Equal,& Forever... Kamil on the Cover...
Hello everyone welcome to the very first print edition of equal Magazine. My name is Shelley Rodgers and I am the owner and founder of Equal Magazine. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself how “Equal” came to be and what it is all about. In a nutshell the birth of Equal Magazine evolved from a life and death scenario. It was completely organic, non contrived and totally unforeseen.
I am an artist, a professional photographer with a Masters Degree in Fine Art Photography. I have achieved over 20 front covers in Northern Ireland. Several of those front cover features were for The Ulster Tatler, Ulster Life, Ulster Bride and Northern Shelley Rodgers Women. I’ve had my work published on many Editor and Founder billboards across Belfast City and have had the privilege to shoot the work of Vivienne Westwood. My main Job (with tenure) was having the further privilege to teach special needs children and other people photography for 15 years at SERC in my hometown of Bangor in County Down Northern Ireland. Equal Magazine has now become a beautiful and strong platform showcasing, advertising, promoting and celebrating the amazing talent that many people and artists have on a local and international level which can go largely unseen at times in both commercial and alternative realms. As an artist I am very fond of most forms of art. That is why Equal is diversely inclusive to all walks of life. I hope Equal eclectically evolves emanating euphoric emotions. Equal includes Photography, Beauty, Fashion, Culture, Art, Dancers, Music, Sports and Businesses. EQUAL means for me Equality, Quality in Unison with Art and Love. Equal gives everyone especially within the creative alternative arts the opportunity to shine and some within the commercial realms as it is embracive of both. Today we live in an amazing world. We have always lived in an amazing world. Who knows where our world and we as a human race will be in the next 50 years. I hope it is a wonderful place, I hope it is a wonderful race, I hope you enjoy the magazine and I hope you all have a wonderful day... I hope ! Aleah Leigh
Designer and Creative Director
Aleah Leigh is a highly creative fashion designer and creative director from London. Having a flare for creating something out of nothing, not only making dresses from recycled materials but building houses out of wine bottles too it seems Aleahs creativity has no limits and she strongly believes that most things we throw away can be reused. Aleah says “anything can be anything it is up to you to create it”. Aleah has worked with Ashley Roberts from Pussy Cat Dolls, Air New Zealand, Runway to L.A to premier league football players. She is planning her next runway which will include another world first dress, hoping to break another world record having already been in the Guinness book of records before for making the worlds first dress specifically designed to go over a wheel chair. Proceeds go to “No to dog meat” charity towards building a medical centre in China for the dogs. Not only is Aleah a highly rated creative her daughter Olivia Leigh James is gaining an industry belt just like her mother (also known as the dragon Lady of Directors).
Mini Dragon just recently landed a role in a feature film coming out later this year, which has a cast list including Luke Evens and Kellie Reiley called 10 times 10. Aleah Leigh has showcased her work for the first time in Northern Ireland at Belfast Alternative Fashion Week (BAFW) in late 2016 to great applause and through her impressive work and extensive experience has even decided to help extend the franchise into London beginning with working on the first Equal London Magazine. Like it’s sister magazine “Equal” that you are reading now these shows could also be a live extension of that magazine just as BAFW was for this one. Not only does Aleah Leigh make fantastic works of fashion from recycling materials she has also an acute and very desirable talent in making high end commercial fashion and underwear. Aleahs style is fully across the board and to a very high standard in both spectrums of her field. She always delivers with excellent style and a potent passion. 5

Hi, my name is Emma Gilles and I am the creator and owner of the Crafty Belfast brand and I can’t believe that Crafty is now in the place I always dreamed it would be. Fellow creatives from all walks of life whom I respect are wearing crafty wink clothing. From my love of styling and colouring hair & making simple beaded hair clips way back in 1999 and before I knew I didn’t always want to do 'just' hairdressing. I knew I wanted to be creative in other ways, so I turned to customising clothes to sell in my salon. I had always had my own way of tweaking my own clothes to make them unique to me. In 2010 'Crafty Belfast was recognised as Belfast’s first concept store and I was nominated for an MBA. When Crafty Belfast came up on the screen at the city hall event as 4th shortlisted out of 50 individuals & multimillion pound companies across Ireland for innovation & excellence. The Lyric Theatre won 1st place and rightly so. I was in shock. It was the first time anyone had created a concept store and I had done it in Belfast. Crafty Belfast was a retail shop art gallery, tearoom and hair salon. It sold an array of items from fine art, antiques, design, independent designer wares, junk, kitsch and a load crap ta boot. Tea n Tunes afternoons on a Saturday afternoon was bonkers with BYO and cheese boards galore. It was even listed as a go see for inspiration by the Art College. The Guardian wrote a piece in their Cool Britannia issue which I think sums up what the shop was like although add a sprinkle of black books and you've got it to a tee. 10
THAT WAS THEN AND THIS IS NOW Crafty Belfast has evolved into an ethical lifestyle brand and the concept has had the luxury of being able to be transferred from a stagnant retail shop to one that can go on tour and be alive online. Selling all sorts of handpicked design objet d'art. My sustainable clothing collection #Craftylabel couture street wear is currently being sold in Camden in London. My hairstyling services I’m grateful for are now freelance which allows me to be able travel to any event or festival and to and fro to London as and when I need to be there at a whim. My private custom hair and clothing workshop is based in Co Down. If you wish to book an appointment with me at my private country workshop get intouch via message - FB, Twitter, Instagram, Soundcloud @craftybelfast, #creativeswearcrafty You can buy #craftylabel through any our social media sites and through our online shop. Check out the events/festivals we will be hosting or attending randomly throughout the year too. www.crafty-belfast.com We daydream for a living. Crafty consults on all levels boutique to big. For everything you'll ever need to keep it creatively green #keepitcrafty ;) Crafty ;) Design since 1999

