osiblemente todos los argentinos, recordemos con alegría, el día en que nuestro Cardenal Jorge Bergoglio fue nombrado Sumo Pontífice y pasó a representar a toda la Iglesia Católica, como Papa Francisco. Sus actos, palabras, y pensamientos, lo han llevado a convertirse en una de las personas más influyentes y respetadas actualmente en todo el mundo. Sus valores, sus ideales, y los cambios positivos que él sueña para este mundo, están altamente relacionados con lo que defendemos y educamos desde el Movimiento Scout. Lo ocurrido el pasado viernes es motivador y emocionante para todos los Scouts del mundo, pero para nosotros, Scouts de Argentina, sin dudas tiene un tinte especial.

En la ciudad del Vaticano, el mediodía del 9 de junio, el equipo técnico de la Fundación Pontificia Scholas Ocurrentes, el Presidente del Comité Scout Mundial, João Armando Gonçalves, y el Director Ejecutivo de Scouts de Argentina, Juan Manuel Salvado, compartieron una reunión histórica, se firmó un acuerdo global de cooperación mutua entre los Directores de la Fundación Pontifica (José María Del Corral y Enrique Palmeyro) y la Organización del Movimiento Mundial Scout.

Más tarde, los presentes se reunieron con el Papa Francisco para el lanzamiento de la Fundación Scholas Ocurrentes en Roma, y junto a diferentes organizaciones convocadas, y con la presencia del Capellán Scout Mundial, Jacques Gagey, conversaron acerca de los alcances del acuerdo logrado entre el Movimiento Scout y la Fundación, dejándolo en manos del Sumo pontífice.

Para sellar ese emocionante momento, el Papa Francisco recibió el pañuelo scout de la OMMS, y nuestro Director Ejecutivo, tuvo la oportunidad de entregarle el pañuelo que representa a nuestros hermanos scouts de la Villa 31. Desde Scouts de Argentina, nos manifestamos orgullosos de haber contribuido con nuestro trabajo, para que tan histórico acuerdo sea sellado, convirtiéndose en el inicio de una fructífera alianza estratégica que permitirá, aún con más fuerzas, seguir construyendo un mundo mejor.

robably all Argentines remember with joy the day that our cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was appointed Supreme Pontiff and became the representative of all the Catholic Church as Pope Francis. His actions, words and thoughts, have taken him to be one of the most influencing and respected people, currently worldwide. His values, ideals, and positive changes he is dreaming for this world, are highly related to the Scouting Movement. What happened last Friday is motivational and emotive to all Scouts of the world. But for us, Scouts of Argentina, undoubtedly has a special connotation.

In the Vatican City, on June the 9th by noon, the technical team of the Pontifical Foundation Scholas Occurrentes, the Chairman of the World Scout Committee, João Armando Gonçalves, and the Executive Director of Scouts de Argentina, Juan Manuel Salvado, shared a historical meeting. They signed a global cooperation agreement between the directors of the Pontifical Foundation, (José María Del Corral and Enrique Palmeyro), and the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Particularly, Scouts de Argentina, who is leading the project.

Later, they met with Pope Francis for lunching the Pontifical Foundation Scholas Occurrentes in Rome. Different organizations invited, and counting with the presence of the World Scout Chaplain, Jaques Gagey, they talked about the scope of agreement reached between the Scout Movement and the Foundation, leaving it in the hands of the Supreme Pontiff. To seal that emotive moment, Pope Francis received the neckerchief of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and our Executive Director had the opportunity to hand over the neckerchief that represents our Scout brothers from Villa 31. From Scouts de Argentina, we are proud to have contributed to our work, so that this historic agreement is sealed, becoming the beginning of a fruitful strategic alliance that will allow, even with more strength, to continue Creating a Better World.

the Workshop on Implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Guide, the participants shared an experience with the athletes of Special Olympics Panama.

El pasado mes de Junio, en el marco del Taller

de implementación de la Guía de Diversidad e Inclusión, se realizó una experiencia de actividades unificadas con los atletas de Olimpiadas Especiales Panamá.

Durante la actividad se conoció la misión de Olimpiadas Especiales, quienes brindan actividades deportivas a personas con discapacidad intelectual.

Los participantes al taller se dividieron en dos grupos para interactuar con los atletas en actividades unificadas de baloncesto y bochas, las cuales fueron coordinadas por Olimpiadas Especiales. Posteriormente, los participantes compartieron con los atletas sus conocimientos sobre nudos.

