The authors also explain that future research should focus on institutional policies and practices and classroom strategies, to explore differences in the effects of remediation by remediation program design. 11. Among the additional characteristics, programs that report receiving students with large deficits in math content also report higher dropout rates than those that do not report this knowledge gap. Longer programs and those taught by public institutions also show higher dropout rates. Finally, having mostly female students is associated with higher dropout rates. 26.