David Henderson Imagination and creativity that is unique and captivating
David Henderson’s imagination and creativity is unique and captivating. With high quality craftsmanship David has mastered the art of stitching leather and printing on dresses. With this fusion the combination is both fascinating and mesmerizing. David has had his work published many times on the front cover of the Ulster Tatler, Ulster Life and much more. The Northern Ireland designer has raised the template for other designers across Ireland and his work has adorned many catwalks including the famous and historic Belfast Alternative Fashion Week of 2016 which was the first Alternative Fashion show of it’s kind ever held in Ireland. David also makes commercial designs as well as alternative creations. His new business is called Made & Measured which is a new garment alterations and repair shop, specialising in bespoke ladies wear design. Located at the heart of Moira village main street, Northern Ireland. David is also the designer, creator and owner at Inverse Couture where they say “Dare to be DIFFERENT! Miss O'Strophic Couture As you can see from these amazing images Kat O’Strophic draws her inspiration from the sartorial elegance of bygone years, where quality and detailed attention to all aspects of garment making was the norm. Whether you require a vintage wedding dress, statement-coat, cloak, or distinctive quirky one-of-a-kind accessories, each piece is an absolutely unique creation hand-woven over weeks. Every single bead, feather or sequin in the design is hand stitched in a labour love to bring about the creation of something very special. To begin with, Miss Kat O’Strophic will arrange an appointment at her studio to discuss ideas and fabric choices. Measurements are taken and a toile will be made for you. This s to ensure a perfect fit and to give you an idea of what the garment will look like when made in the fashion fabric. To ensure the garment is perfect for you, a second toile may be necessary in some cases. Miss O’Strophic also enjoys renovating and restoring original vintage pieces to their former glory, giving them another day in the sun. Sometimes the vintage garment may be crumbling and cannot be restored and in these cases the item can be remade into new fabric. Many of the previously made garments are available for hire for photo shoots. Contact Miss O’Strophic to discuss. Kat is on Facebook and her website is www.missostrophic.com 14

DAMON ARMSTRONG My name is Damon Armstrong and I am a bar manager in The Ivory Restaurant in Belfast. To be honest I had never really given much thought to modelling until a friend of mine encouraged me to attend a casting call for “ACE” The Alternative Commercial Equal Agency. I thought to myself, "What's the harm", and went along to it. I actually didn't think beyond that day what would happen! After the casting I received a call back that they wanted to see me again, I was surprised but also very excited! Having no previous experience within the modelling industry I have certainly come a long way. Working with various designers (some of which are the most talented designers in Ireland) on numerous shoots has been fantastic. I quickly got into the swing of things and working with ACE has been brilliant. They have provided me endless support and advice throughout my journey and I have a special appreciation for Shelley Rodgers and Kieran Sherry. This is definitely not something I ever seen myself doing but I am so grateful my friend encouraged me to attend that first casting.

I have been involved in various shoots and fashion shows including the famous ‘Belfast Alternative Fashion Week’ and while it is a little nerve-racking at first it is an incredible feeling after, though a little strange to see myself in videos and photos. I am looking forward to what the future brings and excited about new ventures that are up and coming in 2017. I would honestly suggest to anyone who has ever thought about a career in modelling or like me has been encouraged to try it, to go ahead and attend a casting, sure “What’s the harm”!!For me it's been an amazing experience and I have never looked back! 17
Conchobhar Corbmac MacDaibhidh also known as King Cormac Conchobhar Corbmac MacDaibhidh ( pronounced in English, Conor Cormac Davidson ) is an up and coming male model and professional photographer from Bangor County Down Northern Ireland. Conchobhar made his modelling face known to the local Belfast and Dublin fashion scene by appearing in Style Warriors 2 in Swords Dublin and Belfast Alternative Fashion Week both held in 2016. Immediately Conchobhar was a favourite with everyone with his awesome beard and moustache, vintage suits, modern accessories, mohawk hair, gentlemanly and courteous personality. Everyone thought a lead character from The Vikings or Game of Thrones just walked in through the door. Conchobhar’s experience as a photographer means he knows how to strike a cool pose every time which lends itself very well when being photographed at fashion shows. When modelling Conchobhar at time goes by the alternative name "King Cormac" taken from the fair ancient King of Ireland Cormac mac Airt (son of Art), also known as Cormac ua Cuinn (grandson of Conn) or Cormac Ulfada (long beard) who was, according to medieval Irish legend and historical tradition, a High King of Ireland. He is probably the most famous of the ancient High Kings and may have been an authentic historical figure, although many legends have attached themselves to him, his reign is variously dated as early as the 2nd century and as late as the 4th. He is said to have ruled from Tara, the seat of the High Kings of Ireland, for forty years, and under his rule Tara flourished. He was famous for his wise, true, and generous judgments.

Marinalva (Mari) de Almeida Marinalva (Mari) de Almeida, an accomplished athlete represented her home country of Brazil in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. On January 18th 2017 Mari was a participant in the 17th season of BIG BROTHER BRAZIL, reality show of Rede Globo. Mari was the first person in her country with disabilities featured in the history of the programme. Mari was eliminated on April 9, 2017 with 77.17% of the vote when she ran the wall with Marcos Harter, ranking fifth in the competition. Not only is Mari a model for the fashion industry, but also a role model for people with disabilities. Mari lost her left leg at age 15 as a result of a motorcycle accident, but that somehow turned her into a more extraordinary person. Her athletic debut was in track and field, where she broke the national record in her class at both the long jump and javelin throw events. She gained further recognition by being the first amputee woman to complete long distance foot races (10 to 21 km) on crutches in Brazil. But it was in adapted sailing that Mari went the farthest. She competed in the Adapted Sailing World Championships in the Netherlands between May 24th and 28th, 2016, in preparation for the Games in Rio in September. Mari makes a point not to hide her disability and displays a disconcerting sense of confidence and togetherness, as she naturally goes out and about, either wearing prostheses or on crutches. 20
“...believe in your dreams and go after them wholeheartedly, you won’t believe what amazing things can happen!...” In people’s minds, a disabled person and a beautiful woman by definition dot not fit together, and often fall in boxes that are diametrically opposed. Very often, the sight of Mari graciously strutting around on a high heel, walking down the catwalk, or deftly running a half marathon on crutches stuns people as they are forced to reconcile these two impossible features in one person. Mari often say’s “Don’t let other people tell you what you can or cannot do! Believe in your dreams and go after them wholeheartedly, you won’t believe what amazing things can happen!”

