainable planning. These accomplishments are just examples for the many social and technological innovations that enhance quality of life in Vienna every day, and have led to its worldwide reputation as a highly liveable city. To make sure Vienna remains a good place to live for everyone even as it continues to grow fast, we are already preparing the right framework conditions for the future: with a Smart City Strategy that focuses on social inclusion, responsible resource management, and inventing the future by investing in science and research.

DR. MARGARETE SCHRAMBĂ–CK, Minister of Digitalisation and Economics Preparing for the digital future is one of the most important tasks today. The internet expands new economic opportunities, creates jobs and connects people. Modern technologies offer big chances and require entrepreneurs to fully unlock their economic potential. The World Summit Award presents the most innovative youngsters and their outstanding digital projects from more than 180 countries, each with deep impact for improving our society. I would like to thank all participants and winners of this year`s Award for their courage and patience, working on new digital solutions for a better world.

VIENNA 2018

WSA PATRON STATEMENTS UNIV. PROF. DR. HEINZ FASSMANN, Minister for Education, Science and Research The future is digital. Innovation, creativity and technical know-how are all important for shaping this future. Spaces where changes take place need to be purposefully used. Digitisation is a huge challenge for education systems around the world, and simultaneously it offers many opportunities for the future of learning. We are currently faced with the important task of equipping young people with the skills necessary to prepare them for future developments. The World Summit Award, now in its 15th year, honours innovative projects from young entrepreneurs around the world who are working towards creating a sustainable and digital future. I would like to warmly congratulate all this year’s winners, and to thank all the participants for their active involvement.

NORBERT HOFER, Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology An ancient Chinese proverb says: When the winds of change blow, some build walls, others build windmills. We are currently in the midst of such change. Technological developments revolutionize the way we live and work, the way we communicate, how we travel, how we learn, how fast we age and how healthy we remain. Digitalization thus gives us the opportunity to successfully meet some of the greatest challenges of the 21st century, but only if we take the chance and learn to build windmills. At our Ministry we are trying to shape and support digital development through the provision of the necessary digital infrastructure and the funding of technology & innovation, however, we know that we can only pave the way. It is smart, curious, dedicated people like the youngsters participating in the World Summit Awards who are the real game changers. These people with their impressing ideas and projects are the ones who truly enrich the future and make a difference.

PROF. DR. PETER A. BRUCK, WSA Chairman SMART|DIGITAL|SOCIAL - THE SOCIAL SIDE OF CONTENT DRIVEN TECHNOLOGY Digital technology transforms society, but often not for the better, and surely not always with the intention to create a more equal, just and sustainable society. WSA allows a close look at innovation and creative use of technology where digital solutions result in a positive social impact. WSA is a global magnifying glass. It focuses on content driven technology and high quality interactive content with a clear intention to create a more equal, just and sustainable society. 5 The WSA winners are impacting the daily lives of millions by meeting deeply rooted needs. They stand out in the combination of smart content, social aims and digital innovation, doing more than just providing means of communication and information. WSA winners are winners because they solve real problems. WSA has a proven record of accomplishment within the framework of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2003-2025, mandated by the government of Austria since 2003 and implementing the 2005 WSIS Plan of Action. WSA is organised in collaboration with UN organisations such as UNESCO, UNIDO, UNCTAD, UNDESA and ITU. By building a unique global network of national experts, NGO’s, corporates, governments and other professional associations, WSA presents quality content and digital innovation from over 180 UN-member states and supports a global movement for sustainable digital solutions. Being a hub for start-ups and transformative environmental and infrastructural solutions, Vienna proves that a perfect symbiosis can be made of smart, digital and social. Smart, digital, social – WSA facilitates this Viennese symbiosis. w w w.wo r l d s u m m i tawa r d s .o r g | @ WSAo f f i c e | # WSAV IE N N A E V E N T RE P ORT | MAY 20 18