During the activity the participants got to know the mission of Special Olympics, who offer sports activities to people with intellectual disabilities.

The participants were divided into two groups in order to interact and play with athletes in both basketball and bocce, in unified teams, which was coordinated by Special Olympics. Afterwads, the participants shared their skills on tieing knots with the athletes.

This was a very enriching activity which made it possible to sensitize the participants on the work with people with intellectual disabilities.

En todas las sedes nos sentimos como en casa, en Honduras para la subregión Centroamérica, en Bolivia para la surbregión Cono Sur, en Trinidad y Tobago para la subregión Caribe y en Colombia para la Subregión Andina. Estamos agradecidos con nuestros anfitriones.

El trabajo en redes en la Región Interamericana nos ayuda a: colaborar con el Comité Scout en el desarrollo de las Políticias Regionales, contribuyen a los logros de cada una de las áreas que representan las redes, colaboran con la producción de documentos e instrumentos necesarios en la implementación del Plan Regional. Además son un espacio en donde se intercambian buenas prácticas y experiencias entre Organizaciones Scout Nacionales.

he 2017 Network Meetings were held together, the 5 networks at the same time: Youth Programme, Adults in Scouting, Institutional Development, Youth and Communications. And to approach the NSOs, were carried out by subregions: Central America, South Cone, Caribbean and Andean.

Working in networks for the Interamerican Region allow us: to collaborate with the Interamerican Scout Committee in the development of the Regional Polices, contribute to the achievements of each of the areas represented by the networks, collaborate with the creation of documents and instruments needed in the implementation of the Regional Plan. They are a space where good practices and experiences are exchanged between National Scout Organizations.

It was emphasized that all the participants recognized their role in the importance of their work in the Regional Plan 2016-2018 “Mission Possible” and how can we achieve it. In addition, collaboration between networks was promoted. There were several sessions where two or more networks also discussed common themes, to produce complementary results.

Se dio énfasis a que todos los participantes reconocieran su papel en la importancia del trabajo en el Plan Regional 2016-2018 “Misión Posible” y así logremos concretarlo.

Adicionalmente se promovió la colaboración entre redes. Se tuvieron varias sesiones en donde dos o más redes también trataron temáticas en común, para producir resultados complementarios.

¿Quién ha entrado a una casa y de inmediato por la decoración, olor, texturas, materiales y luz, se ha sentido en casa, o Alguna vez se ha dado tanta curiosidad al ver un edificio de alta teconología o espacios ámplios?

Who has entered a house and inmediately felt at home, due to the smells, textures, materials and light, or have you ever had the curiosity to see a high tech building with large spaces?

Si te has pasado haz sido preso del lenguaje no verbal de la arquitectura. Para los que nunca han estudiado ni 5 minutos arquitectura, se los explico. Los espacios cuando se diseñan, siguen un propósito y todo lo que este dentro, nos ayuda a sentirnos y entender qué hacer. Por ejemplo unas escaleras: probablemente nadie te ha explicado que sirven para subir o bajar de niveles en un edificio, pero lo sabes, simplemente recorres el espacio arriba o/y abajo y listo, este es el lenguaje no verbal de la arquitectura, cuando tienes espacios o elementos que por ellos mismo explican su función.

If that has happened to you, you have been capture by the non verbal language of architecture. If you don´t know anything about architecture or even studied for 5 minutes, I will explain that to you. When architects design spaces, they follow their function, and everything that is inside the space helps un understand it. For example stairs, probably no one has ever tell that the serve to go up and down levels in a building, but you know it, you can go up to and down to levels, that is the the non verbal language of architecture, when you have a space or element which its function is self-explanatory.

En abril y mayo estuvimos visitando las 4 subregiones por las reuniones de Redes, y tuve la pude conocer varias Sedes Scout Nacionales. Y reflexioné un poco acerca de lo que estamos comunicando como Scouts a través de los lenguajes no verbales de la arquitectura.

During April and May we visited many countries, due to the Subregional Network meetings. I had the chance to now some National Scout Headquarters. I reflected about what we were communication as Scout with the non verbal languages of architecture.