Designer, International Male Model & Creative Director Gordon Flynn is an extremely memorable name, with echoes of the dashingly handsome hero Flash Gordon and the romantic swashbuckling Hollywood hero Errol Flynn it is hard to imagine anything could go wrong with this name and, well you would be correct.
GORDON FLYNN Designer: Dee Graham Photographer: Conor Kerr @ BAFW
Gordon Flynn is a national and international leading male model, a fashion designer who also has his own PR company Gordon Flynn PR. He is also an avid creative director for fashion shows. Gordon has been on the world stage in the fashion industry for many years modelling and showcasing his designs and never fails to impress, walking in L.A Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan, Japan, all over Europe and more recently Ireland…. the list just goes on and on, if there is a catwalk to be walked, Gordon is likely to have walked it. To top it all off he is creative director in a cool shop in Camden market in London called “Fashion Meets Music” that even has a red carpet in it if you feel the urge to strut in a new outfit when you try it on. Gordon’s extensive knowledge of the industry has gained him a lot of respect within it’s circles and provided him with the privileged and advantageous insight of how the wild and wide world of fashion grows and evolves, what is in fashion, what is not, why its cool and why its not, who is going to be the next big thing, Gordon Flynn will fill you in ! Accruing some great nicknames along the way like The Godfather of London Fashion, The Godfather of Dublin and Irish Fashion, The Prodigal Son of Fashion, The Wild Rover of Fashion, Gordon is worthy of them all. His personality is consistently charming, gentlemanly and very witty which quickly gains him huge adoration and respect especially when he is in his creative director mode. Gordon’s expertise and infectious good nature rubs off on everyone which is probably, along with his handsome features is why he gets to catwalk the world over and be a part of the very successful shop in Camden Town in London where he says "I can also place designers in store giving them the opportunity to sell".

Sarah Vogel AKA Bluebird De L'Absurde
Sarah Vogel AKA Bluebird De L'Absurde is a petite alternative model based in Dublin,Ireland. With a background in dance and theatre, she describes her modelling as a quirky fusion of these passions. "I was working as an actress when I got my first modelling call. It was for an Irish gothic designer who I had been recommended to by a DP I'd recently worked with. That was 5/6 years ago & I've been working as a model ever since" Some of this work has included repeat publications with Bizarre Magazine & Irish National publication GCN, to walking for designers such as Claire Garvey & Niamh Corazon. "Think I'm the first "alternative" model that has appeared on both Xpose and Ireland AM's fashion segments. I'm very proud of that because of the common niche Alt models are put into. When most people think of 'Alt' they think 'fetish work' & associated styles, but some of the most amazing editorial, fashion and beauty models I've seen lately have been alternative. The Alt look is becoming more current and sought after, which is fantastic because until recently I felt they didn't get equal respect in the industry due to this automatically "edgy" preconception.Claire Garvey nicknamed me The Chameleon & I wear that like a badge of honour." Sara's desire for tattooed models to be equal within the mainstream continues to push her to new bounds and break new grounds. "Sara is the hardest working model out there, she will do just about anything to help get the best possible shot. The woman is a force of nature!" Says -Ms Hazel Coonagh.

Sara also possesses skills in styling, hair & make up and has great enthusiasm for creative direction for many of her shoots bringing not just a pretty face to an image but a solid knowledge of references and styles, this is an all round creative and intelligent model.

Introducing
Cathy Cobane Cathy Cobane is a 23 year old qualified Level 3 Beauty Therapist from County Tyrone. Cathy has completed her studies including Artificial Nail Structures, Fashion & Photographic Makeup Courses at South West College Omagh and is now currently seeking part-time employment in the Beauty industry which she believes will complement her lifestyle and that of her young son.
30
Having a natural flair for art, Cathy enjoys creating make-up looks and gel nails. Cathy has showcased both these talents on herself for previous photoshoots where she participated as an alternative model demonstrating also her passion for Japanese style tattoos. By participating in this venture she says she "I have had the pleasure of working with Declan Burke, Image 31 Photography, Karolina Wiatr, Norm Keilty and Agnes & Eric Photography. I was
"...My plans for the future include working as a Make-up Artist backstage for models, with collaborations of my own, alongside photographers and designers..." also privileged to have been asked by Charity Boxing Event manager, Ciaran Donnelly, to participate as ring girl to raise money in aid of MS and Roscavey Primary School on 15th October 2016 in Kelly’s Inn, Garvaghy" Cathy goes onto say " Since then, Shelley Rogers and Kieran Sherry, Founder and Co. Editor of Equal Fashion Magazine had given me a tremendous opportunity to partake in Belfast Alternative Fashion Week 2016 and, furthermore, become an IKON OF ACE The Alternative Commercial Equal Agency. My role in the catwalk was to model for stylist Binder Tohani, where I personified two of the ten concepts she had envisioned, illustrating the proud peacock and representing the moon, brought to life by the rich sensuous fabrics, lush embroideries, and head jewellery of Indian culture, which framed her henna inspired body art, makeup and hair". Not only is does Cathy make a wonderful model but she delights us further by saying "My plans for the future include working as a Make-up Artist backstage for models, with collaborations of my own, alongside photographers and designers"

Inga Persephone I have three big passions in my life – books, arts and travelling. Whenever I have an opportunity I travel. I’ve always had a dream to move from my homeland, I felt different from most of the people, a stranger. I remember myself and my best friend making a promise to each other that one day we’re going to live abroad. So we both kept that promise. I’ve moved to Ireland 6 years ago and had no regrets since then. From the first days I was overwhelmed by the beauty of Irish landscape, kindness and friendliness of people. Most of my favourite musicians, writers, legends and myths were born in Ireland. Since I came here I felt a strange feeling that I belonged here and nowhere else. I believe that the real home is where your heart is and if you feel that something’s not right – change it! The Emerald Island met me with arms wide open. Designer: David Henderson Jewellery: Doris Hermann Make Up: Julia Clements Photography & Hair: Shelley Rodgers 32
I’ve worked as a promoter’s assistant and in my free time I’ve started to design greeting cards and opened my little online shop. I'm very passionate about what I do. I also sell at various craft fairs from time to time. It’s a great way to meet new people, to share the ideas.
“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken” I decided to go back to what I always wanted to do, but never had a normal chance. I tried some modelling in my home country, but i had a very bad experience in that area. My “career” ended when some other girls and I were offered to work in the porn industry. That was the end of it. I’ve never went back to modelling there again until I came to Ireland. Step by step I started working with the local photographers, designers, makeup artists. To me the best part of modelling is meeting talented, creative people, sharing the ideas, making new friends. It's not only about the results. It's about the whole process. Recently some of my works had been noticed by the amazing Ace The Alternative Commercial Equal Agency and I was offered to become the Face of Belfast Alternative Fashion Week. That was beyond my expectations. I'm feeling so grateful to all the amazing people I've worked with and to those who believed in me. I’d like to finish by quoting my absolutely favourite writer and my biggest inspiration Oscar Wilde: “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken”.

