Background Ofthe Study

As of 2021, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office 5 recorded a total of 23 OSAEC encompassing cases of online sexual exploitation, violation of anti-voyeurism, and sex extortion.

Recorded cases can be found in three provinces: Camarines Sur (21), Catanduanes (1), and Albay (1).

WHY CONDUCT THE STUDY?

Cases in the region are noted to be affected by the lack of awareness of the victims and their families on OSAEC and the risks that they pose.

WHY CONDUCT THE STUDY?

Family and community practices and beliefs may have contributed to the toleration of OSAEC cases especially since most of the OSAEC cases in the region are likely to be found in rural areas than in urban areas.

WHY CONDUCT THE STUDY?

Knowing the different factors influencing the prevalence of OSAEC in the region can help in crafting different advocacy and intervention programs that can help in preventing the occurrence of future cases.