WINNERS INNOVATION PITCHES & WSA GLOBAL CONGRESS JURY VIENNA The 40 WSA Winners and 5 WSA Young Innovators already proved that their products are the most innovative solutions selected in the democratic and tough selection process of the WSA. Each winner had to first succeed in a local competition to prove their product to be the most promising from their country in the respective category. Each UN member state is eligible to nominate 1 product per WSA category. This year WSA received more than 400 submissions from over 100 countries. 72 international online jurors decided on a shortlist per category that was then presented to the WSA Grand Jury, hosted by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development in Berlin in October 2017. The Grand jury selected in long and democratic discussions the 40 WSA winners that have been invited to the WSA Global Congress in Vienna. At the WSA Global Congress Vienna the winners pitched their products in front of a specially appointed experts jury. Each team had 5 minutes to convince the jury that their team is the most committed, their solution has the strongest impact and their pitch is the most entertaining. 5 minutes Q&A-Time were given to each presenter after their pitch. After the last presentation, the jury selected 1 WSA Global Champion in each of the 8 categories to be specially awarded on stage at the WSA Gala Ceremony. The WSA winners demonstrate the richness and diversity of local content and prove that digital solutions are a key for development.

WORLDCAFE :: Collaborations enabling system transformation

WSa used the creative power of all international and local attendees in order to discuss the Systemic Constraints in existing systems - mainly from the perspective of young social entrepreneurs. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Peter A. Bruck and Sonja Kato and the WSA global network supported the

process as facilitors. The audience was invited to share their thoughts and perspectives in 2 rounds: ROUND 1: REVIEW YOUR SYSTEMIC CONSTRAINTS Which constraints do you encounter in your existing systems? ROUND 2: EXTEND & UTILIZE YOUR SYSTEM Which and how can you build collaborations in your system to break systemic constraints?

The main learnings were: • A lot of entrepreneurs work only within their systems and focus too much on what makes them different to other stake-holders, but sometimes collaborations are key in order to find new revenue streams or customers • You need to know your system, in order to come up with solutions - systems need to be identified from small to large systems - family, friends, team, competitors, corporate companies, regulators, government.... • Start strategic partnerships within your system and find strategies to overcome the identified barriers in your system w w w.wo r l d s u m m i tawa r d s .o r g | @ WSAo f f i c e | # WSAV IE N N A E V E N T RE P ORT | MAY 20 18

WSA IMPACT PARTNERSHIPS

One of the main objectives to bring the WSA Global Congress to Vienna was to create sustainable partnerships and a long-last knowledge transfer. In order to facilitate this process, WSA built several impact partnerships guaranteeing a networking process between local stakeholders and the international delegates.

Impact Partnership 1:1 Mentoring session for social entrepreneurs from austria

The real treasure of WSA is its global network of experienced social entrepreneurs, IT experts, start-up founders and government representatives. WSA partnered with the Social Impact Award and the Vienna Business Agency, who invited their networks to the WSA Global Congress. WSA offered them not only free conference tickets, but organized a matchmaking mentoring sessions, where each social venture received valuable feedback from at least two international mentors. There are many platforms where start-ups can get in touch with mentors or business angels, for social enterprises the situation is often different. The feedback from mentors and mentees after this session was enthusiastic - the mentors learn from mentoring and the mentees got insights from successful entrepreneurs from very similar areas of work. WORLD SUMMIT AWARD GLOBAL CONGRESS 2018 1:1 Mentoring Session for Social Entrepreneurs | March 21st, 17:00, Wappensaal, Vienna Cityhall in partnership with Social Impact Award, Vienna Business Agency and Red Bull Amaphiko moderated by: Bistra Kumbaroska, Impact Hub Vienna

Impact Partnership | UNESCO SCHOOLS WORKSHOP: HOW TO VLOG In partnership with the UNESCO schools Austria, WSA invites 50 pupils to act as video reporters at the WSA congress. As Digital Natives they know Social Media and web content by heart – but what if they use these tools to create really relevant content and even learn something about development, the UN SDGs, education, different cultures or sustainable entrepreneurship. WSA invited Francis Rafal to work with these young students and educate them how to make great movies with a normal smartphone. The students had to team up and create short movies about different topics, by interviewing the international network at WSA. All videos can be found here: https://bit.ly/2K3WPCS.