Chloe Aboud
I'm Chloe Aboud, a student of Trinity College Dublin & an elite athlete! I've always taken both my studies and training seriously. It has been a dream to attend Trinity College which stands as a monument of Irish education. I am currently living that dream! Another dream of mine has been to compete at the highest possible level of my chosen sport. I've been competing internationally from the time I was 8 years old & by the time I was 18 I joined the Olympic style of Taekwondo & strived to adapt my body and mind to becoming an international elite Olympic athlete. In 2015 my dream came true to compete at an Olympic event & I attended the European Games in Baku. The next couple of months were looking promising after competing every month internationally & having also participated in the world championships, it was becoming clear that I would be selected to represent Ireland at the European Olympic qualifying event. Unfortunately, I broke my ankle at a regular training session 6 weeks before flying out to the qualifying event. So any chance I had of going to Rio to represent Ireland in the Olympics was lost. I decided to come back even stronger & more determined after this injury & began competing again after a couple of months, only to completely rupture 2 ligaments in my other ankle at a local Irish competition last September. Again this meant a further time out to recover. During both injury time outs I got a chance to develop my modelling career. It has always been a passion of mine & has always allowed me to completely step outside the intense studying & training aspect of my life & be completely encapsulated in a new world! At the moment I am trying to balance all of my passions. However, after my studies, Taekwondo is my main focus. I am currently injury free (touch wood), back competing & will be travelling to Luxembourg next month to compete at my first international competition in nearly a year!

Never give up on your dreams & aspirations, I've discovered I can do anything I put my mind and heart to & of course you can to, I'm no different to any other individual with a dream & goals in mind. I was over the moon when asked to model at the first ever alternative fashion show to be held in Ireland, at Belfast Alternative Fashion Week. It was out of this world and so much fun.

Rachel Love "one of my favourite things about modelling, it introduces you to so many fantastic people Rachel Love is currently 19 years old and has been modelling for the past four years. Having always enjoyed going to fashions shows, looking at the photographs in magazines and seeing people modelling online, Rachel knew she wanted to work towards being involved in the fashion world herself. "I did my first shoot when I was 15, out at Crawfordsburn Beach with a local photographer. It was thanks to him that I gained the confidence to start seeking out more opportunities. I mainly do bridal, beauty, commercial and catwalk work". Recently Rachel has been involved in Belfast Alternative Fashion Week (BAFW).She says "It was so refreshing to get to see a different side to the modelling world. I've always loved the more alternative and creative side to life, but haven't always had the chance to embrace it the way I was encouraged to for BAFW". Rachel also tells Equal Fashion Magazine "That is one of my favourite things about modelling, it introduces you to so many fantastic people, both in terms of talent and personality. “...I love diversity in people...” Daniela is a 42yr old single mother of 4 who believes your never too old to start something new and when she was scouted in the summer 2016 by Angel Sinclair of Models of Diversity London, she saw an opportunity to showcase mature models and mums in a different light. Daniela was in a very difficult relationship and breaking free has given her the mind set of always being open to new things, she now trains in Muay Thai with the intention of having at least 1 fight saying “I want to set an example to my children and to women that being over 40 doesn't mean you have to look and dress a certain way” 40
Daniela goes on to say “I love diversity in people and piercings and tattoos are one of the best forms of expression, along with clothing, hair and make up. Modelling is an amazing avenue to explore diversity. My adventure in modelling is just beginning, I'm building my portfolio and I've shot with some fantastic photographers and this makes such a difference. I want to take this as far as I can go, with photography and catwalk, always pushing the boundaries of people's perception of age and beauty”

wecancervive ni Having previously brought another project on cancer awareness to fruition, it was decided to launch wecancervive ni. Our main objective is to use a psycho-social approach during learning in order to help engender a greater empathy and holistic awareness among those in the health and social care sectors, regarding the personal experience of people being treated for cancer. We want to show medical and nursing students, ancillary staff, social workers, community workers etc, how those, some in remission and some who are living with the disease, can pass on their many and varied experiences to others. They have a role, they have a family and they carry with them a cocktail of countless emotions and feelings. By providing our input through interactive workshops and tutorials, we can, by experiential learning and role play, pave the way and enhance the assimilation of empathy in learners. The lesson is that cancer can be survived but usually at the cost of numerous visits and stays in hospital at an extremely vulnerable and frightening time. We would like to share our experiences and hope that learners can empathise and apply the knowledge and soft skills they gain from the sessions to their everyday practice. It is also envisaged that learners will keep an ongoing and reflective journal of a patient, for a length of time, as he or she goes through their treatment pathway. The survivors’ role is to
talk to learners, share their real life experiences, take part in role play if appropriate and answer any questions. They will also be showing their scars and living aids to the learners to further reinforce the learning experience. Life size pull up banners, depicting our team of survivors, will be used during each session as a learning aid. The members of our project, including us, have experienced many types of cancer, ranging from tongue, breast, ovary, rare brain sarcomas, cancers requiring limb amputation to preventative double mastectomy, on a 27 year old woman, due to carrying the BRCA breast cancer gene. All the survivors and those living with cancer have a story to tell. We believe that everyone who participates in our sessions will take something away with them that will enrich their lives. We are not out on a crusade or to ‘sabre rattle’. Our goal is to emphasise how important empathy is when dealing with a patient, especially one who’s could be life limited. Ray and I have over thirty years of experience in developing and delivering training in all areas from brain injury rehab, young offenders, to the public service scientific area. We are fully qualified in all aspects of developing and delivering accredited training and health and social welfare and would welcome the opportunity to use our expertise and knowledge in the way we envisage. Role play is used as an assessment tool in many recruitment processes, especially nursing. We feel that there is a place for this to be ongoing – especially for consolidation of prior learning and for continuing self-development in empathy and other soft skills. We would welcome the opportunity of discussing this further and giving you a short presentation, if possible. We are completely flexible as to time and location and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Doris Hermann Jewellery maker “What I like most, is to show people the aesthetics of scrap. All cuttings are being used as they arise. And most of my creations evoke intuitively. Honestly speaking, very often I am myself actually quite surprised at the results." 48
"Some of the most beautiful things in life are often hidden in plain sight."
Doris Herman is a Jewellery maker from Rheinbrohi Germany. Her stunning Jewellery is the perfect syzygy between husband and wife. Doris collects the tiny pieces of scrap metal and wood carvings and other various minute cut offs from her husbands work shed and transforms them into these delicate and beautiful pieces of creative artistic jewellery. This wonderful work by Doris has spurned her husband further and he now tries to find more new intricate pieces of minute shavings in his shed. This technique could easily inspire a lot more new ways of shaving methods to create many more interesting and intricate forms of Jewellery . It is truly amazing how something taken for granted by most can be turned into such beautiful creative works of artistic Jewellery and inspire your imagination in the same breathless moment. Time and time again it has been said "some of the most beautiful things in life are often hidden in plain sight."
The Beginning and the Aesthetics of Scrap. When Doris Hermann after a long pause picked up abstract painting as a hobby again in 2014, she could not have imagined that she ended up in creating unique jewellery one day. At the same time her husband surely could have not imagined that the discarded metal from his company would once be part of an international fashion show but it’s just been this discarded metal which has made the difference.
the tiny, stiff and sharp edged metal cuttings with soft pastes, chalk, crystals, and various colours garnered a lot of attention right from the start - not only in Germany. In May 2016, Shelley Rodgers discovered MetalVlorphose’s unique jewellery and invited her to showcase at the Belfast Alternative Fashion Show. “Getting to know Shelley Rodgers was surely one of the best things that happened to me in 2016. Showcasing my jewellery at Alternative Fashion Week did not only push my creativity immensely, but also helped me to establish international contacts.“
While for most people, it’s just industrial waste, for Doris the metal scrap has always been both the inspiration and the base of her creativity. As MetalVlorphose she used rather big metal shavings for her mixed media paintings in the beginning. However, soon the house was not big enough to hang up all the paintings and Doris had to find new ways to present her beloved scrap.
One year after her plunge into jewellery, Doris has not only created necklace pendants but also bespoke accessories like chokers or headpieces for role-players and burlesque dancers.
In February 2016, she created her first tiny collages inside amulets. Inspired by organic shapes, the unique combination of

