The fact that the festival is held online is just another proof of how important digital innovations are for the future.

As Regional Minister for Science and Research I am very pleased that Graz is the hosting partner of the European Young Innovators Festival. With nine universities and a high number of research facilities Styria is an international hub of research and knowledge. The exchange of knowledge across borders is essential and an important component of our success story. With a research and development quota of about five percent Styria is the innovation leader in Austria and one of the leading regions in Europe. The main factors of success are the courageous and innovative researchers and companies in our country.

Especially during these challenging times with a global pandemic the climate crises and a potential economic crises, we need to focus on collaboration, think about new and innovative solutions and seek European collaboration.

We need young entrepreneurs like you who shape the future and Europe we want. It is our pleasure to welcoming you in Graz at this festival and I hope you will be able to travel here soon, in order to meet and share your creative ideas and experiences.

I wish you meaningful connections, conversations that turn into collaboration and a sustainable knowledge exchange with people from Graz and all across Europe.

The pandemic has hit Europe and digital is key to how we can deal with it, now and in the years to come.

Young digital solutions offer progress in health, education, environment and climate. With digital, we can stay in touch and connected. The UN SDGs have to be our measurement. The European Young Innovators participants have a commitment to achieving the SDGs

and the positive shaping of the future of Europe. The European Young Innovators highlight purpose driven innovation and entrepreneurship in wonderful and rich ways. The festival is the platform to discuss how we can together shape the Europe we want, how we connect for I­ mpact. Digitally.

Learning while playing. Educraft from Lithuania is a collective learning platform based on the popular computer game “Minecraft”. By simulating real life, students adapt their scientific know-how on various subjects, from physics to mathematics, the Lithuanian language to informatics and in virtual situations.