Impact Partnership | VIENNA BUSINESS AGENCY

Start-Up Package Vienna Each year the Vienna Business Agency provides the Vienna Start-up package to 20 promising start-ups. The Package offers a two month program and supports selected international start-ups who want to develop their business idea in Vienna and explore the Austrian and European market. Accommodation, travel, co-working spaces and coaching are included. In 2018 one of the Start-up Packages was exclusively provided to one of the WSA winners. Many of the WSA winners applied for the package and the Vienna Business agency selected Alpha Beats Cancer, Beaba from Brazil as winner. They are extremely excited and currently (May 2018) in the middle of their Start-Up program in Vienna.

Impact Partnership | JOSEF UMDASCH RESEARCH PRIZE

On occasion of the 150th company anniversary of Umdasch Group, WSA and Umdasch Group developed a partnership to enable a sustainable matchmakting process between innovative tech start-ups and the Umdasch Group. All WSA nominees from the last 4 award years were invited to submit an innovative concept for 3 challenges addressed by the companies of Umdasch Group. The challenges dealt with three of the WSA Categories “Learning & Education”, “Smart Settlement & Urbanization” and “Business & Commerce”. The idea is to work with experienced and creative teams and invite them to come up with new ideas or modified version of their already existing products for specific challenges of Umdasch Group. 5 finalists by category were invited to pitch their solutions to a Grand Jury at the Congress in Vienna. Each of them got a budget of € 5000,- as well as the travel to Vienna and their accommodation. Three winners were awarded and are now getting a contract for implementation by the Umdasch Group.

PARTNER EVENTS

Fuck UP NIGHt vienna in partnership with wsa Fuck Up Nights are a global movement and event series that shares stories of professional failure. Entrepreneurs share stories of their business that crashes and burns, the partnership deal that goes sour, the product that has to be recalled, we tell them all. Usually the Fuckup Nights Vienna bring together the local start-up scene in Vienna, but for this special evening in the framework of WSA, the audience and speakers were mixed between the international crowd of WSA and the local scene. Two WSA network members shared their failure stories and the open atmosphere was a great chance for the international WSA entrepreneurs to mingle and network with the scene in Vienna.

JOSEF UMDASCH & WSA CLUBBING @ WELTMUSEUM As WSA afterparty and award ceremony for the Josef Umdasch Researchprize, Umdasch Group and WSA organized a clubbing and closing event for the WSA Global Congress. Local and international entrepreneurs, mentors, jury members, partners and the Umdasch company celebrated until the early morning in the beautiful Weltmuseum.

WSA GLOBAL CONGRESS IMPACT STORIES & FEEDBACK IMPACT STORY Alpha Beat Cancer, Brazil, won the Start-Up Package by the Vienna Business Agency. „This program is changing our lives, guys. You have no idea. I have so much to tell you and so much to thank WSA for. All of us in Beaba repeat the there‘s the Beaba before WSA and Beaba after WSA. We are thinking about going global, designing a new game and will go from non-profit to social business!“

IMPACT STORY goood Mobile & Digital Empowerment Foundation, India. Goood Mobile was invited by WSA as one of the mentees for the 1:1 mentoring session. Their mentor Osama Manzar, founder of the Digital Empowerment Foundation, India did not only provide them with valuable feedback, but inspired them also with his own work. Claudia Winkler from goood Mobile: „In a few days goood customers in Austria and Germany can phone and surf and at the same time without extra cost enable digitally excluded people in India to get a connection. Osama and me met again in Vienna a few weeks after WSA and signed the deal.“