Jayne Daley From a young age I always knew Beauty was going to be something I pursued. I lifted a makeup brush when I was 12 years old and to this day still haven’t put them down. Mind you my application with them has definitely improved! To pursue my dream in the Beauty industry I went on to qualify as a Beauty, Holistic, Make-up and SFX Artist. As my passion for Beauty evolved so did my creativity for other hobbies. One day I picked up a brush, but this time it wasn’t a makeup brush it was a painting brush, I had this new found love for not only painting faces but for painting pictures. As my skill grew I was lucky enough to appear on Channel 4 at the Watercolour Challenge, which then sparked my love with the Media and Film Industry. After working from home and having a family I took my passion for beauty to the next level and started working in
the South West College Lecturing Beauty and Holistic Therapies. In my spare time I attended courses with Ali Gordon, Paddy McGurgan and LA Academy of Creative Arts. In 2014 I decided to really step out of my comfort zone and take part in the Irish Body Painting Championships in Dublin. I was lucky enough to come 2nd in this competition, which really boosted my confidence! With this newfound confidence came my alter ego “Canturin Cassie” which was a comedy makeup video that I uploaded to Youtube, which went viral with over 330,000 views. You can imagine my confidence now! My creative journey has continued from collaborating on photo shoots with RSVP starring Nathan Carter to appearing on Irish TV with Brian Gallagher. Working on set at BAFW 2016 (Belfast Alternative Fashion Week) has also helped me accumulate a diverse set of skills that I am continuing to use in this ever, evolving beauty industry. Featured as Merlin The Wizard in Guy Ritchies new 6 Part Epic - "King Arthur The Legend of the Sword" From a young age I was acting. Even in Kindergarden I wanted always to play in each show and in primary and secondary school. I come from a Noble Polish family, but after huge repercussions of Austrian and Russian influence we lost all of what we had after my Earls grandparents from Ascomans roots which only left the whisper of family stories and legends of a 1500 year old family, or even older. My mother was a tailor, my father was an Army Tank Driver , after the army he was a lorry driver. In secondary school I joined the school theatre with huge influence from Gardzienice. Here I was a light man and technician always wanting to play, but it was only for chosen ones. Eventually I played from time to time in place of other actors. We won many awards around Poland and some international competitions, but I was still educating myself in the
direction of my hobby of Medicine - so I couldn't decide to be an actor or Doctor surgeon. I didn't pass my first time exams to Polish Film school ( which was my dream in that time ) but I got to Medical University in Łódź where I finally done a graduate as a Midwife - Surgeon Nurse. In the meantime of medicine in university I was additionally a student of Polish film school and performed in many musicals, theatre plays and student's movies, additionally working as a booker for acting agencies and as a Model. I always wanted to be better like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee / Sir James Bond - so I joined Stunt Academy as a circus actor doing human torch shows, fire shows and Car crush shows for money. I was studying at the same time for 4 different universities educating myself to be a better medic and actor. Finally I 55
overheated and went to Mongolia to perform with an international Circus crew from Israel for 2 months. There i lived with Israeli soldiers on a field catching wild horses, living in a tent for another 2 to 5 months. After years and nights with many performances, sleeping and working in art, cinema and artistic Bar Łódź Kaliska ( my additional jobs) I joined the circus in Poland. So being 22 years old I had a full rainbow of experience. Since then I have played in over 1000 shows entertaining people around the world, educating thousands of youths and kids in acting skills. In 2005 I won my first TV and cinema global advert as Fashion Prophet - Jesus of House Fashion Company " Freak your mind " Directed by the talented Suzzanne Gizynska. Then there were hundreds of castings where as a poor student I had to hitchhike 130 km each way to other cities for each casting order. Mixing theatre art, circus stage, runway and performing in movies or adverts I became a brand ambassador of Captain Morgan for 2 years. Then I went on to do more workshops and plays for kids, living and traveling with the circus tent for one more year, directing big events, parades, presenting on stage at huge events and acting in more adverts and movies. After all of that in 2013 I decided to come to London with my Fiancé . The first year was very difficult, I couldn't get any work as an actor or model or circus artist. So I got employed as a stylist in luxury retail. After one year in 2014 I got my first advert and then won a
56
casting for a big Heineken advert with Daniel Craig which helped me a lot in my career. We were chasing on speedboat’s on Croatian sea with the best crew ever. I won a few more adverts like the Global advert of AUDI A6 and Virgin Active as Titan of Mudrunners Festival. I have played in a few Videoclips of Foxes " Holding onto heaven " and Birdy ", Wild Horses " where i became a fisherman and lover of a mermaid who finally sacrificed himself for her eternal love ... and in a few more famous singer's Videoclips . Already I have made Over 50 adverts in that some where global ads. I played in few movies of which one was my dream come true in Guy Ritchie's new 6 part epic King Arthur Legend of the Sword where I became the Merlin - Wizard and Blacksmith. Then more movies and serials " Peaky Blinders where I could use my circus skills , TuT and to be Sathi 1st, the first Pharaoh of Egypt. Now I have done Absolutley Fabulous with Kate Moss and Joanna Lumley. Now I am working on some new titles trying my best luck :) Recently i checked my position of IMDb which i was on the far end with no 2mln and today i am 2515 ... Getting 2million positions up on Star meter.

