A

t the height of the regular oil price hikes in 2005, the Department of Energy (DoE) came up with the idea of banning motor sports once again, akin to what the government did in 1979 after the second oil embargo by Middle East countries. When reports of the possible ban came out in newspapers, the entire motor sports community suddenly sprang with one voice to protest the idea.

The AAP Motor Sports Committee immediately came up with a position paper explaining to DoE why it should not ban motor sports. Organizers of circuit races in Subic and Batangas as well as rallycross, karting, slalom,
