WELCOME C O N N E C T 4 I M P A C T – C O N T E N T D R I V E N D I G I TA L I N N O V AT I O N C L O S I N G D I V I D E S

WELCOME TO THE WSA GLOBAL CONGRESS 2021! WELCOME TO A JOURNEY AROUND THE GLOBE! LET´S CONNECT FOR IMPACT.

The global pandemic has broken many relations. Communications have been transferred to online, meetings turned virtual.

Thus, more than ever the challenge is to bridge digital divides. Be it new solutions for remote working, digital health and online education, or gender inequality, environmental challenges and the access to information and infrastructure. The global divides are manifold and affect us all. Reflecting the changes caused by the pandemic, with new economic challenges, or the case of climate crisis and global warming, we see that the divides grow nationally and worldwide. The WSA Global Congress 2021 invites you to act now, to connect4impact and to do so in a measurable manner in the context the UN SDGs and the UN World Summit on the Information Society process!

Questions are: In the face of the current societal challenges, how can digital solutions and interactive applications make a positive contribution? How can international collaboration and knowledge exchange disrupt current nefarious developments? And what benefits are hidden in the digital transformation? I welcome you to the WSA Global Congress. You will meet and join a unique community of purpose driven enthusiasts. They will not be stopped in their commitment to use ICT for the betterment of society. The purpose for most of us going to an event is networking. The serendipity that happens at events is the allure and magnetism that draws people back. Personal meetings and face2face interaction are WSA’s unique community’s

trademark. With Covid-19 outbreaks and travel restrictions across the world, WSA Global Congress will need to go digital and provide an all global journey from America to Oceania. I look forward to welcoming you from all over the world. Participation this year will be even more diverse as the Congress will serve all time zones and thus will break the barriers of international travel. The WSA21 program is full of intense discussion. Interactive sessions will guarantee the formation of like-minded communities, evoking positive change through digital innovation. It might even feel like a family – to Connect4Impact. 2021, we want to deliver proof that online can make us more inclusive and sustainable. The WSA Global Congress presents an exceptional mix of local projects from which we all learn globally.

You will meet 45 award-winning teams with their apps and solutions, carefully selected in a three-stage jury process by outstanding international experts. WSA awardees are impacting the daily lives of millions by meeting deeply rooted needs. They stand out in the ability to combine smart content, social aims, and digital innovation. WSA awardees are winners because they solve real problems: Ranging from a Chinese AI for distance medical screening, an air monitoring application from North Macedonia to a machine learning solution to combat maternal and infant mortality in Nigeria - the 45 winners from 29 countries, selected from over 400 nominations from 182 participating countries, showcase what

digital innovation around the world can do to improve society. During the past 18 years, WSA has established itself with a proven record of accomplishment within the framework of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), mandated by the government of Austria 2003 and implementing the 2005 WSIS Plan of Action. WSA is organised in collaboration with UN organisations such as UNESCO, UNIDO, UNCTAD, UNDESA and ITU. It would like to thank the unique global network of national and corporate experts and all the NGOs, governments, and professional associations who partner with WSA. This allows us to present quality content and digital innovation from over 180 UN-member states and supports a global movement for sustainable digital solutions. I invite you to open your mind, to engage and explore. The three-day program lets you become part of a global community of people committed to using digital technologies as innovative content drivers for the UN SDG’s.

Please join me in thanking speakers and presenters and also all the WSA Global Congress Partners for providing a unique stage to this year’s outstanding purpose driven digital entrepreneurs and creative teams. Engage in and share the power of smart, digital, and social solutions! Connect4Impact! Prof. Dr. Peter A. Bruck Chairperson, on behalf of the WSA Board of Directors and the WSA Team

UNESCO

recognizes that future innovation requires knowledge-based societies and lifelong education ecosystems that nurture and reward imagination, creativity, critical thinking, and a culture of collaboration, empathy and inclusion. Innovation also will depend upon creating new economic livelihoods and opportunities aligned to a green and sustainable planet. Even as we close the global connectivity gap, education on digital skills will be needed, in every community across the world, to help address the spread of online disinformation, which acts in direct opposition to the right to universal access to information, as well as so many of the Sustainable Development Goals: including health, education, cultural diversity, peace building and the health of our climate.

year we saw how the multidimensional challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting socioeconomic crisis, and the ongoing climate emergency have revealed how far we are from creating a truly equal and sustainable future. But these unprecedented crises have also revealed how integral innovation and technology are to the continuity of our lives. Connected to each other like never before, young people are at the center of this effort. Young people want to and already contribute to the resilience of their communities by proposing innovative solutions. Innovation in digital technology will only become more relevant as we look to recover better together, with youth-led innovation in particular playing a central role in ensuring we collectively deliver on the ambitions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