The EQUAL Interview
Kamil Lemieszewski Q1. Hi Kamil it is a pleasure to have you featured in Equal Fashion Magazine and thank you for this interview. Congratulations on landing the role of Merlin the Wizard in Guy Ritchie's upcoming six part epic "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword". That is an amazing character to play and a fantastic team to work with. How did you get the role? A1. It was difficult casting ... and a lot of luck. I remember that I had a day off and one of my agents called me and asked if I'm free today, because there is a " some " casting for a movie and a director wants to see me and could I be at the place in 20 minutes ... so what to do ?? I run over there sweaty and tired from the run :) I was cast for another Warlock from the story ... I throw the spells talking in Arabic ( it sounds more like black magic ) . Also I was a lucky that I had a part of my production from The Witcher movie - where I was a Wizard and Warrior. I think it was convincing to the director ... then recall ... and 5 months no answer. But after waiting and sending emails to director and casting director ... Finally On my Birthday, when we came back from a Surprise travel to Cambridge with my Ex fiancée I get a Phone call from my new acting agent that time that I got the part in the movie as MERLIN THE WIZARD - I was so happy that moment ... one of the best birthday gift :D Q2. As a young child King Arthur was the first story i ever read that had a wizard in it. I was completely fascinated immediately by this character. In Ireland we have been brought up with many stories of myth and legends, magic and enchantment, reality and 58
fiction. I cannot contain my excitement as i have also always liked Guy Ritchie's movies a lot. When will we see Merlin make an appearance in the six part epic? A2. This I can't tell you it's a secret, but it will be magical and mystical. Q3. It is clear you have a passion for acting. What inspired you to become an actor? A3. Seriously I don't know exactly. But from time of early Childhood I loved that. Even when i went with family to Churches, Orthodox Church or Synagogue I loved the performance of priests. As a member of the audience in the temple though I was bored and falling asleep very easy - so when I was 5 I have Decided to became a Choir boy in Jesuit Church next to our neighbourhood. Normally you became this when you are 8 years old after Holy Communion, so I became the youngest one. And I got a monk who was preparing me to become a monk too ... but that’s another story :) Q4. London is a melting pot of diversity and creativity. Is this why you came to work in London as an actor? Tell us a little about how and why you came to work in London. A4. I have started from the street of Medieval Edinburgh as Pantomime street artist and Juggler, after day performances working as a glass collector and Nurse assistant in Nursing home for long time -when I was a student of medicine. Then Long time with my circus group - ETERNITY GROUP - FASHION & CIRCUS as actor, model, circus performer, director ... then came

here to London ... starting again from the street and working behind the bar at Clapham Common and Stylist in Paul Smith ... and finally Heineken advert and Merlin Part --- then more commercials and movies ... hundreds of castings. Q5. Big screen names like Jude Law , Eric Bana & Charlie Hunnam of Sons of Anarchy are in the movie. Charlie plays King Arthur and you are Merlin his mentor i believe. Guy Ritchie has a great way of putting his own spin on things so my curiosity is running wild. Can you give us enthusiasts any clues as to what Merlin will look like and how his character is portrayed. A5. Its a secret ... lets wait – then the hole mystery will be revealed! Boom Shaqualaqua et Abracadabra! Crazy y Magya! Q6.You have a fantastic beard which can often make us men look older than what we actually are. Where are you from and what age are you and do you do anything else other than acting? A6. Thank you for asking :) I’m from magical City of One of the oldest Countries of the world. Its 4,500 years old Kingdom called LEHIA or Poland or in Arabic Lechistan ( Land of God ). I’m from Boat City ( Łódź ( Woodge ) ). So I'm kind of sailor and gypsy. I’m acting since I was 4, but professionally since 15 years, now I'm 33. I have done many proficiency - NURSE, Surgeon assistant, bartender , tailor , stylist , carpenter , builder , circus performer, Stunt man , teacher of circus , bar owner , Animator of culture , Announcer , presenter , farmer , sales assistant , director, choreographer , fashion model , human torch, fire dancer , fire eater , electrician, light assistant, runner , plumber , grave digger etc. But all of them are great rehearsal for acting. Life is an acting academy. Q7. I have watched some of your short movies and many adverts on youtube and it's a very good portfolio of professional work. The leap to being in a huge production with director Guy Ritchie's King Arthur is an amazing opportunity. How has this experience been for you so far. A7. It was amazing experience - in that time it was my first big movie set. Since then I was at Steven Speilberg movie " READY 60
PLAYER ONE, or on TRANSFORMERS 5 when I met another MERLIN actor - it was very funny story. And now I enjoying of new roles in new movies, also I have started making movies together with great artists like FRENCH TIBETAN actress and top model DAWA MA or amazing actor and camera man Sean Cronin or Swedish actor Daniel Stisen and more... its an amazing adventure where I can meet fantastic people. Q8. I have noticed on social media that the release date has changed a few times. Can you tell us when the movie will be released in cinemas as i would love to buy my ticket in advance. A8. Hmmm. Please follow my instagram KAMIL_LEMIE official and there you will get all news ;) Acting job is learning patience ... Sometimes on effect of work by few months, you have to wait few years... Q9. Who is your top three favourite male actors & top three favourite female actresses? A9. Sean Connery, Charlie Chaplin, Bruce Lee. Vivien Leigh, Mila Jovovich, Alicja Bachleda Q10. I read on your facebook page you work at Eternity World Film Productions Limited. Can you tell us a little about that and any other of your own projects you do. A10. This is my new project where I'm connecting amazing movie and fashion crew artists to create our dreams on screens. Q11. You are also being promoted at times by a budding Northern Ireland agency called ACE The Alternative Commercial Equal Agency. How did you find out about them and why did you choose to be promoted by them. A11. It's a fabulous collaboration. Thank you very much for the interview again Kamil , myself and the team at Equal Fashion Magazine all wish you the very best of Irish Luck for your future. We look forward to watching you on the Big Screen at the cinema. Victoria Gugenheim Award Winning Body painter Victoria Gugenheim is an Award Winning Body painter with an intense love of fashion and science; here, she's merged her beautiful body art and props with the human condition to provide insight into our own hidden desires and impulses. All of her work is hand painted, oftentimes with her work containing Trompe L'oeil elements; the epaulettes here for example are completely fabricated on the day using gemstones, gold leaf, appliques and golden chains. This distinctive style is what sets her apart from the rest. Victoria's body painting has even made it into Holywood Blockbuster Movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy, she even had a cameo role in it herself! VERY COOL!
In Victoria’s own words "Inspired by our natural pattern recognition systems and how they can work or fail us, especially in the absence of light; this piece is a testament to what we do in the dark, both voluntarily and involuntarily. The body art is inspired by klecksography- the art of making pictures from inkblots, notably the patterns one would see in the Rorschach inkblot test, with the colours being inspired by the demonic roles in Noh theatre; largely, the jealous female demons (Hannyah). The horns were resin speed sculpted and topped with gold leaf, with the entirety of the hair encased in it respectively. Her neck is encased in gold rose petals which were chosen for their meanings of luxury, triumph and infidelity. The nails were created by me, and the epaulettes are Trompe L'oeil, created with appliques, ruby red gems, gold leaf and golden chains. Her vulva vas also gilded to suggest sexuality and sexual greed; both qualities tend to come out at night".

