Whether it’s connecting a new service, making a repair or troubleshooting a problem, the Install and Repair crew at Ben Lomand Connect’s Sparta office handles it all for customers in the Sparta and Spencer areas.
“We’re really considered combination technicians because we do it all,” says Ben Clark, Assistant District Office Manager for the Sparta area. “We do whatever we need to make sure our customers’ needs are met. We’re here for them.”
The Install and Repair crew works with the engineering department when a new service order comes in, doing the preliminary site work and evaluations for installation. They also work with the engineering staff to make sure all information is complete before the construction crew begins. Once the lines are in, the Install and Repair crew makes the connections from the central office to the customer.
FACES IN THE COMMUNITY
The crew prioritizes the day’s assignments each morning, and technicians usually work independently for whatever service is needed that day. The technicians handle installation of phones, broadband, TV, video, security systems and the My Secure Care alert system. Each Install and Repair technician typically works the same area each day, making them more familiar with the people and places they serve.
“It also helps our customers be more familiar with the technician who is working at their home,” Clark says. “It’s most likely going to be the same familiar face.”
The Install and Repair technicians, who are based in the White and Van Buren County areas, live where they work and have been there most their lives. “You might see our guys at a youth sports game or at one of the schools on career day,” Clark says.
“An employee out in the field may be the only person a customer sees that day,” says Clark. “They are a lifeline, the face of our company and the face of our community.”
SERVING IN THE COMMUNITY
Service in the community is also a big part of Ben Lomand Connect’s mission.
All employees in Ben Lomand Connect’s Sparta office team up with Caney Fork Electric Cooperative each Wednesday to deliver Hot Meals on Wheels in White County. It takes about an hour or so out of the day, but it’s a service that’s important to the community and the employees. “We like being involved in the communities where we live and work,” Clark says. “It’s an important part of our mission at Ben Lomand Connect.”