We

live in an ever-more digitalized and connected world with automated devices and algorithms influencing our daily lives in one way or another. This development is set to continue - whether we like it or not - but it is for us to decide how we shape it. Specifically this year the global pandemic demonstrated how much ween need digital tools and content to stay connected, collaborate or teach our children. Young inspiring innovators participating in the World Summit Awards teach us that digitalization can contribute to a more sustainable future; that it is possible to turn the digital revolution we are facing into climate action. They show us that digital transformation can be shaped to ensure it supports transitions towards more sustainable societies and towards taking climate action. What it takes is inventiveness and courage to walk off the beaten track. Qualities also decision makers sometimes need to be reminded of. I would like to thank WSA winners for this re minder – for showing us that digitalization offers countless opportunities helping to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, if we take the right steps – now.

For

all of us, the Covid 19 Pandemic has drastically changed our way of life and work environment in an incredibly short amount of time. Digitalisation saw a tremendous boost and will continue to do so. Digital tools have become ever more valuable and indispensable. Moreover, it looks like many of these changes have come to stay and will shape our economic and social environments in the future. Digitalisation therefore constitutes a huge opportunity in this day and age.

tion with companies. A small number of institutions, such as the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the Austrian Promotional Bank (aws) and the Christian Doppler Research Association (CDG) have been defined as core research promotion institutions by the Research Funding Act (Forschungsfinanzierungsgesetz). This Act was passed in July 2020 and improves planning reliability and predictability for research institutions and for the research community as a whole.

One of the core tasks of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs is to further advance digitalisation and digital transformation in Austria. Widespread mobile phone signature and other reliable authentication methods are of crucial importance in this regard. Furthermore, key technologies such as Artificial Intelligence or Biotechnology will contribute to the success of Austria as a business location, due to their broad field of application.

In parallel, we prepare individuals to adapt to new technologies, which should in turn benefit our economies in the future. The platform “Fit4Internet” is a good example of this.

In order to further push these key technologies, a number of tailor-made research promotion programmes have been set up. They support fundamental and applied research, partly in coopera-

I am convinced that we are thus well prepared to meet present and future challenges.

BIM,

VR, AR…These terms are not dreams of the future, but current technology trends that affect the way we as a company operate and act in our day-to-day business. The Covid-Pandemic is not stopping us, but has shown that global challenges are accelerating the use of innovative technologies. At Umdasch Group, with many different companies and branches under one umbrella, we are continuously involved with new technological trends. Therefore, we need stimulus from within the company, where the Umdasch Group is working on new technologies with numerous projects and initiatives. I believe that change also needs impulse from the outside and the WSA network is an excellent chance to reach a broad audience and open up to external ideas.

I am happy to support the WSA as Austrian initiative, selecting digital solutions for the UN SDGs and want to cordially congratulate the winners of this year.

I am particularly pleased that the youngest member of the Umdasch Group family, our innovation hub Umdasch Group Ventures, has developed this year's challenge and is awarding the Josef Umdasch Research Prize.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

WSA 2020– 2030

Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The 2030

Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

The UN SDGs are the metrics of success for digital content driven solutions and innovative applications The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all". [2] The SDGs, set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030, are part of UN Resolution 70/1, the 2030 Agenda.

8

The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs

The Goals and targets will stimulate action over the next fifteen years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet:

Preamble

People

Peace

Planet

Partnership

This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognise that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will implement this plan. We are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secure our planet. We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets which we are announcing today demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda. They seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what these did not achieve. They seek to realize the human rights of all and to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.

We are determined to end poverty and hunger, in all their forms and dimensions, and to ensure that all human beings can fulfil their potential in dignity and equality and in a healthy environment.

We are determined to protect the planet from degradation, including through sustainable consumption and production, sustainably managing its natural resources and taking urgent action on climate change, so that it can support the needs of the present and future generations.

Prosperity

We are determined to ensure that all human beings can enjoy prosperous and fulfilling lives and that economic, social and technological progress occurs in harmony with nature.

We are determined to foster peaceful, just and inclusive societies which are free from fear and violence. There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development.

We are determined to mobilize the means required to implement this Agenda through a revitalised Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, based on a spirit of strengthened global solidarity, focussed in particular on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable and with the participation of all countries, all stakeholders and all people.