Originally born and raised in South Africa, tattoo artist and painter Jay Freestyle grew up in a conservative Chinese family during difficult times for his beloved home country. The absence of a real creative scene in Johannesburg forced him to immigrate more than 10 years ago and he has been living and working in Amsterdam ever since. His artistic nature deeply inspired him to stray away from the traditional expectations of his family and rather develop his lifelong passion for body art. Being self-taught, his techniques and style are always unconventional. All of his work is created on the spot and literally free-styled during the session. The spontaneity of his tattoos is the secret of what makes every single piece so unique. Breaking away from existing boundaries, the final artwork is always a great surprise to the collector. “Most describe my style as water-color, and it definitely holds elements of such, but personally it is more. I prefer to combine various styles and techniques, such as geometrical shapes and pointillism, while at the same time mixing realism with abstraction, but at the end it all depends on the collector getting the piece.” Jay’s love for travel makes him a regular visitor in all parts of the world, gaining fame for him through major tattoo convention as well as guest spotting in leading tattoo studios. Coupled with strong work ethics and ambition, he has become a multi-award winning tattoo artist with a waiting list of up to a year. Always eager to continue growing and evolve his trademark style, Jay’s main focus is set on large-scale tattoos. His vision is to create more than just a tattoo, “I want my art to be memorable to those who see my pieces and empowering to those who wear my pieces. I’m not looking to tattoo the masses, rather the select few who share the same vision as me and who are willing to give up their bodies to immortalize a piece of art on them.” 64

“I wanted to bring people from all walks of life and trends together, to be diversely inclusive” The successful inauguration of EQUAL EVENTS first event “BELFAST ALTERNATIVE FASHION WEEK” (aka BAFW) in Nov/Dec of 2016 has brought a new wave of fashion that some people are calling "Alternative Chic" hurtling to the forefront of its industry. Exploding into our lives suddenly with impressive and resounding style, bringing highly artistic and fine arts designers, hair & make up artists with unique models this jaw dropping, breath taking and inspirational show has carved a bright new future out for itself and all of those involved. BAFW is the brainchild and vision of Northern Ireland photographer Shelley Rodgers who is also the founder of Equal Magazine & online promotional service ACE The Alternative Commercial Equal Agency. Shelley says "I wanted to bring the pages of Equal Fashion Magazine to Life in the form of a live alternative fashion show with live music and various other arts included, also to bring the most artistic and creative designers, make up artists and professional photographers together on a platform where they can celebrate and showcase their incredible hard work and talent that in many cases has gone largely unseen in years before". Shelley also says "I wanted to bring people from all walks of life and trends together, to be diversely inclusive so i invited international models and designers from Dublin, London, Germany and Scotland to show their talent alongside the very best of the local talent we have to offer in Belfast. I am very proud to say the connections i have brought together have now got some of our Northern Ireland Designers and Jewellery makers exporting and selling their work around the world, one local Designer Emma Gilles of Crafty Belfast is selling in shops such as "Music Meets Fashion" in Camden Town London already so we have simulated growth in business there. 68
Alternative Chic...
"I wanted to bring the pages of Equal Fashion Magazine to Life in the form of a live alternative fashion show with live music and various other arts included” Through BAFW we have connected a lot of like-minded people together which have in turn created partnerships in business on a more local level. This was one of my main goals, to provide an environment to stimulate growth in the alternative business scene. I and my colleagues wish all the new businesses and people who have connected through the BAFW project the very best for the future”. Shelley praises the support of sponsor and highly respected head of Make Up for BAFW Mrs Julia Clements who has been integral part of the concept from the beginning, Co Founder partner Ciarán Mac Searraigh who was the musical director and Emma Gilles of Crafty Belfast. Special thanks also goes out to Dublin born Mr Gordon Flynn aka "The Godfather of London & Dublin Fashion" who made his first 70

Gordon flew over from London to support BAFW, showcase his Gothic Designs and model too. Inspired at the depth and effort gone into this first time event Gordon was so impressed he offered his services to be Creative Director for the three events "Fairytale & Gore" held in The Great Elmwood Hall, Body Art n Ink held in the Europa Hotel and the Grand Finale Audio & Visual held in The Whitla Hall, all iconic buildings in Belfast. Gordon said to Shelley “I have been following the growth of BAFW online in London since it's birth and it has been a beautiful journey to see it blossom into such an amazing event, many have tried to do this in London and have failed, we are all very impressed and proud to be a part of this new wave in fashion, it is intoxicating, everyone was so welcoming and nice to me as well i could not have asked for more” Gordon tells us that after years of working in the world fashion circuit industry from New York Fashion Week to Paris, LA, Milan, Tokyo, London and many more BAFW has inspired him so much he has even decided to move back to Dublin to focus on the incredible talent Ireland and it’s designers have to offer !

Robert King SFX I hadn't done any makeup before until started a course called special effects and theatrical makeup in Lisburn SERC a couple of years ago. Although the course didn't live up to expectations, it gave me the materials I needed to practise on my own. I started watching YouTube tutorials and taking it from there. The opportunities were good with the course as I got to work on Sister act aswel as West Side Story in the Grand Opera House. I was then asked to be the makeup artist on Eternal Love Theatre Production at the Lyric Theatre. Being the only makeup artist it was a challenge but I loved it. Since then I haven't looked back. I left working in retail and this is what I do now, from working in kids entertainment as a face painter and character dress up to working freelance doing makeup for short films, theatre and personal applications. I love how creative you can be with makeup, completely changing ones features. My favourite experience is probably my most recent work on the Wizard of Oz. They guys were all amazing and I love the story. My favourite genre is horror so I love creating wounds, cuts, and all things gore. It was a fantastic experience to get asked to showcase my work in Belfast ALternative Fashion Week 2016.

