Welcome Dear friends and colleagues, It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the beautiful city of Vienna for the WorldDAB Summit 2026. I am delighted we are able to bring our flagship event to Austria with its exciting digital radio landscape. Austria’s commercial broadcasters are helping drive DAB+ growth, with innovative new services giving listeners more choice. Alongside this, the public broadcaster ORF has launched a DAB+ pilot of Hitradio Ö3. Meanwhile the City of Vienna has completed a successful test of DAB+ Automatic Safety Alerts as part of the Austria-wide Civil Defence Day, and Digital Radio Austria is driving uptake with its Radio Roadmap 2035 and strong marketing campaigns. During the Summit, we’ll hear more about the challenges and successes in the local market from Corinna Drumm at the Association of Austrian Private Broadcasters (VÖP), and from Matthias Gerwinat, Managing Director of Digital Radio Austria. I want to place on record our sincere thanks for their support for our event. Once again it has been an honour for me to represent WorldDAB and its growing community of members at events around the world. From Saudi Arabia to Lithuania, and from Indonesia to North Macedonia and Croatia, I have been privileged to experience such genuine interest and enthusiasm for securing radio’s digital future. Successful trials, launches and rollouts in markets such as Ireland, Spain, Kenya, Thailand and beyond demonstrate continued growth, with around one-third of the world’s countries now actively involved with DAB+. In these uncertain times, maintaining free and easy access to DAB+ and broadcast radio is essential, and remains a cornerstone of WorldDAB’s work with partners from across the broadcast industry. Alongside this, the full launch of the Automatic Safety Alert system in Germany is a very significant milestone, and demonstrates how DAB+ will help save lives. We are excited that other locations including France, Czechia and South Tyrol are also exploring the benefits of DAB+ ASA, and I am keen to hear more about this from the expert speakers at this year’s Summit. Finally, let me thank all our sponsors for their continued support of our events, and the WorldDAB Project Office and Steering Board for their hard work throughout the year. Warm regards,
Jacqueline Bierhorst President, WorldDAB