The interlinkages and integrated nature of the Sustainable Development Goals are of crucial importance in ensuring that the purpose of the new Agenda is realised. If we realize our ambitions across the full extent of the Agenda, the lives of all will be profoundly improved and our world will be transformed for the better.

Govstore is a Mexican software framework for public institutions using cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and blockchain. With up to 5 billion people in cities by 2030 worldwide, local governments face an institutional crisis seen in missing revenues, low constituent trust and environmental degradation. The Govstore ecosystem offers access to knowledge and partners, facilitates innovation and safer modernization, distributes development costs and eases technology adoption. Govstore is turning governments across Latin America into integrated platforms of digital services.

JUDY is a platform for lawyers, judges, law students and anyone interested in the law seeking digitized legal materials including statutes and case law in Ghana and Nigeria going back to the 1930s. In addition to its user-friendly interface, the system uses AI to facilitate searches and upgrade content. A team of lawyers edits language, formats judgments and annotates principles established in a case. JUDY’s mission is to support the legal profession and the administration of justice. When lawyers work better, it is easier for people to find justice.

The Phelcom Eyer from Brazil is a high-resolution, non- mydriatic, portable and cloud-connected retinal camera. While access to well-equipped ocular clinics is commonly available only in urban centres, exams are often unaffordable. With the Eyer, health professionals can diagnose challenging eye disorders in remote field campaigns, bedside exams, as well as via telehealth. Primary care exams can be done anywhere, in drug stores, basic health units or in a small general clinic, resulting in better diagnostics and savings for the health sector.

CoronAI from China is designed for real-time medical screening during the Corona pandemic, so as to monitor patients without having to interact with them. Using electrode frequencies tomographic images are formed providing real-time footage of organs to be examined, while maintaining physical distancing. CoronAI reduces diagnostic time and allows patients to conduct scans themselves, as well as share data later.

icolung, an AI-based tool from Belgium, has been developed to analyse chest CT scans for the diagnosis, triaging, and prediction of COVID-19. Fast and accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 is key to appropriate quarantine and therapeutic measures. Standard COVID-19 tests are limited in availability, give positive/negative outcomes with no insight into disease severity, and results are delayed, often delivering false negative results. With icolung, physicians can take faster reliable and more informed treatment decisions, enabling optimal healthcare resource allocation.

KAMU Asthma is a free digital self-management service from Finland to monitor lungs, modified for users in 18 European countries, as a result of the pandemic. Both former COVID-19 patients, as well as people with chronic respiratory conditions benefit from regular lung monitoring resulting in a better balance of treatments and collaboration with professionals. The app allows daily tracking of medication, symptoms and external triggers, results are easily logged and summarized in trend reports. By predicting symptoms or declining lung performance, prompt action can be taken.

CUREosity is a mobile therapy system from Germany using VR technology to activate the neuroplasticity of the brain and restore a patient’s lost abilities. JOSEF UMDASCH RESEARCH PRIZE 2021! In retail and construction, a new era has started: digitalisation transforms these business areas fundamentally! Already, planning of huge construction sites is achieved completely digitally and augmented reality technology supports workers on site. In addition, retail stores use digital solutions to promote their products and their brands and create an unforgettable shopping experience for consumers. We, Umdasch Group Ventures, want to lead this trend of digitalisation in retail and construction! We are the youngest subsidiary and innovation hub of the Umdasch Group. We are incubator, accelerator, company creator, startup investor and above all, a solution provider, focusing exclusively on innovations along the entire building value chain (construction) as well as consumer buying processes (retail). This year, Umdasch Group Ventures is looking for new ideas, technologies or innovative use cases for artificial intelligence and computer vision. About the Josef Umdasch Research Prize: The Josef Umdasch Research Prize was created by the company’s present owners, Hilde Umdasch and Alfred Umdasch, who named the prize after their father - Josef Umdasch. The award was originally initiated in 1990 to support outstanding achievements in research and development.

Since the cooperation with World Summit Awards (WSA) has started in 2018, the Josef Umdasch Research Prize is increasingly aimed at start-ups, entrepreneurs and future-oriented thinkers around the globe who can inspire enthusiasm with an innovative and unique idea.

OUTCOME 87 registrations from 41 different countries ...17 shortlisted ideas ...and 5 finalists

OUR JURY Consisting of members of Umdasch Group, experts from Umdasch Group Ventures and experienced WSA experts

THE PRIZE The winner gets the opportunity to realise the idea with Umdasch Group Ventures