Osama Manzar: „India is a country of deep paradoxes. It has one of the largest populations of connected individuals in the world yet 70 per cent of the population in the country remains unconnected to the Internet, largely due to lack of infrastructure or due to the inability to afford the use of existing infrastructure. In an effort to ensure that price is not a factor for missing out on the digital revolution, Digital Empowerment Foundation has tied up with goood to encourage people in Europe to help rural India get online. Under this collaboration, goood will collect contributions of €3 and €25 in the region from well-wishers. While €3 a month will brig Internet connectivity to an Indian villager who lives in information poverty, €25 a year will bring Internet into the life of an Indian villager and ensure his/her digital literacy. Luckily for us, this new relationship with goood was established at the recently concluded World Summit Awards where DEF Founder-Director Osama Manzar got a chance to meet representatives from goood who were quite intrigued by the work DEF is doing and were more than willing to collaborate to connect the unconnected in India.“ IMPACT STORY Medeja Kuhanec, Slovenia Social Venture who participated through the Social Impact Award at the WSA Mentoring Session „I personally got a lot of advice for my own project from Nkemdilim Begho where she told me that I have to start a community for my project and maybe should make a website or a blog and start there which was my main problem, where to start. I got connected with the Brazilian project Alpha Beat Cancer where I volunteer in translating the game to my language. I also got a great offer to apply to a position with the German company who worked with CellBricks on their project. Made new friends across Montenegro,Italy and Austria! Overall it was such a great experience I want to relive it over and over again!

VIENNA 2018

IMPRESSIONS & EXPERIENCES FROM THE NETWORK “To someone that lives in London and is already used to diversity, it was an even more exciting amalgamation of some of the best innovation that is happening across the world represented by the winners, judges and sponsors. The sheer serendipity of talking to people from different sectors and yet finding so much common ground has led to 10 partnerships that came out of WSA for us from areas as far as Hong Kong to Kenya, truly connecting the Global South and the Global North speaking the common language of ‘change maker’. That entire week of learning and making new connections has given me new ideas and new energy to take our company international, scaling across Kuwait, Indonesia, Hong Kong and multiple African countries, having reflected on the impact that we can have from a traditional Viennese coffee house and nailing down potential partnerships two weeks later in London.” Shwetal Shah, Erase All Kittens, UK, WSA Winner

“Attending the WSA Congress 2018 for me was a great opportunity and honor to be amongst the best in the world. It was a great networking and learning experience with great and creative minds from all over the globe. People were ready and willing to share experiences and help solve each others challenges. I was inspired by the speakers and presenters and was challenged to go away and put into use all that I had learnt in improving our business -TRUCKIT and ultimately meeting some of the global sustainable goals of the UN. The highlight of the congress for me was the presentation of the 17SDGs and my understanding of how they bind us together as a people in the world. Lastly, I will like to acknowledge and appreciate the founder and organizers of this noble event.” Valentine Anozia, UTruckit, Nigeria, WSA Winner

“Running a company is challenging when you‘re young. Surviving cancer also. I also know the world has bigger problems than that, but as we live on our „own bubbles“ sometimes is hard to „live that problems“. Even harder to find solutions that are away from our daily reality. Being on WSA 2018 gave me a huge amplitude of what‘s the world now - and also that people, no matter they conditions are fighting for solutions. It was inspiring to know people and projects that would never pop up under my eyes and also meet in person the creators of projects that I‘ve been admiring for years! I never been in an event that inspired me so much in such multiple ways. I must say a big thank you and hope to be with you again in the next years.” Ludmilla Rossi, Alpha Beat Cancer, Brazil, WSA Winner

APPENDIX 2 WSA Grand jury meeting berlin, 25-28 Oct 2017

The WSA Grand Jury is one of the most important meetings and events in the whole WSA process. Since 2003, WSA has united renowned multimedia experts from all parts of the world - Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania, North and Latin America, and Europe - to learn about and judge the best content and most innovative applications, forming a unique college of evaluation and knowledge. The Grand Jury unites international IT experts forming a multi-stakeholder knowledge panel evaluating all shortlisted submissions in WSA and deciding in a democratic and transparent process on the 40 WSA winners. In 2017 the WSA Grand Jury was hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and organized in the framework of the Ministry´s tech-entrepreneurship initiative Make-IT in Africa. In partnership with WSA, the BMZ identified not only the 40 WSA global winners, but specifically the best African products in each category. In partnership with WSA, the BMZ also identified 24 African lead innovations that were presented at an exhibition at the BMZ, introducing tech innovations from Africa to the public. The Grand Jury members were welcomed at a welcome reception at the Austrian embassy in Berlin.