My journey….
Ever since I can remember I have always been creative. From drawing, crafts, art projects at school to locking the door and trying on my mums make-up and saris before she got home from work, I would spend those precious moments practicing and day dreaming. It was a trip to India when I was 16 years old, attending 80
the wedding of a close relative that I fell in love with the art of henna. The local artist was decorating the bride, henna art - the best that I’d ever seen at the time. As the henna paste effortlessly fell on the bride’s hand, the artist’s hand holding the cone dancing on the palm and seeing the effortless skill and concentration of the artist, something deep inside me was moved. A desire to learn, a secret wish to practice henna art. Somewhere in my subconscious the emotions it stirred at the time stayed with me. It wasn’t until years later when I was completing my 4 year Business Degree that in one of my lectures I started to draw on my hand. The simple doodle grew and grew until it became a decent looking henna design. Looking at my piece of art and receiving some very positive reactions from my girlfriends I found that emotion and desire to practice henna arise to the surface, and has remained a core part of my being ever since. I was hooked. Later that year in 1999 I spent a year in Canada working and travelling internationally, and it was this time away from my family and friends that I began my journey of practicing and perfecting this beautiful traditional art. Providing this beautiful service for Asian brides has been a highlight of my artistic career , I have held henna workshops in Canada, England, Sri Lanka and Ireland.

The Saatchi Art choice as a “one to watch” Lee Boyd’s art background is as varied as the art work he producestoday. Having graduated from the University of Ulster in 1993 specialising in Ceramics Lee is also qualified as a stone mason , been a jewellery designer for an exclusive jewellery store in England , has taught fine art, ceramics and sculpture up to degree level and continued to practice his own art work. Lee's recent works called Manimal are a blend of animal and human forms which have had much critical acclaim. Recently being selected by Saatchi Art as a “one to watch” Alongside his portraiture, oil paintings, sculpture, drawings Lee has continued to support the local arts scene supporting and curating shows with other artists and the Art collective” Firsty?” The Manimal collection of works combines many different aspects of the genre of blending human and animal form. In many cultures religions and modern cultural references the amalgamation of nature into our (human) experience occurs and for many different reasons. Lee tells us " I was interested in how we animalise humans in society and in respect 96

“I feel that we as a species are no more different and are in fact just an 'intelligent' animal” humanise animals. I feel that we as a species are no more different and are in fact just an 'intelligent' animal. We have a natural affinity with nature that our progressive nature has 'developed' us away from our basic needs to more aspirational living. What we need is far more basic from that of what we want. Those differences are often directed by our environment which brings into context the idea of nature and nurture. For every work to have this as its main focus of creation would be misleading though , each work has a nuance of it, but I create a more personal response to an individual works concept. LARRY CORYELL
The Godfather of Fusion Guitar By Ciarán Mac Searraigh (Kieran Sherry)
In this tribute to the late great grandmaster, jazz & fusion extraordinaire Larry Coryell we pay homage. Larry was a gentle giant in the music world, a supernova of knowledge and skill who inspired the hearts and minds of those he performed in front of time and time again.
many styles of music not just jazz to eventually pioneer the style of fusion playing in the 1960’s up to the present day. Merging many musical cultures of the world onto his fret board Larry paved the way for our contemporaries in fusion style playing and jazz.
When we see performances so unique and outstanding, like Larry’s famous version of the “Bolero” on acoustic guitar, it is a true moment of intense inspiration that grabs your attention in a way like no other and remains as a driving force in our lives forever, like a point of reference you can turn to if you need a boost in your spirits to excell in your musical journey. Very much like the way Jimi Hendrix affected so many in his time and still does to those hearing him for the first time today. Larry Coryell has had the same effect too and likely will continue to do so.
Without sounding corny if it is possible, but try and imagine witnessing a huge shooting star blaze through the night sky for the first time ever in your life, you would be amazed, shocked, excited, totally blown away and you would always be talking about it. Your imagination would travel and unravel trying to figure it all out leaving you thinking what the hell did I just see, it was beautiful, but I can’t explain it, WOW! That is what Larry Coryell could do to you by simply strumming his fusion style on a guitar. Some people just dedicate themselves to their love of music so much that they leap years ahead of everyone else, boggling and inspiring you simultaneously along the way. Thank you for the music Larry, you inspired the world, now you can inspire the universe. Larry Coryell died peacefully on February 19th 2017 at 73 years young. May he rest in peace.
In musical circles it has often been said Larry Coryell was and still is thee greatest guitarist in the world. Some of us may never have heard of him, this could be your first time, for others it is common knowledge. Larry Coryell excelled in Jazz to a level beyond the rest, transcending the boundaries of 100

Last year I had my first exhibitions for my project “Women in Music” which was showcased in the Women’s Work Festival in the Oh Yeah Music Centre and Féile an Phobail. With the cool courtesy, silent stealth and professionalism he takes with his camera we often tend to forget Conor is in the room, his polite and courteous manner creates comfort for all those around him allowing freedom of movement to blossom for his photography which in turn stimulates and re assures a natural environment for his subject to relax themselves, adding this to his skill with the camera means he is Conor Kerr gets results everywhere! In his own words Conor tells Equal enthusiastically. " I first got into photography through the local music scene, working with the likes of Gigging NI and Chord blossom. I’ve always had a passion for music so that’s where my focus has been and has been a lot of fun. I’ve got to see some amazing acts, both local and international, the most recent of which has included Biffy Clyro and Steve Harris (Iron Maiden). Ella Eyre by Conor Kerr
In the last year I’ve also been involved in fashion photography, working with friend and local models. Recently I was involved with Belfast Alternative Fashion Week, which was a great experience. Although these are totally different scenes, what it comes down to is photographing people. It’s so exciting to capture fleeting moments that are then gone forever. I’m inspired by the work of Anton Corbijn and Annie Leibovitz. Even though they are very different artists, their styles are just so evocative and dramatic. Last year I had my first exhibitions for my project “Women in Music” which was showcased in the Women’s Work Festival in the Oh Yeah Music Centre and Féile an Phobail. I hope to exhibit more work this year and I’m looking forward to getting inspired and creative with a few new projects I have in mind".