Primero debemos comunicar que somos la sede de la Organización Mundial del Movimiento Scout en nuestros lugares, por lo tanto, un signo exterior de la Flor de lis o la Marca Scout sería un punto de partida, como lo tiene la Asociación de Scouts de Honduras, que en su fachada principal tenemos la Marca Scout. Para algunos podrá parecer un poco escandaloso, pero es importante hacernos notar, con el simple boca a boca no basta. Es importante poner el signo para que luego la arquitectura pueda hablarnos.

First we need to communicate that we are the official venue of the World Scout Organization Movement, in our localities. Hence an exterior sign with the Fleur de lis, or the Scout Brand will be a starting point. As the Honduras Scout Association has in its main façade. For some this might be a little it outrageous but it is important to stand out, that people drivin through know, there are Scouts. With the the worth to mouth location is nor enough.

It is important to have the external sign so that the architecture can speak.

Lo segundo es que los espacios sean acogedores. Para lograr espacios acogedores habrá que pensar en la proporción adecuada de los espacios, iluminación y ventilación adecuadas, en donde el usuario se sienta cómodo para realizar las acciones necesarias. Utilizar materiales simples, usualmente en bruto y del lugar, ahorrarán notablemente los costos de constucción y manteniemiento de las Sedes Scout Nacionales. Las paredes en acabado natural o pintura de tono neutros y claros proveerán ese espacio de bienvenida, además de ser un lienzo en blanco para los reconocimientos y recuerdos que los visitantes dejan en los Centros Scout.

Second we need confortable spaces. To achieve confortable places is necessary to think in the proportion, proper ilumintion and ventilation, thinking in how the user is comfortable to perform the necessary actions. Use simple materials, ususally raw and local materials, with you will recude the costs of construction and maintenance of the Nacional Scout Headquarters. It is recomendad that walls are left in their raw material finish or use light neutral colors, giving the place a certain feeling of welcome, by being a white canvas for the recognizions and presents that visitors leave behind.

Estos son simplemente 2 elementos que debemos de considerar a la hora de pensar en nuestros espacios en cuánto a los lenguajes no verbales. Sin embargo me queda la reflexión en cómo hacer espacios cada vez más inclusivos, inteligentes, más divertidos, más lúdicos, que promuevan el ahorro energético, que ofrezcan un ingreso adicional a las organizaciones, que dialógen mejor con su entorno.

These were simply 2 elements that we should consider when thinking about our spaces in terms of non-verbal architectural languages. However I´m still reflecting on how to Scouting spaces more inclusive, intelligent, fun, educational, that promote energy saving, may become offer an additional income to organizations and have a better dialogue with their environment.

ando continuidad al convenio establecido entre la Oficina Scout Mundial- Centro de Apoyo Interamerica y Olimpiadas Especiales Latinoamérica, el 22 de abril de 2017 se desarrolló una sesión dentro del Congreso Regional de Atletas Líderes, evento enmarcado en las actividades de los III Juegos Latinoamericanos de Olimpiadas Especiales realizados en Ciudad de Panamá.

En el evento se contó con la participación de 16 p e r s o n a s provenientes de 14 países del continente, los mismos p u d i e r o n conocer un poco más, desde la visión Scout, los tipos de liderazgos, el rol del adulto como líder y cómo desarrollar cualidades que favorecen el liderazgo.

Igualmente se enfatizó en la importancia de formar parte de actividades de este tipo, ya que estrechan los esfuerzos por cumplir con los objetivos establecidos dentro de la prioridad estratégica de diversidad e inclusión, la cual aporta a alcanzar nuestra Visión 2023.

Agradecemos a Olimpiadas Especiales Latinoamérica por permitirnos ser parte de este evento y por continuar de manera conjunta aportando a la construcción de un mundo mejor.

ollowing up with the agreement established between the World Scout Bureau - Interamerican Support Center and Special Olympics Latin America, on April 22, 2017, was held a session within the Regional Congress of Leaders Athletes, an event framed in the activities of the III Latin American Games of the Special Olympics celebrated in Panama City.

The event was attended by 16 people from 14 countries of the continent, they were able to know a little more, from the Scout vision, the types of leadership, the role of the adult as a leader and how to develop qualities that favor the leadership.

It was also emphasized that the importance of being part of activities of this type strengthened the efforts to fulfill the established objectives within the strategic priority of diversity and inclusion, which contributes to reach our Vision 2023.

We thank Special Olympics Latin America for allowing us to be part of this event and for continuing jointly contributing to creating a better world.
